Carleton is a hamlet on the A6 road, in the Carlisle district, in the county of Cumbria, England. In the Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-1872 it had a population of 181.The buildings along the A6 between Junction 42 of the M6 to Barrock Fell including Scalesceugh Hall are all addressed as being part of Carleton. Garlands Hospital (formerly Cumberland and Westmorland Lunatic Asylum) was based in the village until it closed in 1999.

Brisco railway station (NY4313251259) in St Cuthbert Without parish, was situated on the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway (the West Coast Main Line) between Carlisle and Penrith. It served the rural district of Brisco and Newbiggin Hall, Cumbria, England. The station opened on 17 December 1846, and closed in December 1852.

St Cuthbert Without, or simply St Cuthbert, is a civil parish within the Cumberland unitary authority area in Cumbria, England. The parish lies immediately to the south of Carlisle itself and comprises the following settlements - Blackwell, Durdar, Carleton, Brisco and Wreay (the first three are usually regarded as outlying parts of Carlisle, although were not part of the former county borough of Carlisle). According to the 2001 census it had a population of 2,043. The civil parish was formed in 1866 and has seen various boundary changes during its existence, mostly due to the expansion of Carlisle, although the former separate parish of Wreay was absorbed in 1934.The parish is named after St Cuthbert's Church in Carlisle city centre. The "Without" part of the name means this was the part of the ecclesiastical parish of St Cuthbert's that was outside the city boundary or walls. The original civil parish of Carlisle St Cuthbert was split in 1866 to form St Cuthbert Without and St Cuthbert Within - the latter of which became part of a merged Carlisle civil parish in 1904. St Mary's Church (Wreay), built in 1842, is notable for its architecture. At one time the parish included the modern Carlisle suburbs and districts of Botchergate, St Nicholas, Currock, Upperby and Harraby. The M6, A6 and West Coast main railway line all run through the parish. The A6 meets the M6 at junction 42 (the Golden Fleece Roundabout) in Carleton. At different times there have been railway stations at Wreay and Brisco. The main river in the parish is the River Petteril.

Cumwhinton is a small village in Cumbria, England. It is around one mile away from both Scotby and Wetheral, and four miles from Carlisle. The village lies in Wetheral civil parish.

Brunton Park is a football stadium and the home of Carlisle United. It is situated in the city of Carlisle and has a certified capacity of 17,949. The ground opened in 1909. Brunton Park's grandstand burned down in 1953 and the stadium flooded completely in 2005 and again in 2015. Brunton Park is split into four separate stands; Warwick Road End, East Stand, Main (West) Stand and the Petteril End, which remains closed unless exceptionally large crowds are in attendance. Brunton Park is the largest football stadium in England which is not all-seated. In 2011, Carlisle United announced plans to move away from Brunton Park to a 12,000 capacity all-seater stadium. Before the 2012–13 season Cumbria County Council inspected Brunton Park and they deemed that certain areas of the stadium were unsafe. As a result, they reduced the capacity to 17,001 for the forthcoming season.

Carlisle London Road railway station was the first to open in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. It was built as a terminus of the Newcastle and Carlisle Railway and opened in 1836, when trains could only run as far as Greenhead; not until 1838 was it possible to travel by rail all the way to Gateshead. When the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway (L&C) reached Carlisle in 1846 it used London Road station for nine months as a temporary expedient before the opening of Carlisle Citadel railway station. The Maryport and Carlisle Railway (M&C) ran some trains to London Road as well as its own Carlisle station at Crown Street. In 1849, the L&C enforced an agreement the M&C had undertaken to sell Crown Street to allow full development of Citadel; the L&C then rapidly demolished Crown Street, and the M&C used London Road as its Carlisle terminus until 1851, after which its trains ran to Citadel.The Newcastle and Carlisle was amalgamated with the North Eastern Railway (NER) in 1862; the following year, passenger services to London Road ceased, the Newcastle service now running to Citadel. London Road continued to operate as a goods station for the NER.It was situated just off London Road, and trains of the Settle-Carlisle Line and the Tyne Valley Line still pass immediately to the south of the site of the former station.
