It was created by redistribution in 1968, and formally existed from the provincial election of 1969 until that of 2019. The riding was in the westernmost tip of Manitoba's capital and largest city, Winnipeg. Charleswood was bordered to the east by Tuxedo and Fort Whyte, to the north by Kirkfield Park, and to the south and west by the rural riding of Morris. Charleswood's population in 1996 was 20,262. The riding's character is middle- and upper-middle class: in 1999, the average family income was $70,417, and the unemployment rate was 5.20%. Eleven per cent of the riding's residents are immigrants, with over half being of German origin. The service sector accounts for 15% of Charleswood's industry, with a further 12% in the retail trade and 11% in health and social sciences. Members of the Progressive Conservative Party represented Charleswood throughout its lifetime. Sterling Lyon was premier of Manitoba from 1977 to 1981 while representing Charleswood.

Charleswood is a residential community and neighbourhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is located in the South-West of the city and is bordered by the neighbourhoods Tuxedo to the East, Fort Whyte to the South, and the Rural Municipality of Headingley on the West. It's boundaries are Roblin and the Assiniboine River to the north, Shaftesbury Boulevard on the East, Wilkes Avenue to the South and the Perimeter Highway to the West. The region was originally known for "the Passage," a ford across the Assiniboine River and was an important route for indigenous and Metis traders and settlers. In the 1869, the area was ceded by the Hudson's Bay Company to Canada and became a site for European settlement. Charleswood was incorporated as a Rural Municipality in 1913 and remained an independent municipality until it joined with the City of Winnipeg in 1972. Camp Manitou is a summer camp, year-round outdoor recreation facility, and non-profit charitable organization located in Headingley, Manitoba, Canada, just outside Winnipeg. It is operated by the True North Youth Foundation, a subsidiary of True North Sports & Entertainment.Camp Manitou was founded in 1930 by a group of six service clubs in Winnipeg: Rotary, Cosmopolitan, Kiwanis, Kinsmen, Optimist, and the YMCA, with the Lions Club joining in 1953. It was incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in 1949 with the mission to provide a camping experience for underprivileged/at-risk children and youth.
