Fountainbridge

Lochrin is a small area in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. It is in the south-west corner of the city centre, to the west of Tollcross, and south of Fountainbridge. Lochrin contains a wide mixture of retail shops, leisure facilities, other businesses and tenement housing. Major new office and residential developments have replaced some of the older buildings. When the basins at the eastern end of the Union Canal were filled in and the canal truncated in 1921, Lochrin Basin became the eastern terminus. At that time, the Leamington Lift Bridge was moved from where Fountainbridge crossed the canal to its current location just to the west of the basin. Lochrin Basin is the centrepiece of Edinburgh Quay, a mixed-use development providing office and residential accommodation and licensed premises, which was voted the Best Regeneration project in Scotland at the Scottish Design Awards 2005. It is also the eastern end of the Forth and Clyde Canal Pathway.

The Union Canal, full name the Edinburgh and Glasgow Union Canal, is a canal in Scotland, running from Falkirk to Edinburgh, constructed to bring minerals, especially coal, to the capital. It was opened in 1822 and was initially successful, but the construction of railways, particularly the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway, which opened in 1842, diminished its value as a transport medium. It fell into slow commercial decline and was closed to commercial traffic in 1933. It was officially closed in 1965. The canal is listed as three individual scheduled monuments by Historic Scotland according to the three former counties, Midlothian, West Lothian and Stirlingshire, through which it flows. It has benefited from a general revival of interest in canals and, as a result of the Millennium Link, was reopened in 2001 and reconnected to the Forth and Clyde Canal in 2002 by the Falkirk Wheel. It is now in popular use for leisure purposes.

Tollcross Primary School (Scottish Gaelic: Bunsgoil Crois na Cìse) is a mixed non-denominational primary school on Fountainbridge near Tollcross in Edinburgh, which offered the only Gaelic medium primary education in Edinburgh and the Lothians until this medium got its own facility called Bun-sgoil Taobh na Pàirce situated at the old Bonnington primary building.

The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) is the principal convention and conference centre in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The Leamington Lift Bridge is a lift bridge that crosses the Union Canal near its terminus at Lochrin Basin in Edinburgh.

The Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 was the 19th edition of the Eurovision Young Musicians contest. It was hosted by the United Kingdom, for the first time since the inaugural contest in 1982. This edition was a co-production between the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Edinburgh International Festival and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as host broadcaster. Musicians representing eighteen countries with EBU membership participated in the contest, with Albania making their debut alongside seven returning countries, while Austria decided not to participate for the first time. The final concert took place at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on 23 August 2018, with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under their principal conductor Thomas Dausgaard. It was produced by BBC Cymru Wales for broadcast by BBC Scotland and BBC Radio 3, with Petroc Trelawny and Josie d'Arby being the presenters for the show. Ivan Bessonov of Russia won the contest, marking the country's first win in the competition and the first pianist to win since Poland's Stanisław Drzewiecki in 2000.

The Edinburgh Filmhouse is a cinema located in Edinburgh, Scotland, which opened in 1979. It is home to the world's oldest continually running film festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival.

St. Kentigern's Church is a former Episcopalian church which is now disused in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is located on the Union Canal in Viewforth and was built in 1897. It was designed by John More Dick Peddie, a prolific Scottish architect working at the end of the 19th century and the designer of the Caledonian Hilton building. The church closed in 1941 after which it was used as a nursery and a garage. In 2005, there was an attempt to demolish the church. In 2015, the church was found to contain a large Cannabis haul.In 2020, City of Edinburgh council received a planning application to convert the church into residential use.

The Cameo is an Edinburgh cinema which started life as the King's Cinema on 8 January 1914 and is one of the oldest cinemas in Scotland still in use. Since becoming the Cameo in 1949, it has had a tradition of showing art house films. From 1949 onward it has been an important venue for the Edinburgh International Film Festival. It is at Tollcross, and since 1992 has been a three-screen cinema. The Cameo was an independent cinema until 2012, when it was bought by the Picturehouse chain, owned by Cineworld.

Tollcross (Scottish Gaelic: Toll na Croise) is a major road junction to the south west of the city centre of Edinburgh, Scotland which gives its name to the surrounding area. It lies between the more affluent area of Bruntsfield and the Grassmarket.
