Clare Priory

Clare Castle is a high-mounted ruinous medieval castle in the parish and former manor of Clare in Suffolk, England, anciently the caput of a feudal barony. It was built shortly after the Norman Conquest of England in 1066 by Richard Fitz Gilbert, having high motte and bailey and later improved in stone. In the 14th century it was the seat of Elizabeth de Clare, one of the wealthiest women in England, who maintained a substantial household there. The castle passed into the hands of the Crown and by 1600 was disused. The ruins are an unusually tall earthen motte surmounted by tall remnants of a wall and of the round tower, with large grassland or near-rubble gaps on several of their sides. It was damaged by an alternate line of the Great Eastern Railway in 1867, the rails of which have been removed. The remains are a scheduled monument and a Grade II* listed building. They form the centrepiece of a public park.

Clare Castle Country Park in Suffolk, England, was created around the ruins of Clare Castle and incorporates the now defunct Clare railway station on the Colchester to Cambridge branch of the Great Eastern Railway. There are several walks through the park and along the River Stour, as well as a nature trail, and the park lies on the Stour Valley Path and forms the end of the Bury to Clare walk. There is also a visitors centre in the former station with pictures of the site in former years.

Clare railway station was a station that served the village of Clare in Suffolk, England. It opened in 1865 on the Stour Valley Railway between Sudbury and Cambridge. The station and line closed in 1967 as part of the Beeching cuts.The platforms, station building, waiting room and a goods shed are within the Clare Castle Country Park.

St Peter and St Paul's Church, Clare is a Grade I listed parish church in the Church of England in Clare, Suffolk. It is one of the largest and most beautiful in East Anglia, described as a "large and handsome church... within a spacious churchyard", and is included by Simon Jenkins in his 2009 book England's Thousand Best Churches, where he awards it three stars.

Clare is a market town on the north bank of the River Stour in Suffolk, England. Clare is in southwest Suffolk, 14 miles (23 km) from Bury St Edmunds and 9 miles (14 km) from Sudbury. Clare won Village of the Year in 2010 and Anglia in Bloom award for Best Large Village 2011 for its floral displays in 2011. In March 2015, The Sunday Times and Zoopla placed Clare amongst the top 50 UK rural locations, having "period properties and rich history without the chocolate-box perfection – and the coach trips". Clare and its vicinity has evidence of human habitation throughout prehistory, through the Norman Conquest, to the present day. The town hosts Stour Valley Community School, one of the first free schools established by the government, opened in September 2011.

Stour Valley Community School is a coeducational free school for pupils aged 11 to 16 in Clare in the English county of Suffolk. It opened in September 2011 as one of the first 24 free schools in England. It opened with around 170 pupils and a total staff of 29, including non-teaching support staff. The headteacher is Rachel Kelly.The school opened on the site of the former Clare Middle School which had around 300 pupils in four year groups. A building programme estimated to cost around £4.8 million and take around a year to complete and carried out by Balfour Beatty. The middle school closed in August 2011 as part of Suffolk County Council's reorganisation of schools into a two-tier system.At the beginning of the autumn term (starting in September) of 2016, the school had 573 pupils.

Ovington is a small village in north Essex, England. The village is situated about three miles (5 km) from the village of Clare. It consists of St. Mary's Church, and a few houses. There is the air traffic of Ridgewell Airfield. (Usually gliders and sometimes military training exercises.) The population of the village is included in the civil parish of Tilbury Juxta Clare. The earliest mention of this place is in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it is mentioned together with Hedingham Castle and listed amongst the lands given to Roger Bigod by the King. The land given to Roger included 24 acres (97,000 m2) of meadow that was (in total) valued at four pounds.

Poslingford is a village and civil parish in the West Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England, near to a stream that feeds the into the Chilton stream and then the Suffolk Stour. The main part of the village follows the line of The Street (the main road through to the village of Stansfield), rising approximately 40 metres in height above sea level from south to north.

Risbridge is a hundred of Suffolk, consisting of 58,468 acres (236.61 km2).Risbridge Hundred forms the south western corner of Suffolk extending 15 miles (24 km) from north to south and between 4 and 9 miles (14 km) in breadth. It is bounded on the west by Cambridgeshire on the south by Essex, on the east by Babergh and Thingoe Hundreds and on the north by Lackford Hundred. It is in the Franchise or Liberty of St Edmund, in the Archdeaconry of Sudbury, Deanery of Clare and Diocese of Ely. The southern boundary with Essex is formed by the River Stour and the hundred is crossed by a number of streams. It is generally a fertile agricultural area with predominantly clay soil. The major towns in the hundred are Clare and Haverhill. Listed as Risebruge in the Domesday Book, the meaning of the name is not fully understood but probably "Hrisa's bridge" or a similar personal name. The bridge in question would almost certainly have crossed the Stour, an important crossing at a time when bridges were rare. However similar place-names (ex: Ricebridge near Leigh in Surrey, Risbro in Sweden) are believed to have been bridges with a causeway over marshy land made from brushwood (ris) held by wooden pegs.

Knowl Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Belchamp St Paul and the Braintree district of Essex, England. The hamlet is approximately 6 miles (10 km) west from the town of Sudbury, Suffolk and 23 miles (37 km) north-northeast from the county town and city of Chelmsford. It is where Gage's Road from Belchamp St Paul village at the north-east, and Belchamps Road from Tilbury Juxta Clare at the south-west, meet at the junction of Pollard's Green Lane which leads north to Ovington. Knowl Green comprises houses, cottages, two farms with associated buildings, and the Cherry Tree public house. The Cherry Tree was recorded as such in 1933. An arm of Belchamp Brook, a tributary of the River Stour, rises at the north of Knowl Green and flows by the hamlet.There are seven Grade II listed buildings in Knowl Green. Hole Farmhouse is an early 19th-century timber-framed house at the north of the junction, with, 44 yards (40 m) to the south, an associated timber-framed and weatherboarded late 19th-century cartshed. Woodbarn's Farmhouse, at the south of the junction, is a timber-framed and plastered house dating to the 15th century. At the west of the hamlet on Belchamp Road are two conjoined two-storey 18th-century cottages, timber-framed, with brick corners and flint infill. At the east of the hamlet at the north side of Gage's Road is a 17th-century timber-framed thatch-roofed cottage. Opposite, and set back at the south of the road is a further 17th-century timber-framed thatch-roofed cottage. Near this cottage, and on Gage's Road, is The Cherry Tree Inn, timber-framed and plastered, and with gable dormers, dating to the late 17th century, with a 20th-century extension.
