Hooton Pagnell Hall

Hooton Pagnell is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England, on the border with West Yorkshire. It lies on the B6422 road, between Brodsworth and South Elmsall and is at an elevation of around 78 metres (256 ft) above sea level. It had a population of 211 at the 2001 Census, reducing slightly to 201 at the 2011 Census. The name of the village derives from Ralph de Paganel (sometimes spelled Paynell), a Norman who was a tenant-in-chief in Yorkshire named in the Domesday Book and an extensive landowner.

St Chad's Hostel, in Hooton Pagnell near Doncaster, England, was a hostel to prepare candidates for theological college. It was opened in 1902 by Frederick Samuel Willoughby, vicar of Hooton Pagnell. In 1904 a sister institution, St Chad's Hall, was opened at the University of Durham. The hostel closed in 1916, when its buildings were requisitioned as a war hospital. All teaching moved to Durham, where the hostel's sister institution survives as St Chad's College, Durham.

Bilham Sand Pits (grid reference SE487066) is a 0.2 hectare (0.1 acre) geological site of Special Scientific Interest in South Yorkshire. The site was notified in 1987.

Moorhouse and South Elmsall Halt was a railway station situated on the Hull and Barnsley Railway's branch line from Wrangbrook to Wath-upon-Dearne. The station served the village of Moorhouse and the town of South Elmsall on the South Yorkshire / West Yorkshire boundary, although this was about a mile distance. The station is located between Hickleton and Thurnscoe and Wrangbrook Junction, where the Wath branch joined the main line. The single storey station building, on the Wath-bound platform was, unlike the others on the line, built of brick with a slate roof. The other platform had just a simple waiting room for the few passengers who used the station. The platform surfaces were gravel and stone edged. The station master's house, of a standard Hull and Barnsley style, was situated a road level by the underbridge. Opening day was on 28 August 1902 and the station closed, along with the others on the line, on 6 April 1929. To the north of the station a spur connecting this line to the West Riding and Grimsby Railway at Hampole diverged.

Hickleton is a village and civil parish in the City of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, it had a population of 291, which had reduced slightly to 274 at the 2011 census. Hickleton is 6 miles (10 km) west of Doncaster and 8 miles (13 km) east of Barnsley. There are records of Hickleton's history dating back to Saxon times although some consider the settlement to have Roman roots.More recently, it was the "estate village" of Hickleton Hall, formerly the home of the earls of Halifax and then a Sue Ryder Care Home until 2013. The parish church, St. Wilfrid's, is mainly of mediaeval construction with Norman features that was restored in Victorian times by George Frederick Bodley. Two locations in Hickleton appear in the top ten worst locations in England for air quality; the village has the most polluted air in Yorkshire. There have been numerous campaigns to construct a bypass around the village and Marr to the east.

Hickleton Hall is a Grade II* listed Georgian stately home in Hickleton, South Yorkshire, England, about 6 miles (10 km) west of Doncaster. For more than 50 years (until 2012) it was a Sue Ryder Care home. It was being converted to luxury apartments, and is now up for sale again. It was built in 1745–48 of limestone ashlar with graduated slate roofs. The main range has a seven-bay frontage with flanking pavilions.

South Elmsall ( EM-səl) is a town and civil parish in the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. South Elmsall lies to the east of Hemsworth. The town had a population in 2001 of 6,107, increasing to 6,519 at the 2011 Census.

Frickley is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England in the civil parish of Clayton with Frickley. It lies close to the border with West Yorkshire.

Frickley & South Elmsall Colliery was opened by the Carlton Main Colliery Company Ltd in 1903 in South Elmsall, in Yorkshire, England.

Brodsworth Hall, near Brodsworth, 5 miles (8 km) north-west of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, is one of the most complete surviving examples of a Victorian country house in England. It is virtually unchanged since the 1860s. It was designed in the Italianate style by the obscure London architect, Philip Wilkinson, then 26 years old. He was commissioned by Charles Sabine Augustus Thellusson, who inherited the estate in 1859, but the original estate was constructed in 1791 for merchant and slave owner Peter Thellusson. It is a Grade I listed building.

Brodsworth is a village and civil parish in the City of Doncaster district in South Yorkshire, England. Situated about five miles north-west of Doncaster city centre, the parish also includes Scawsby. According to the 2001 census, it had a population of 2,875, increasing to 2,936 at the 2011 Census.Historically, the parish of Brodsworth was much larger, but with the sinking of Brodsworth Colliery by the owners of Brodsworth Hall, the model village of Woodlands was built two miles away. On 1 April 1915, Woodlands was added to the parish of Adwick-le-Street since the colliery town had expanded to the stage where it joined Adwick. Brodsworth remained as a collection of farms and the estate village. The local church, St Michael's, is an 11th-century church sited close to the hall built by the Thellusson family, owners of Brodsworth Hall, and is one of the four churches within the parish of Bilham, which is in the Sheffield diocese.
