Smíchov

Smichov Secondary Technical School (Czech: Smíchovská střední průmyslová škola, SSPŠ) is a secondary school based in the capital city of the Czech Republic Prague, Smíchov. It was founded in 1901 and now has over 600 students in 20 classes. Currently, the courses of Information technology, Cyber Security and Technical Lyceum are taught here. Students specialize in various sub-disciplines such as application development, virtual and augmented reality, Cyber Security, Multimedia, Internet of things, Robotics and Web applications.

Anděl (Czech pronunciation: [ˈanɟɛl], meaning "Angel") is a Prague Metro station on Line B. The station was built between 1977 and 1985, designed in the Soviet style, by Soviet architects and dedicated to the Czechoslovak–Soviet friendship. It was opened on 2 November 1985, as part of the inaugural section of Line B between Sokolovská and Smíchovské nádraží. The station was renamed in 1990 to Anděl, after the nearby Anděl neighborhood. At present it is one of the busiest stations on line B. Its original name was Moskevská, after the city of Moscow. In the same year the Czechoslovak Metrostav designed the station Prazhskaya, named after Prague, it was opened on the Serpukhovsko-Timiryazevskaya Line of the Moscow Metro, which resembles the ceramic-tiled stations on the C line's Jižní Město segment. The Anděl station still contains one of the last pieces of propaganda art promoting Czechoslovak-Soviet friendship.Anděl station has two exits, leading to the two underground vestibules. One vestibule is directly in the Anděl neighborhood, next to the shopping mall and the other is at "Na Knížecí", a large bus station serving as a terminus for local and intercity buses. The station was renovated in 2015.

The Prague Plateau (Czech: Pražská plošina) is a plateau and a geomorphological mesoregion of the Czech Republic. It is located in the area of Prague and in the Central Bohemian Region.

Švanda Theatre in Smíchov is a theater in Štefánikova street in Smíchov a suburb of Prague. It continues the long tradition of the previous theater based in this building and its surroundings. A theater was established on the site in 1871 by Pavel Švanda called Arena Eggenberg but the arena was demolished in 1891, an built a new arena the current Smíchov, theater.In 1900 the theater was radically rebuilt when the position of the stage and auditorium was changed, and the layout has been preserved. In 1908, then it was renamed the Intimate Theatre. In 1928, during the beginning of the economic crisis was dissolved file and in the building of the theater was owned by several tenants. In the years 1928-1930 he became the theater Vlasta Burian, in 1931-1932, then comic theater (Ferenc futurist and Jara Kohout). Since 1932 the theater has once again as Švandovo theater in 1935-1938 then letting Jara Kohout and from 1939-1944, then Jaroslav planks.After the war, authorities banned its traditional theatrical business and there arose soviet version of the Realistic theater, including a 1953 renaming the realistic theater Zdenek Nejedly. In 1991 with the fall of communism it was renamed the Theatre Labyrinth. In 1998 the theater was long closed but re-opened in 2002 as Švanda Theatre in Smíchov.

Anděl is a neighbourhood in Prague 5's central district of Smíchov, centered on a busy interchange. The name means 'angel' in Czech and originates from the 19th century U zlatého anděla (Golden Angel) pub originally named after a fresco in the gable depicting an angel. The painting of an angel was preserved after its demolition and is now displayed nearby the metro station entrance. Anděl is an important traffic center. Prague Metro's Line B runs beneath it, Anděl Station serving the area. Tramway lines in north–south and east–west direction cross there (lines 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 14 and 20). Otherwise, it is a pedestrian zone. After a redevelopment in the late 1990s, when French architect Jean Nouvel designed an office building called Golden Angel (Zlatý Anděl) above the Metro station with a picture of an angel from the movie Wings of Desire and quotes from Rilke on its facade, Anděl became one of the busiest parts of the city, with many offices of national and international companies. Across it (in the north-west quadrant), one of Prague's biggest shopping malls, Nový Smíchov, can be found, including multiplex cinema Cinema City; another multiplex, Cinestar (former Village Cinemas), is nearby in the Anděl City complex. Smíchov Synagogue is also in the area.

Prague 5, formally the Prague Municipal District (Městská čast Praha 5), is a second-tier municipality in Prague. The administrative district (správní obvod) of the same name consists of municipal districts Prague 5 and Slivenec. Prague 5 is one of the largest districts of Prague located at the west side of the Vltava river. It comprises Smíchov, Radlice, Košíře, Barrandov, Zlíchov, Zličín, Jinonice, Hlubočepy, Motol, Slivenec, Butovice, Chuchle, and Klukovice, as well as a very small part of Malá Strana. The district was the first one in Prague that offered free wireless internet connection to its citizens. Prague 5 is growing more important since the reconstruction of Anděl on Smíchov. Now, Anděl is the heart of Prague 5, with thousands of offices and one big shopping mall. Also, the underground garages in Anděl are the biggest in Prague. Prague 5 is very easily accessible by public transport: Metro line B, dozens of tram lines and buses.

The Golden Angel (Czech: Zlatý Anděl) is an administrative complex situated in Prague. The designer was French architect Jean Nouvel.The structure is located in the immediate vicinity of The Angel Crossroad (Křižovatka Anděl) which was named after The Golden Angel's Pharmacy (Lékárna U Zlatého Anděla). The pharmacy as well as its symbol - gilded statue of an angel - was demolished in 1980 to make a room for new subway station.

Nový Smíchov is a shopping mall located west of the centre of Prague in the Czech Republic. It opened in 2001. The mall has a retail area of 60,000 square metres (650,000 sq ft). It is one of the biggest shopping centres in the Czech Republic.

Lycée français de Prague (LFP, Czech: Francouzské gymnázium v Praze) is a French international school in Smíchov, District 5, Prague, Czech Republic. The school covers pre-maternelle (before preschool), until lycée (senior high school).

The Smíchov Synagogue is the only functionalist synagogue in Prague; it was reconstructed to this style in 1931. After the World War II, the building was used for secular purposes because the Smíchov Jewish community ceased to exist in the Shoah. In the present, the building is used for an archive of the Jewish Museum in Prague.

Dětský Island (Czech Dětský ostrov — literally Children's Island) is an island on the Vltava River in Prague, Czech Republic. It lies in the Smíchov district of the city. It is mentioned in texts as early as 1355. Until the 18th century, it was called Maltézský Island (after the owner of the Maltese monastery Panny Marie pod řetězem in the Lesser Quarter). Subsequently, it was named after members of Prague's Jewish community who owned the land – such names include Hykyšův, Funkovský, and Židovský. The island was artificially enlarged with the construction of the Smíchov floodgates (1913–1916). The south of the Island was attached to Petržílkovského island and a long dividing wall was built on the north side. The floodgates have two locks and they bypass two weirs on the river. An allegorical statue of the Vltava river and its tributaries stands on the northern side of the island. Each year on All Souls' Day (November 2), members of the association "Vltavan" place a wreath here as a memorial to those who have drowned in the river. The present-day segmented foot-bridge to the island was built in 1933. It is built on supports originally constructed for a proposed bridge from Myslíkova street (Jiráskův Bridge). The island's current name originates from the beginning of the 1960s, when a children's playground was built here.
