The Tatsuta wajū sluice gates (立田輪中人造堰樋門, Tatsuta-wajū jinzōseki-himon) were constructed in 1902 during works on the Kiso River in Yatomi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. They are an example of western hydraulic engineering technology adopted during the Meiji period.

The Nagara River (長良川, Nagara-gawa) has its source in the city of Gujō, Gifu Prefecture, and its mouth in the city of Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, Japan. Along with the Kiso River and Ibi River, the Nagara River is one of the Kiso Three Rivers of the Nōbi Plain. Previously, the river was named Sunomata River (墨俣川 Sunomata-gawa). With a length of 166 km (103 mi), it drains an area of 1,985 square kilometres (766 sq mi) in the Chūbu region and empties into Ise Bay. The government of Japan classifies it as a Class 1 river.

Yatomi Station (弥富駅, Yatomi-eki) is a junction railway station in the city of Yatomi, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, operated by Central Japan Railway Company (JR Tōkai) and the private railway company, Nagoya Railway (Meitetsu). The station's elevation is 0.93 m below sea level, the lowest among all above-ground stations of JR Group.

The Sieges of Nagashima (長島一向一揆, Nagashima Ikkō-ikki), taking place in 1571, 1573, and 1574, were part of Oda Nobunaga's campaigns against the Ikkō-ikki, arguably among his greatest enemies. Nagashima, in Owari Province along Japan's Pacific coast, was the location of a string of river island fortresses and defensive works controlled by the Ikkō-ikki, which surrounded their Ganshō-ji monastery and which included Nagashima Castle, which they had captured previously. Oda Nobunaga attacked three times over the course of four years, before finally destroying the entire Nagashima complex. These sieges were executed concurrently with Nobunaga's eleven-year siege against the Ikki's primary fortress of Ishiyama Hongan-ji.

The Ibi River (揖斐川, Ibi-gawa) is a tributary of the Kiso River located in Gifu and Mie Prefectures in Japan. Along with the Nagara and Kiso rivers, the Ibi is the third of the Kiso Three Rivers of the Nōbi Plain. It is one of Japan's first-class rivers. The former Tōkaidō post station of Kuwana-juku was located on the western banks of this river during the Edo period.

Nagashima Castle (長島城, Nagashima-jō), is a hirashiro-style Japanese castle located in northern part of the city of Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, Japan. It was the administrative center of Nagashima Domain during the Edo period.

Nagashima Domain (長島藩, Nagashima-han) was a Fudai feudal domain under the Tokugawa shogunate of Edo period Japan. It was located in northern Ise Province, in the Kansai region of central Honshu. The domain was centered at Nagashima Castle, located in what is now the city of Kuwana in Mie Prefecture.

As of December 1, 2019, the city had an estimated population of 44,589 in 18,185 households and a population density of 910 persons per km2. Kuwana Castle (桑名城, Kuwana-jō) is a Japanese castle located in Kuwana, northern Mie Prefecture, Japan. At the end of the Edo period, Kuwana Castle was home to a branch the Matsudaira clan, daimyō of Kuwana Domain. The castle was also known as "Ōgi-jō" (扇城) or "Asahi-jō" (旭城).

Kuwana-juku (桑名宿, Kuwana-juku) was the forty-second of the fifty-three stations (shukuba) of the Tōkaidō connecting Edo with Kyoto in Edo period Japan. It was located in former Ise Province in what is now part of the city of Kuwana, Mie Prefecture, Japan.
