Shawnee Mission Parkway

State Avenue is a stretch of roadway in Wyandotte County, Kansas. Its western terminus is at both US 73 and K-7 in Bonner Springs, Kansas and its eastern terminus at North 4th Street in downtown Kansas City, Kansas. Its western terminus continues at both US 24 and US 40, turning south through Tonganoxie. Parallel Parkway runs parallel approximately eighth tenths of a mile to the north nearly the length of the road.

The area derives its name from the Munsee (tribe) which was part of the Algonquian speaking Delaware (tribe). Reverend Jesse Vogler and John Kilbuck, and 72 Christianized Munsee Indians, came to the area aboard the St. Peters. The Munsee Moravian Mission was located in the Westfield settlement.On December 8, 1874, the James-Younger Gang are believed to have robbed a Kansas Pacific Railroad there of $30,000. Grinter Place in the Grinter Heights neighborhood is on the National Register of Historic Places. A ferry that was used on the military route between Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and Fort Scott, Kansas crossed the river here.

The K-32 Turner Bridge was a bridge that crossed the Kansas River during its almost 60 mile journey through Kansas City, and Topeka. It first opened in 1955 as a two lane steel through-truss bridge. In 2001, the bridge was torn down, due to its major superstructure problems, and with the growing area, could no longer handle the traffic flow as a two lane. By late 2002, the through-truss was gone, and a new five lane girder was in place. The bridge now carries two lanes of eastbound traffic, and three lanes westbound. The Turner Bridge marks the beginning of the Turner Diagonal.The first bridge in the area called the "Turner Bridge" was designed and announced in 1898. The first bridge was a steel bridge with three spans and had an estimated cost of $60,000 to build.There is as boat ramp located at the bridge site. Merriam is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, United States, and part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 11,098. Merriam is included in the Shawnee Mission postal designation. It is also the headquarters of Seaboard Corporation.

Shawnee Mission Northwest High School is a fully accredited public high school located in Shawnee, Kansas, United States, serving students in grades 9-12. It is one of five high schools operated by Shawnee Mission USD 512 school district. The school colors are orange, black, and white. The school population is approximately 1,850 students. The current principal is Lisa Gruman. Shawnee Mission Northwest was founded in 1969 in order to help educate the increasing number of students due to the emerging population of Shawnee Mission. The school launched the International Baccalaureate program at the start of the 2008–2009 school year. Shawnee Mission Northwest is a member of the Kansas State High School Activities Association and offers a variety of sports programs. Athletic teams compete in the 6A division and are known as the "Cougars".

KCNW (1380 AM) is an American radio station licensed to serve the community of Fairway, Kansas. The station broadcasts a religious radio format to the Kansas City metropolitan area with a 2,500-watt daytime and 29-watt nighttime signal. KCNW is owned by Wilkins Communication Network and the broadcast license is held by Kansas City Radio, Inc.In the 1960s, 1380 AM was home to a Top-40 station, KUDL. In 1973, the Top-40 format jumped to FM and eventually became a soft adult contemporary station, while 1380 housed an oldies format for two years. The KCNW letters (Kansas City's News World) were adopted shortly after a news format debuted with programming from the short-lived "News and Information Service" based at NBC Radio. Although following the lead of other AM stations dumping music for talk (notable KQV in Pittsburgh the same year), the news format didn't last long in Kansas City.In 1978, KCNW started broadcasting religious programming, yielding the acronym Kansas City's New Way. Today it is a satellite station owned by Wilkins Communication Network of Spartanburg, South Carolina, which specializes in syndicating programs devised by individual churches and airs national shows such as Sid Roth, Irvin Baxter Jr. and Noah Hutchings.
