St. Vital Historical Society

St. Vital (French: Saint-Vital) is a ward and neighbourhood of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Located in the south-central part of the city, it is bounded on the north by Carrière Avenue; on the south by the northern limit of the Rural Municipality of Ritchot; on the west by the Red River; and on the east by the Seine River, except for the part lying south of the Perimeter Highway, which extends east across the Seine to the boundary of the RM of Springfield. The population as of the 2016 census was 67,580.Merging with Winnipeg in 1972, St. Vital was established in 1880 as a rural municipality, called the RM of St. Boniface. After the Town of Saint Boniface was formed in 1883, the RM continued operating as its own government, and was renamed to the Rural Municipality of St. Vital in 1903 to avoid confusion. In 1960, it became part of the Metropolitan Corporation of Greater Winnipeg, achieving city status soon after in 1962 until the Winnipeg merger.As a city ward, St. Vital is represented by a member of Winnipeg City Council. With slightly different boundaries, it also comprises the Winnipeg neighbourhood clusters of St. Vital North and St. Vital South.

Glenwood is a neighbourhood in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, located in the northern section of the district of St. Vital. It is bounded by Carrière Avenue on the north, the Seine River on the east, Fermor Avenue on the south, and the Red River and St. Anne's Road on the west. As of the 2016 census, Glenwood had a population of 3,880.It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in St. Vital and is mainly residential with some light commercial development, mainly retail and professional, along St. Mary's Road and St. Anne's Road. Guay Park in west Glenwood is the home of a war memorial honouring St. Vital residents who died in World Wars I and II and in Korea. Glenwood also contains the St. Vital Arch, featuring the former independent city's coat of arms. A mural at the St. Vital Curling Club in south Glenwood depicts scenes from the 1997 Red River flood; a list of flood years is also inscribed on the building's outer walls.The neighbourhood is also the home of Glenwood Community Centre, Glenwood School, the New Testament Church of God Pentecostal Church, the Winnipeg International Church of Christ, and Paroisse Ste. Marie, a francophone Roman Catholic church.

Varennes is a neighbourhood in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, located in the northern section of the district of St. Vital. It is a small triangular neighbourhood located, and is bounded by St. Mary's Road on the west, Fermor Avenue on the south, and St. Anne's Road (Trans-Canada Highway) on the east. In the 2001 census, Varennes had a population of 1,080.The neighbourhood was named for Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, sieur de La Vérendrye, an early French explorer in the district. It is in the federal riding of Saint Boniface—Saint Vital and the provincial riding of St. Vital.

The St. Vital Curling Club, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is a curling club in Western Canada and was founded in 1933. It started curling events in December 1933 in a building that was owned by the St. Vital Agricultural Society which it purchased in 1950. It was then moved to its current location in 1954 on Regal Avenue in Winnipeg.The club hosted it first Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in 1974. 2017-2018 President - Pam Kok 2018-2020 President - Ken Stevens 2020-2022 President - Jason Pruden 2022-current President - Kevin Blunden It is the home curling club of 2014 Olympic curling champions Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer and Dawn McEwen as well as 2018 Olympic Doubles curling champion Kaitlyn Lawes.

Riverview Health Centre is a community hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was founded in 1911 by the City of Winnipeg as the Winnipeg Municipal Hospital. The hospital consisted of two buildings called the King Edward Memorial Hospital which was built in 1911 and the King George Hospital built in 1914. The Princess Elizabeth Hospital was added in 1950 as the first long-term care facility in Canada. In 1983 the first purpose-built Geriatric Day Hospital was opened as an outpatient rehabilitation centre for seniors. It was named after the late MLA (1966-1969) and City of Winnipeg Mayor (1977-1979) Robert Ashley Steen. In 1993 the facility separated from the City of Winnipeg and became incorporated as a community hospital, changing its name to Riverview Health Centre. In 1995 the Municipal Hospital buildings were demolished, with the exception of a renovation of the Princess Elizabeth, and a new complex was constructed. The new facility opened in 1997, following a delay due to the Flood of the Century. Elm Park is a neighbourhood in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Located in the northern section of the district of St. Vital, it is bounded to the north by the Red River, to the east by St. Mary's Road, to the south by Fermor Avenue, and to the west by Dunkirk Drive. As of the 2016 census, Elm Park had a population of 1,715.

Glenlawn Collegiate is a public English-language secondary school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, located at 770 St. Mary's Road, Elm Park in the suburb of St. Vital. It is part of the Louis Riel School Division.

St. Boniface Diocesan High School is an independent Catholic high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It was established in 1965 to provide Catholic high school education to English speaking students of the French Diocese of St. Boniface.St. Boniface Diocesan High School had, throughout its history, Marianist Brothers and priests on staff. Between the years 1986 and 1989, the school operated as a Marianist school with a Marianist Rector. In April 1989, the school was incorporated as St. Boniface Diocesan High School Inc. St. Boniface Diocesan High School now serves a broader community. It teaches students from the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, the Ukrainian Archeparchy of Winnipeg, and as well as non-Catholic students.

Nelson McIntyre Collegiate (NMC) is a grade 9-12 high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is part of the Louis Riel School Division and has an enrollment of approximately 280 students. The school offers a wide range of programs for students of all skill levels and has a diverse student body that includes students from all over the world including International (Visa) Students from around the world. In September 2015, NMC incorporated “Propel”, a district-wide, semester-long elective project-based learning opportunity into the school's programming. In September 2016, NMC began a 4-year process of changing its educational model from a “traditional” model to a school-wide project-based learning model.

The Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church (French: Église du Précieux Sang) is a Roman Catholic parish located in the St. Boniface neighbourhood of Winnipeg, Canada. The church was designed by Canadian architect Étienne Gaboury. Construction of the building was completed in 1968. The church's tipi-inspired shape has been called Gaboury's most recognizable work by the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation.

Springs Christian Academy is a private Christian school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It has two campuses; the first for students from Nursery to Grade 5 and the second for students from Grade 6 to Grade 12. The school was founded in 1989 by Springs of Living Water Church (now Springs Church) in Winnipeg. It has 500 students across both campuses. Springs Christian Academy was the host site for the 2017 "AAA" MHSAA Varsity Boys Basketball Provincials. The tournament featured 8 teams and began on March 16 and ended on March 18. As hosts, Springs were ranked 8th and fell to the top ranked St. James Jimmies in the Quarter-Finals by a score of 68–62. Springs then lost to 5th ranked St. John's-Ravenscourt in the Consolation Semi-Finals by a score of 90–75. The Provincial Championship was eventually won by the 2nd ranked Neelin Spartans by a score of 89–48 over the 4th ranked Linden Christian Wings.
