The Midwest Central Railroad is a 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge heritage railroad operating within the confines of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa's McMillan Park, site of the Midwest Old Thresher's Reunion. The railroad is a registered, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The mainline track is a 1 mile (1.6 kilometer) loop with traffic moving in a clockwise direction regulated by an electrically signaled block system. The mainline loop features 2 stations: at the north end, the original Hillsboro, Iowa, depot along with a Milwaukee Road signal tower; and at the south end, a newer wood frame/metal sided building.

The Midwest Electric Railway (initialized MERA, reporting mark MERA) is a non-profit trolley operation located on the grounds of the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, United States. It is home to 10 pieces of trolley history that are regularly operated on a 2.5 mile loop surrounding the organization's campgrounds.

The Midwest Old Threshers Reunion is an annual event that takes place in the small town of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, United States, and runs for five days, ending on the Labor Day weekend. It was first held in 1950, and has taken place every year except 2020, when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When it first started, it focused on steam engines and antique agricultural equipment, but has developed into an entertainment event with a wider remit. The tiny town of less than 10,000 inhabitants receives thousands of visitors from around the world.Old Threshers Reunion, as an event, attracts visitors from around the world, attracted by both the permanent exhibits on the reunion grounds and by the collections of antique and steam powered equipment brought to the show by other visitors.

Mount Pleasant Community High School is a public high school (grades 9–12) located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. MPCHS is one of two high schools in the Mount Pleasant Community School District. Annual enrollments are generally between 600 and 700 students for all four grade levels. The school offers regular and enriched academic education which includes advanced placement classes, special education classes, vocational education, and specialized instruction for at-risk students as well as those with limited English-speaking capabilities.

The Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility (MPCF) is an Iowa Department of Corrections correctional institution located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, United States. As of 30 July 2010, the institution has 891 inmates and another 44 in segregation in a 775-inmate facility, and 100 additional female inmates in a separate unit. The facility has about 340 staff members. The MPCF primarily houses inmates with treatable personality disorders and substance abuse problems. The facility specializes in treating sex offenders and those having substance abuse problems. The facility also works to help inmates transition to life on the outside. The correctional facility is located on the same campus as the Mount Pleasant Mental Health Institute.

KILJ-FM (105.5 FM) is a commercial radio station that serves the Mount Pleasant, Iowa area. The station broadcasts an easy listening format. KILJ-FM is licensed to KILJ Inc which is owned by Paul and Joyce Dennison. They also own sister station KILJ 1130 AM. In addition to the music, the station provides national, state and local news, along with high school and college sports, weather, and grain and livestock markets. According to the company website, the station was started by Frosty Mitchell and former Iowa governor Robert D. Ray in 1970. Paul and Joyce Dennison purchased the station in 1977. The sports department is headed by the award-winning Nathan Bloechl. Bloechl provides play-by-play for several southeast Iowa prep programs, is the voice of Iowa Wesleyan athletics and is the host of Beyond the Game. Theresa Rose leads the news department. The two of them co-host a daily morning talk show. The transmitter and broadcast tower are located southwest of Mount Pleasant on Oakland Mills Road. According to the Antenna Structure Registration database, the tower is 104.5 m (343 ft) tall with the FM broadcast antenna mounted at the 99 m (325 ft) level. The calculated Height Above Average Terrain is 103 m (338 ft).

The Henry County Courthouse is located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, United States, the county seat of Henry County. It was built in 1914, and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

The Louisa Building is a historic building located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, United States. Completed in 1901, this two story, brick structure features a transitional design between the Italianate, that had been popular here, and the Neoclassical that would replace it in popularity. It has a triple storefront with three sets of three windows on the second floor. In place of hood molds, which were typical of the Italianate, each window has a heavy rusticated stone lintel. The metal cornice across the top of the facade is simpler in its decorative elements than earlier Italianate cornices. This building replaced the Ambler Block, which had been destroyed in an 1882 fire. The lot had remained empty in the intervening years. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Union Block of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, was built by William McCandless in 1861. Historically it was used as offices and by the county courts. In the Union Block in 1869, Arabella A. Mansfield became the first woman in the United States awarded a license to practice law. The third floor housed the Opera House or Union Hall, a gathering place for the community. Early supporters of women's rights and civil rights spoke there, including Frederick Douglass, Bronson Alcott, Anna Dickinson, and possibly Elizabeth Cady Stanton.Preservation Iowa had listed Union Block on its most endangered buildings list because of its poor condition and lack of preservation plan. The building was badly damaged by an early morning fire on Jan. 25, 2011.

The Timmerman–Burd Building is a historic building located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, United States. The previous building on this lot was destroyed in a fire in 1883 and Henry Timmerman had this building constructed to replace it the same year. The two story brick structure is one of several building facing the town square in the Italianate style. This building features a single storefront, and four segmental arch windows on the second floor with simple brick patterned hood molds. The bracketed metal cornice at the top of the main facade was mass-produced and likely ordered from a catalog. Burd worked for Timmerman and took over the business. This building housed a shoe store as late as the 1990s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

The Zuhn Building is a historic building located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, United States. Completed in 1886 a block east of the town square, this three story, brick, Italianate structure replaced a single story building that had housed the Mount Pleasant Carriage Works. H.A. Zuhn had that building torn down and this one built so he could expand his business. He used this facility to manufacture and repair vehicles. The only decorative element of the building is the bracketed metal cornice with date and pediment caps across the top of the facade. The double storefront has been altered somewhat over the years. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

Henry County Savings Bank is a historic building located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, United States. Because this two story, brick Italianate structure was built specifically as a bank, it features a chamfered corner, which was commonly used to designate a bank in the last quarter of the 19th century. Other features typical of an Italianate commercial building include segmental arched windows, a corbeled brick frieze, and a bracketed metal cornice. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
