The Battle of Cobleskill (also known as the Cobleskill massacre) was an American Revolutionary War raid on the frontier settlement of Cobleskill, New York on May 30, 1778. The battle, having taken place in the modern-day hamlet of Warnerville, New York, near the modern (2019) Cobleskill-Richmondville High School, marked the beginning of a phase in which Loyalists and Iroquois, encouraged and supplied by British authorities in the Province of Quebec, raided and destroyed numerous villages on what was then the United States western frontier of New York and Pennsylvania. A small party of Iroquois entered Cobleskill and drew the local defenders into a trap set by a much larger party of Iroquois and Loyalists under the command of Joseph Brant. After killing a number of the militia and driving off the remainder, Brant's forces destroyed much of the settlement. New York's defenders retaliated against Brant's actions against Cobleskill and other communities by destroying Iroquois villages later in the year, and Continental Army forces destroyed more Iroquois villages in the Sullivan Expedition of 1779.

Cobleskill is a village in the western part of the town of Cobleskill in Schoharie County, New York, United States. The population was 4,678 at the 2010 census.The village is southwest of Amsterdam. The State University of New York at Cobleskill is located at the western side of the village.

Cobleskill Historic District

Cobleskill Historic District is a national historic district located at Cobleskill in Schoharie County, New York. The district includes 180 contributing buildings and eight contributing sites. It encompasses a commercial area, several residential streets, churches, an old school, a railroad, and a fairgrounds. The area includes a small stream that runs through a park containing a millpond. The focal point of the community is the 1874 Hotel Augustan, now used for commercial purposes. The oldest building is the Bull's Head Inn, built in 1802.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The current superintendent is Matthew Sickles.

Warnerville, New York

Warnerville is a hamlet in Schoharie County, New York, United States. Located along State Route 7 between Cobleskill and Richmondville, it is the municipality containing the majority of the sites of the Battle of Cobleskill. On June 10, 1778, after receiving reliable reports of May's Cobleskill Massacre, the Board of War of the Continental Congress concluded that a major Indian war was in the offing. This would result in the funding from the Continental Congress and orders of General George Washington that launched the punitive 1779 Sullivan Expedition, which burned at least 40 Amerindian towns and villages whilst capturing or destroying great stores of foods. Warnerville is today the site of the Cobleskill/Richmondville High School and has a post office with the ZIP Code of 12187.

WCSQ-LP (105.9 FM) was a radio station licensed to Cobleskill, New York, United States. Branded on air as "Radio Cobleskill," the station was awarded its license in January 2014 and first began broadcasting on October 16, 2016, featuring a music-intensive adult hits/hot adult contemporary format, as well as locally produced and syndicated specialty music and public affairs programming. As an LPFM station, it operated on a non-commercial basis, as per the terms of its license.The station was owned and operated by Dialogos of Cobleskill, Incorporated, a non-profit organization based in Cobleskill which produces radio programming and podcasts, including Dialogos Radio. The station operated with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 100 watts from the WUCB-LD tower on Route 7 in Richmondville, New York, covering Cobleskill, Richmondville, and the surrounding communities. The station went off the air on February 29, 2020 and turned in its license to the FCC on September 29, 2020.
