Hirschberg, Thuringia

Schießbach is a river of Bavaria, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Saale near Hirschberg.

Tannbach is a brook that is 8.7 kilometres (5.4 mi) long in north-east Bavaria and southern Thuringia, Germany. The source is located east of Gefell in the Saale-Orla-Kreis district in Thuringia. Initially it flows south through Gebersreuth, a district of Gefell, before reaching Mödlareuth. During the Cold War the little brook marked the border between West and East Germany and divided the little village into two parts. After Mödlareuth it flows in south-westerly direction before it joins the Saale as right tributary.

Gefell (German pronunciation: [ɡəˈfɛl] ) is a town in the Saale-Orla-Kreis district, in Thuringia, Germany.

Joditz is a village in Upper Franconia, in the municipality of Köditz and the district of Hof. Joditz lies in the valley of the Saale, ten kilometers north-west of the town of Hof. The village has 345 inhabitants (as of January 2010) and contains a parish church. The area of the parish includes the hamlets Joditz, Lamitz, Saalenstein, Scharten, Stöckaten and Siebenhitz. At the centre of the village is St John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. It was first mentioned in 1365 and has been the parish church since 1561. The present structure was built in 1704. The pulpit, altar, organ case and baptismal font (the last no longer extant) were by the Hof sculptor Johann Knoll. The altarpiece depicts the birth of Christ, and is flanked by statues of Moses and John the Baptist. The altar is surmounted by three cherubs with the arms of the former patron families, and the pulpit is decorated with figures of the four evangelists. The church was renovated in 2002/2003.

Sparnberg is a village in Thuringia, Germany. It was an independent municipality until 1994, when it became a district of the town Hirschberg. It is situated on the right bank of the river Saale, at 440 m above sea level. It has an area of about 333 hectares. Sparnberg counted about 160 residents in 2005. From 1949 to 1990 the Saale formed the border between East (GDR) and West Germany (FRG) here, with Sparnberg on the GDR side.

Töpen is a municipality in Upper Franconia in the district of Hof in Bavaria in Germany.

Mödlareuth (German pronunciation: [ˈmøːdlaˌʁɔʏ̯t]) is a German village situated partly in Bavaria and partly in Thuringia. Between 1949 and 1990, the northern part was in East Germany and the southern part in West Germany. The Thuringian part of the village belongs to Gefell while the Bavarian part belongs to Töpen. It was called "Little Berlin" by the Americans because a wall divided it until 1989, like the Berlin Wall divided Berlin. "Little Berlin" became a symbol of separation between the West and East by the wall, but also a symbol of reunification. Today the Museum Mödlareuth shows the history of the village and gives information about the political system at that time.
