Assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Bangabandhu Bhaban also known as Bangabandhu Memorial Museum or simply referred as Dhanmondi 32 was the personal residence of the founding father and President of Bangladesh. Sheikh Mujib was assassinated along with most of his family in the residence, and today it is a museum. It is located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka.

At 01:30 on 26 March 1971 (UTC+6), Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the president of the All-Pakistan Awami League (AL) and the newly premier-elect in the 1970 Pakistani general election, was arrested by the Pakistan Army's Special Service Group from his private residence in Dacca, East Pakistan, Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). The arrest operation was codenamed Operation Big Bird and occurred with Operation Searchlight. Following his arrest, Mujib was sent to Jail in Lyallpur, and in 2 August, it was announced that he would be tried in a military tribunal behind closed doors. The tribunal brought charges of treason against him. Immediately after Mujib's arrest, following a month-long non-cooperation movement, the Bangladesh Liberation War began, and the Provisional Government of Bangladesh was formed, declaring Mujib as its president. In 4 December, the military tribunal sentenced him to death, although the verdict was kept secret. However, before the sentence could be carried out, Bangladesh and India's joint Allied Forces launched an offensive into East Pakistan, leading to the surrender of the Pakistan Army in Dacca on 16 December. After the surrender, the government of Yahya Khan collapsed, and following the rise of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as the new Pakistani president, Mujib was released on 8 January 1972.

On 5 February 2025, the former residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, commonly known as Dhanmondi 32, was occupied and demolished by the protesters in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The building, which housed a museum and was considered a historic site by the Awami League supporters, was torn down by protesters during a period of intense political turmoil following months after the resignation of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The demolition followed an online press conference attended by Sheikh Hasina while in self-imposed exile in India, during which she addressed topics that protesters viewed as against national interests. This event occurred amid years of growing discontent regarding the political influence of the Sheikh family in the country's political landscape, and the rise of a cult of personality of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Mastermind School won "The Most Versatile School" award in 2011 and 2015, and was the Champion of the junior category in 2015 at the Biotechnology Fest, Hosted by City Montessori School, in Lucknow, India. Mastermind School provides extra-curricular activities of debating, community service, and sports. The school clubs are run by an executive committee, selected for each club. Every year the Mastermind Community Service Club takes part in charitable works, including charity food sales, paying visits at Ashiq Foundation (a rehabilitation centre for under-privileged cancer-affected children), collection of winter clothes for charity distribution, a blood donation camp and art competition for autistic children.

State University of Bangladesh (SUB) is a private university in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was established in 2002 under the Private University Act 1992.

The Nazrul Institute is Bangladesh's national institute, established in February 1985. Its headquarters are located in Kabi Bhaban in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. It fulfills a number of roles; promoting the literary work of the poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, recognising excellence in literature research by conferring awards, and public engagement.

Darul Ihsan University (Bengali: দারুল ইহসান বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or DIU was a private university in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was founded by late Syed Ali Ashraf in 1989. The government of Bangladesh accredited it as a private university in 1993. The Education Ministry shut down the university on 26 July 2016 for internal conflict among the trustees.
