Kilkeel High School

The Tullaghmurray Lass was a prawn fishing boat based in Kilkeel, County Down, Northern Ireland. On 14 February 2002 the Tullaghmurray Lass left Kilkeel Harbour to fish for prawns. When the boat failed to return when expected a huge search mission was organised involving local fishing boats, the RNLI, HM Coastguard, the Royal Navy and the Irish Navy. (including two helicopters, a Hawker-Siddeley Nimrod and the minesweeper HMS Bridport) The extensive search continued for two months, the issue being raised in the Northern Ireland Assembly. Eventually the main body of the wreckage and the bodies of the three crew were recovered. The three victims were from the same family. Michael Greene (53), his son (33) and grandson (8), both of whom were also called Michael, died in the accident. Initial reports suggested that the sinking was caused by a collision with a larger vessel. However the official inquest found that a gas explosion on the boat causing huge damage caused it to sink. In the same year another Kilkeel boat was lost in Carlingford Lough, causing one death. The accidents raised safety fears on the Kilkeel fleet. In 2006 the death of two further fishermen aboard the Greenhill from nearby port Ardglass raised further concerns.

Kilkeel (from Irish Cill Chaoil, meaning 'church of the narrow') is a small town, civil parish and townland (of 554 acres and 6521inh) in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is the southernmost town in Northern Ireland. It lies within the historic barony of Mourne. Kilkeel town is the main fishing port on the Down coast, and its harbour is home to the largest fishing fleet in Northern Ireland. It had a population of 6,633 people at the 2021 census. The town contains the ruins of a 14th-century church and fort, winding streets and terraced shops. It lies just south of the Mourne Mountains.

Kilkeel Lifeboat Station sits on the northern side of the harbour at Kilkeel, a town approximately 18 miles (29 km) south-east of Newry, home to the largest fishing fleet in Northern Ireland, located on the south-east coast of County Down, Northern Ireland. A lifeboat was first stationed at Kilkeel on 10 October 1986 by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The station currently operates the B-class (Atlantic 85) Inshore lifeboat, Frank William Walton (B-812), on station since 2006.

St Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel is a Roman Catholic secondary school located in Kilkeel, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is a co-educational school for pupils aged 11 to 18, with about 700 pupils enrolled.

An Ríocht GAC is a GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association) Club based in County Down, Northern Ireland. The club provides teams from underage level to adult level in both Gaelic football and camogie. The club is one of 47 in Down GAA. The club is based in the Mournes just outside Kilkeel at Dunavil Road.

Dunnaval (from Irish Dún Abhaill, meaning 'stronghold of the apple-tree') is a small village and townland (of 273 acres) near Kilkeel in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is situated in the civil parish of Kilkeel and the historic barony of Mourne. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 147 people. It lies within the Newry and Mourne District Council area.

St Joseph's High School Crossmaglen (Irish: Ardscoil Naomh Iosaif, Cros Mhic Lionnain) is a non selective, Catholic co-educational secondary school located in the town of Crossmaglen in the south of County Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Mourne (named after the Múrna) is a barony in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies in the south-east of the county, with the Irish Sea to its east. It is bordered by two other baronies: Iveagh Upper, Lower Half and Iveagh Upper, Upper Half to the north and west. Called at one time Bairrche its present name of Mourne comes from the Múrna (Old Irish: Mughdorna), a people who hail from a territory of the same name in modern County Monaghan.

Royal Air Force Greencastle or more simply RAF Greencastle is a former Royal Air Force airfield located 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the fishing village of Kilkeel and took in a large part of Cranfield Bay. It was opened as an RAF bomber Operational Training Unit (OTU) in April 1942 but it was almost immediately transferred to the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) and renamed AAF Stn 237.

Attical or Atticall (from Irish Áit Tí Chathail, meaning 'place of Cathal's house') is a small village and townland (of 396 acres) in the Mourne Mountains of County Down, Northern Ireland. It is situated in the civil parish of Kilkeel and the historic barony of Mourne. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 153 people. It lies within the Newry and Mourne District Council area. The village has a Catholic maintained primary school, called Holy Cross, for 4–11 year olds. There is a Roman Catholic church, a shop and a Gaelic football club. The Cnocnafeola Cultural and Residential Centre offers accommodation for trekkers and visitors to the Mournes. The village is also home to the Holy Cross Accordion Band, which has won All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann competitions on six occasions: 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018. They were also crowned All Ireland Junior Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann champions in 2016.

Cranfield Point (Irish: Pointe Chreamhchoille) is the southernmost point of Northern Ireland. It is located at the mouth of Carlingford Lough in the townland of Cranfield, County Down. It was once the site of the Cranfield Point lighthouse, marking the entrance to the lough. Its poor position led to the construction of the Haulbowline Lighthouse situated in the middle of the entrance to Carlingford Lough. Cranfield Point Lighthouse subsequently fell victim to coastal erosion and collapsed into the sea during the 1860s. The lighthouse keeper's cottage remained and was later converted into a private residence that can still be seen as of 2007, identified by its characteristic tall black chimneys.

The Silent Valley Reservoir is a reservoir located in the Mourne Mountains near Kilkeel, County Down in Northern Ireland. It supplies most of the water for County Down, surrounding counties and most of Belfast. It is owned and maintained by Northern Ireland Water Limited (formerly DRD Water Service). The reservoir was built between 1923 and 1933 by a workforce of over 1,000 men, nine of whom died during construction.
