Molina Aterno is a comune and town in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. The name derives from Latin molina ("mill"), the second part having been added in 1889 due to the presence of the Aterno river. Main attractions include the church of Santa Maria del Colle (12th century), the church of San Nicola (with a 1632 bell tower) and the baronial Palace.

Goriano Sicoli is a comune and town in the Province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Goriano is a medieval town of about 600 people (2013). The town, which sits on top of a mountain in southeast Abruzzo (about an hour and a half east of Rome and near the Adriatic coast town of Pescara), was made somewhat famous by M. C. Escher in his print of the town which hangs in the National Gallery of Art in Washington. Italian historical documents reference Goriano beginning around 816, but local residents claim the town is early Roman and existed in some form over 2000 years ago. Goriano Sicoli (literally, the Goriano of Sicily) lies at the south east end of the Comunità Montana Sirentina region of Abruzzo. This group of mountain towns includes ski resorts, castles, a Roman bridge, water wheels and rural churches. The region runs along both sides of the river Aterno, which flows from the regional capital L'Aquila to the Adriatic Sea.

The Hermitage of San Venanzio (Eremo di San Venanzio) is the site the ancient hermitage of Saint Venantius of Camerino, located above a stream in a remote ravine within a few kilometers north of Raiano, Province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo, Italy.

The Sagittario is a river in Italy. It is located primarily in the province of L'Aquila in the Abruzzo region of southern Italy. The river is the main tributary of the Aterno-Pescara. Its source is located near Parco Nazionale d'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise and Scanno. The river flows into Lago di Scanno near Scanno and flows out of the lake near Villalago. The portion of the river that enters the lake is known as the Tasso. The Sagittario flows north through the Appennino Abruzzese near Villalago, Bugnara, Sulmona and Pratola Peligna. It enters the Aterno-Pescara near Raiano and Popoli on the border with the province of Pescara.

The siege of Corfinium was the first significant military confrontation of Caesar's Civil War. Undertaken in February 49 BC, it saw the forces of Gaius Julius Caesar's Populares besiege the Italian city of Corfinium, which was held by a force of Optimates under the command of Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus. The siege lasted only a week, after which the defenders surrendered themselves to Caesar. This bloodless victory was a significant propaganda coup for Caesar and hastened the retreat of the main Optimate force from Italia, leaving the Populares in effective control of the entire peninsula.
