Museum of Folk Architecture and Life is an open-air museum located in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. It features over 30 traditional structures collected from villages across Zakarpattia Oblast, the Ukrainian province of which Uzhgorod is the capital. According to Michael Benanav of The New York Times, "the museum's centerpiece is 16th-century St. Michael's Church, with a roof and onion-domed steeple covered in wooden shingles." Uzhgorod Castle, located nearby, is an imposing fortress that housed the regents of the Habsburgs. In English, the museum may also be known as Subcarpathian Rus' Museum of Folk Architecture and Customs, Transcarpathian Museum of Folk Architecture and Customs, Uzhhorod Museum of Folk Architecture and Folkways or Uzhhorod Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life.

Uzhhorod Castle (Ukrainian: Ужгородський замок; Hungarian: Ungvári vár) is an extensive citadel on a hill in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. It was built in a mixture of architectural styles and materials between the 13th and 18th centuries and figured heavily in the history of Hungary. The very name of Uzhhorod/Ungvár refers to the castle, translating as "the Uzh castle". The earliest stone buildings on the site of the castle may be dated to the 13th century. Charles I of Hungary gave the castle grounds to his Italian supporters from the Drugeth family. They erected a rectangular defensive structure with rhomboid bastions that recalled the castles of South Italy.The fortification, augmented in the 16th and 17th centuries, underwent numerous sieges (the last one by Francis II Rákóczi in 1703-04) but was never taken. In the 18th century, it was modernised under the supervision of Lemaire, a military engineer from France.As the male line of the Drugeth family died out in 1691, Kristina Drugeth, heiress to the vast Drugeth dominions, married Count Miklós Bercsényi, making him the third richest man in Hungary. Bercsényi, remembered as a key figure in Rákóczi's War for Independence, resided in the fortified palace within the castle. It was there that he treated with the ambassadors of Peter the Great and Louis XIV concerning the establishment of an anti-Habsburg alliance. In 1711, Bercsényi fled Hungary and his estates were confiscated to the Austrian crown.As the need for a military stronghold in the area declined with the extension of the Habsburg dominions further to the east, Ungvár Castle was given over to the Ruthenian Greek-Catholic Church which opened a school there. In 1728 and 1879, fire ravaged the castle grounds.

The Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo is an eparchy (diocese) associated with the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church under an unidentified status and territory located in the west of Ukraine, roughly equivalent with Zakarpatska Oblast. The eparchy was created by the Pope Clement XIV in 1771. The eparchy is in full communion with the Catholic Church. Its parishes observe the Byzantine Rite which is also celebrated by the majority of Orthodox Christians, and as provided for in the original terms of the Union of Uzhhorod. The eparchy is a mother eparchy of at least four modern metropoles, i.e., the Slovak Greek Catholic Church, the Romanian Greek Catholic Church, the Hungarian Greek Catholic Church, and the Byzantine Catholic Metropolitan Church of Pittsburgh in the United States.

The Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church (Rusyn: Русиньска ґрекокатолицька церьков; Latin: Ecclesia Graeco-Catholica Ruthenica), also known in the United States simply as the Byzantine Catholic Church, is an Eastern Catholic church that uses the Byzantine Rite for its liturgies, laws, and cultural identity. It is one of the 23 Eastern Catholic churches that are in full communion with the Catholic Church and the Pope of Rome. There are significant, culturally distinct communities in the United States, Canada, and Europe. In the United States, the Byzantine Catholic Metropolitan Church of Pittsburgh is self-governing (sui iuris). In Europe, Ruthenian jurisdictions are exempt directly to the Holy See. The European branch has an eparchy in Ukraine (the Eparchy of Mukacheve) and another in the Czech Republic (the Ruthenian Apostolic Exarchate of Czech Republic). The Ruthenian Catholic Church is rooted among the Rusyn people who lived in Carpathian Ruthenia, with Lviv long serving as a hub of this culture. This part of the Carpathian Mountains straddles the borders of the present-day states of Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Ukraine. Today, the church is multi-ethnic. Members of the metropolitan province of Pittsburgh are predominantly English-speaking. Most are descendants of Rusyns – including sub-groups like the Boikos, Hutsuls and Lemkos – but the descendants of other nationalities are also present such as Slovaks, Hungarians and Croats as well as those of non-Slavic and non-Eastern European ancestry. The modern Eparchy of Mukacheve in Ukraine is mostly Ukrainian speaking and remains officially part of the greater Ruthenian Church.

Holy Cross Cathedral is a Greek Catholic cathedral of Eparchy of Mukachevo in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. It is dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The Baroque church was built in 1646 at the behest of the Jesuits from funds donated by the Drugeth noble family. It sustained some damage during Rákóczi's War of Independence. After the Society of Jesus was suppressed in 1773, Empress Maria Theresa allowed the Greek Catholics to take possession of the building. It was renovated to László Fabri's Neoclassical designs in 1848. During the Soviet period (1945–1991) the building was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church. On October 10, 1991, after the legalization and restoration of the Greek Catholic Church, the cathedral was returned to the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo. On June 28, 2003, the relics of Blessed Theodore Romzha were translated to the cathedral.According to the official website of the Eparchy of Mukachevo, it still does not have its episcopal residence.

The Maria Theresia Garden Square situated in Uzhhorod, Ukraine.The idea of establishment belongs to Uzhhorod diplomat, lawyer and public figure Alen Panov. It was presented to public in May 2013, supported by Most Reverend Milan the bishop of Mukachevo Greek Catholic eparchy.

The Uzhhorod Synagogue building is located in Uzhhorod, in the present day Zakarpattia Oblast of western Ukraine.

Uzhhorod (Ukrainian: У́жгород, pronounced [ˈuʒɦorod]), historically known as Ungvár (Hungarian: Ungvár; German: Ungwar), is a city and municipality on the river Uzh in western Ukraine, at the border with Slovakia and near the border with Hungary. The city is approximately equidistant from the Baltic, the Adriatic and the Black Sea (650–690 km) making it the most inland city in this part of Europe. It is the administrative center of Zakarpattia Oblast (region), as well as the administrative center of the Uzhhorod Raion (district) within the oblast.

Ung County (in Latin: comitatus Unghvariensis; Hungarian: Ung (vár)megye; also in Slovak: Užský komitát/ Užská župa / Užská stolica; Romanian: Comitatul Ung) was an administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory is now mostly in western Ukraine, a smaller part in eastern Slovakia, and a very small area in Hungary.

Uzhhorod (Ukrainian: Ужгород) is the main railway station in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. It also is used as a port on the Slovakia–Ukraine border for freight transport. The rail border checkpoint is part of the Chop customs. The station was opened to the public in October 2004. It is on Heorhiy Kirpa Square in Uzhhorod.

Husák (Hungarian: Ungludas) is a village and municipality in the Sobrance District in the Košice Region of east Slovakia.

The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour is the principal Orthodox church in Transcarpathia. It dominates the Cyril and Methodius Square in the city of Uzhhorod. The 60-metre-tall five-domed church was built in the 1990s after the cathedral of the Holy Cross had been restituted to the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo. The modern building can hold up to 5000 worshippers. Its ground floor contains a chapel dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The arch-priest is Dmytro Sydor. The cathedral belongs to Eparchy of Mukachevo and Uzhhorod of the Russian Orthodox Church. In 2008 the building was raided by the national security agency on suspicion of separatist activities.
