Soria (Senate constituency)

Soria is one of the 52 constituencies (Spanish: circunscripciones) represented in the Congress of Deputies, the lower chamber of the Spanish parliament, the Cortes Generales. The constituency currently elects two deputies. Its boundaries correspond to those of the Spanish province of Soria. The electoral system uses the D'Hondt method and a closed-list proportional representation, with a minimum threshold of three percent.

Soria is a province of central Spain, in the eastern part of the autonomous community of Castile and León. Most of the province is in the mountainous Sistema Ibérico area.

The Battle of Calatañazor was a legendary battle of the Reconquista that supposedly took place in July 1002 in municipality Calatañazor in the province of Soria between an army of invading Moors under Almanzor and a force of Christian allies led by Alfonso V of León, Sancho III of Navarre, and Sancho García of Castile. Almanzor, who historically died the night of 10–11 August, is said to have died of wounds received in the battle. The battle of Calatañazor has been branded as unreal since the 18th century due to the non-existence of any evidence in the chronicles of the time. Its ahistoricity was first demonstrated by Reinhart Dozy in 1881. The French Arabist Évariste Lévi-Provençal attributed the destruction of San Millán de la Cogolla by the Saracens to the campaign in municipality Calatañazor.

Calatañazor is a municipality located in the province of Soria, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2010 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 70 inhabitants. The municipality is named after the tiny fortified city on top of a hill. Also situated in the municipality are the hamlets Aldehuela and Abioncillo. Abioncillo used to be abandoned like many forsaken hamlets in Spain, but in the 1980s was turned around by a few dedicated teachers into an educational center. In the valley between Calatañazor and Abioncillo, the Battle of Calatañazor took place in 1002. This place is still named El valle de la sangre (the valley of blood). Almanzor, the ruler of Muslim Al-Andalus is by some historians said to have died in this battle and was buried in Medinaceli. There is a statue of him in Calatañazor. A certain kind of juniper tree, the Juniperus thurifera (Spanish juniper), grows in a close forest in the nature reserve of El Sabinar de Calatañazor. Some are the biggest to be found in the whole Iberian peninsula. Some more are found close to an underground river, the Abión, which surfaces at the Fuentona de Muriel, a natural heritage site. The Fuentona (spring) is often visited, especially by advanced cave divers. The locals call this spring El Ojo de la Mar (the eye of the sea). In the vicinity of Abioncillo, some 4000-year-old drawings are found in La Cueva Maja. Both in the center of Abioncillo and Calatañazor, some centuries old elms can be found, as in Celt-Iberian times were an important symbol. The name Calatañazor comes from the Arab Qalat al-Nusur which can either mean "Castle of Azure" or "Castle of Vultures".

Rioseco de Soria is a municipality located in the province of Soria, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 140 inhabitants.

Golmayo is a municipality in the Province of Soria, in the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain. The municipality lies at an altitude of 1,025 metres (3,363 ft) and covers an area of 190 square kilometres (73 sq mi).

Soria Railway Station (IATA: RII) is the railway station of Soria, Spain. It is a terminus, but in the past trains continued into the interior of the province. The line runs 94 km from Soria to Torralba, where it joins the conventional Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona line.

Torreblacos is a municipality located in the province of Soria, Castile and León, Spain. According to the 2021 census (INE), the municipality had a population of 26 inhabitants.

Nuevo Estadio Los Pajaritos is a multi-purpose stadium in Soria, Spain. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of CD Numancia. The stadium holds 8,261 seats and was built in 1999. It is notoriously cold and over 1,000 metres above sea level, allegedly giving Numancia a strong home advantage in winter. The move to the new stadium coincided with a rise in CD Numancia fortunes. They were promoted to the Primera in 1999 and spent two seasons there before returning to Segunda A. They returned to the Primera in season 2004-05 but their stay lasted just the one season. They returned to the Primera in season 2007–08. They currently play in the Segunda División B. Prior to 1999, CD Numancia played at the Estadio Municipal Los Pajaritos. It is a basic athletics stadium with a small cantilevered stand on the west side, adjacent to the new stadium. That was even colder, having fewer wind breaks from the stands, with the suggestion that hot showers were only installed in 1996 at the expense of FC Barcelona, after third-tier Numancia had knocked three other top flight clubs out of the Spanish Cup that year. In January 2016, a heating system was installed in the stands. It was to be inaugurated on 14 February 2016, in the 2015–16 Segunda División game between Numancia and Mallorca.
