The Houston Academy for International Studies (HAIS) is a Houston Independent School District charter school in Midtown Houston, Texas, United States. It is located on the Houston Community College System's Central College campus. It opened in August 2006.

Midtown is a central neighborhood of Houston, located west-southwest of Downtown. Separated from Downtown by an elevated section of Interstate 45 (the Pierce Elevated), Midtown is characterized by a continuation of Downtown's square grid street plan, anchored by Main Street and the METRORail Red Line. Midtown is bordered by Neartown (Montrose) to the west, the Museum District to the south, and Interstate 69 to the east. Midtown's 325 blocks cover 1.24 square miles (3.2 km2) and contained an estimated population of nearly 8,600 in 2015.Originally populated as a Victorian-style residential neighborhood in the 19th century, Midtown experienced an economic depression during the latter half of the 20th century, resulting in the departure of residents and businesses and a proliferation of vacant land. The formation of the Midtown Redevelopment Authority in the early 1990s and a renewed interest in Houston's urban core resulted in the gentrification of the district throughout the 2000s, fueled by an influx of young residents and the development of a vibrant nightlife. Like many other gentrified areas of Houston, Midtown's street signs are themed, specific to the area's logo, and there are many parks, sculptures, and businesses that include “Midtown” in their name, as a form of economic unity and to further attract more visitors and residents. Midtown has continued its rapid development through the 2010s, but the district continues to face issues of crime, inadequate infrastructure, chronic homelessness, and geographic disparities in public investment.

First Lutheran in Houston (also known as First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houston) is a historic Lutheran church at 1311 Holman Street in Houston, Texas. It is part of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC). The current church building was constructed in 1927 in a Lombard Romanesque style. The church building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

San Jacinto High School was a secondary school located at 1300 Holman Street in Houston, Texas; now part of the Houston Community College Central College, Central Campus. San Jacinto High School was located in the area now known as Midtown. It was a part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on December 4, 2012.

Emancipation Park and Emancipation Community Center are located at 3018 Emancipation Ave in the Third Ward area of Houston. It is the oldest park in Houston, and the oldest in Texas. In portions of the Jim Crow period it was the sole public park in the area available to African-Americans.

Eldorado Ballroom is a former nightclub in the Third Ward, Houston, on the other side of the road from Emancipation Park. The white brick and stucco Art Moderne building has 10,000 square feet (930 m2) of space.Caroline Love of Houston Public Media described it as "A pillar of Houston’s historic music scene". Leigh Cutler, in Houston History Magazine, stated that the Eldorado Ballroom "was representative of the last pinnacle of black culture in Houston before Jim Crow laws dissoived."The name refers to a nickname of the Savoy Ballroom in New York City.Musical styles at the venue included blues and jazz.

The Houston Community College System Foundation was founded in 1976 to provide scholarships to Houston Community College students and to support the college's efforts to attract and educate Houston-area students—including many non-traditional students and those facing barriers to higher education. Like virtually all community college foundations, for most of its existence the HCCS Foundation functioned primarily as a clearinghouse for scholarships, accepting funds from donors and awarding them to eligible students. It was not expected to engage in large-scale solicitation of funds. Much has changed since the HCCS Foundation's establishment. Higher education has become a requirement for earning a stable living, and businesses have begun clamoring for a more educated workforce. At the same time, tuition and fees at four-year institutions have skyrocketed, and Houston's demographics have shifted, with the majority of the city's young people now coming from backgrounds historically unlikely to receive higher education. In 2007, the HCCS Foundation launched a website, and was reclassified by the Internal Revenue Service as a Section 509(a)(1) and 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) publicly supported charity.

Trinity Church, in Midtown Houston, Texas, is a parish church in the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

The Houston Light Guard was one of the oldest militia companies founded in Texas. Founded in 1873, it served as Company G of the 143rd Infantry Regiment during both World Wars, was apart of the National Guard's one and only Airborne Infantry Brigade, a Ranger Company, and a Long Range Surveillance Company.

McGowen is an island platformed METRORail light rail station in Houston, Texas, United States. The station was opened on January 1, 2004 and is operated by the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO). Located in Midtown, this station is at the intersection of Main Street and McGowen Street. The station is split into two platforms: northbound is located on Main north of McGowen and southbound is located on Main south of McGowen.

The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, located in Houston, Texas, is a museum dedicated to the history and achievements of Buffalo Soldiers and African American soldiers from all of the branches of the United States Military.

The Benjamin Apartments is a building in Midtown, Houston listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designed by local architect, Alfred C. Finn, and completed in 1924. It was first an owner-occupied four-plex. Later it was used as a hospital in 1945, converted to single-family residential use in 1970, and after 1997, re-purposed as law offices. The building was vacant through most of the 1950s and 1960s.
