SS Muskegon

Mount Baldy is a sand dune located in Indiana Dunes National Park. It is on the southern shore of Lake Michigan and is 126 feet tall. It is a wandering dune that moves or shifts every year, and is called a "living dune." Mount Baldy is accessible from U.S. Route 12 (also known as Dunes Highway) between the town of Pines and the western border of Michigan City, Indiana. It is a tourist attraction locally and regionally, drawing weekend and summer visitors from Chicago. Prior to the dune's closure, one could ascend its 302 steps and see Chicago's skyline. North of Mount Baldy is a swimmable beach which is also part of Indiana Dunes National Park.

The Indiana State Prison is a maximum security Indiana Department of Correction prison for adult males; however, minimum security housing also exists on the confines. It is located in Michigan City, Indiana, about 50 miles (80 km) east of Chicago. The average daily inmate population in November 2006 was 2,200, 2,165 in 2011. The Indiana State Prison was established in 1860. It was the second state prison in Indiana. One of the most famous prisoners to be in the Michigan City prison was bank robber John Dillinger, who was released on parole in 1933.The prison houses all the male death row inmates in the state. It appeared in the ITV documentary Inside Death Row with Trevor McDonald. Indiana plans to close the prison in Michigan City after a new prison opens in Westville.

Willard Avenue was a South Shore Line flag stop located at the corner of Willard Avenue and 10th Street in Michigan City, Indiana. The station opened prior to 1937 and closed on July 5, 1994, as part of an NICTD service revision which also saw the closure of Ambridge, Kemil Road, LaLumiere, Rolling Prairie, and New Carlisle.

The Hoosier Slide was a large sand dune on the shore of Lake Michigan near Michigan City, Indiana. The 200-foot (61 m) dune was a popular tourist destination in the late 19th century, attracting visitors for the view from the top and to slide down the dune's face. At about the same time as it became a tourist attraction, it was found to be a good source of iron-rich sand that would make a light blue-tinted glass. The sand mining activity led to the dune's disappearance by 1920.

Michigan City Generating Station is a coal and natural gas-fired power plant located on the shore of Lake Michigan in Michigan City, Indiana. It is operated by Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), owned by NiSource. The station was built on the location of a large sand dune, the Hoosier Slide, which had been removed by mining for glassmaking sand.

The Michigan City Breakwater lighthouse is located in the harbor of Michigan City, Indiana.This is the successor to the Old Michigan City Light, when the lantern, lens and light was moved to the new light at the end of the newly extended pier. This is one of very few lights on the Great Lakes which still has the iron walkway atop the pier (see Manistee Pierhead lights and Grand Haven South Pierhead Inner Light).There has been a lighthouse in Michigan City for 170 years. However, "most people in Indiana don’t realize there is a lighthouse in the state." Mayor Oberlie passes out lapel pins to illustrate its importance and scope. He calls Lake Michigan "the city’s crown jewel," which became prominent when he was city planner in the 1970s.In May 2007, this aid to navigation was deemed excess by the Coast Guard. It was offered at no cost to eligible entities, including federal, state and local agencies, non-profit corporations, educational agencies, or community development organizations under the terms of the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act. "According to Mayor Chuck Oberlie, Michigan City filed a letter of interest for the lighthouse and will seek ownership."It is one of a dozen past or present lighthouses in Indiana.The old 1858 lighthouse, near the entrance to the park, is open as a museum every day except Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m.

Trail Creek is a 7.3-mile-long (11.7 km) north- by northwest-flowing stream whose main stem begins at the confluence of the West Branch Trail Creek and the East Branch Trail Creek in LaPorte County, Indiana, United States. Its mouth is a Lake Michigan harbor and marina adjacent to Washington Park in Michigan City, Indiana.

Coast Guard Station Michigan City is a United States Coast Guard station located in Michigan City, Indiana. The station is the only Coast Guard Station located on Lake Michigan in Indiana. Station Michigan City is a multi-mission unit that conducts missions in search and rescue, maritime law enforcement, homeland security and marine environmental protection. The station responds to an average of 125 search and rescue cases a year, assisting nearly two million dollars in property.

Lighthouse Place Premium Outlets is an open-air outlet store shopping mall located in Michigan City, Indiana. The mall is one of Michigan City's major tourist attractions. It is one of Northwest Indiana's most popular shopping centers, receiving an estimated one million visitors annually as of 2017. The mall is located in Michigan City's downtown area. It is designed to resemble a seaside village, playing off of its proximity to Lake Michigan.

Michigan City station was a train station in Michigan City, Indiana served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. It was served by two eastbound and one westbound Wolverine train at the time of closure; other Wolverine and Blue Water trains did not stop. The station had a platform shelter near the former prairie-style Michigan Central Railroad depot dating from 1915, which is now a local restaurant. That earlier station served Michigan Central Railroad, and later, New York Central passenger trains. Major NYC named trains passing through the station included the Canadian (east to Detroit and Toronto), the Chicago Mercury (east to Detroit) and the Wolverine (east to New York via Detroit and southwestern Canada, in contrast to the modern train).Service began at the new Amtrak station on April 26, 1981.: 203  The station closed effective April 4, 2022. The electric interurban South Shore Line, which operates between South Bend and Chicago, stops at 11th Street station roughly a mile to the south.

The Old Michigan City Light is a decommissioned lighthouse located in the harbor of Michigan City, Indiana.Built in 1858 at a cost of $8,000, this lighthouse, replaced an 1837 brick & stone light built at the edge of Lake Michigan. It was the second light at the site, and the predecessor to the Michigan City East Light, to which the lantern, lens and light were moved in 1904; it being the new light at the end of the newly extended pier.It was remodeled in 1904. Seven Lighthouse keepers and fourteen assistant keepers served here from 1837-1940.A fourth order Fresnel lens is on display.It is one of a dozen past or present lighthouses in Indiana.

First Congregational Church of Michigan City is a historic Congregational church building at 531 Washington Street in Michigan City, LaPorte County, Indiana. The church building was built in 1880-1881 and constructed in a Romanesque, Tudor Revival style. It was rebuilt in 1908-1909 following a fire. It is the second oldest church building in Michigan City.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. It is located in the Haskell and Barker Historic District.
