Maitland Vale is a predominantly rural suburb and covers an area of 11.3 square kilometres (4.4 sq mi) with a new residential development in the southeastern corner comprising 20.5 hectares (51 acres). The Hunter River is located along the southern boundary, with the North Coast Railway along the eastern boundary. The suburb is situated in a valley with hills rising in the west, north and east. Maitland Vale has a minimum elevation of 10 metres (33 ft) along the southern boundary rising to 126 metres (413 ft) in the north. Comerfords Hill is a prominent point in the southeast with a height of 84 metres (276 ft).

Rutherford Technology High School (abbreviated as RTHS), also known as Rutherford High School, is a government-funded none-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located in Rutherford, a suburb of the city of Maitland in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1985, the school enrolled approximately 1,222 students in 2020, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom 20 percent identified as Indigenous Australians and five percent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the NSW Department of Education; the principal is Simone Hughes.

Walka Water Works is a heritage-listed 19th-century pumping station at 55 Scobies Lane, Oakhampton Heights, City of Maitland, New South Wales, Australia. Originally built in 1887 to supply water to Newcastle and the lower Hunter Valley, it has since been restored and preserved and is part of Maitland City Council's Walka Recreation and Wildlife Reserve. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

Maitland ( MAYT-lənd) is a city in the Hunter Valley of New South Wales, Australia and the seat of Maitland City Council, situated on the Hunter River approximately 166 kilometres (103 mi) by road north of Sydney and 35 km (22 mi) north-west of Newcastle. It is on the New England Highway approximately 17 km (11 mi) from its origin at Hexham. At the 2021 census it had approximately 89,597 inhabitants, spread over an area of 392 square kilometres (151 sq mi), with most of the population located in a strip along the New England Highway between the suburbs of Lochinvar and Thornton. The city centre is located on the right bank of the Hunter River, protected from moderate potential flooding by a levee. Surrounding areas include the cities of Cessnock and Singleton local government areas.

At the 2016 census, Rutherford was home to almost 12,000 residents, making it one of the most populated suburbs. The suburb consists of mixed residential development, bulky goods retail, light industry, and manufacturing plants. It also has its own small commercial centre. Rutherford is served by a number of schools within the suburb. These are Rutherford Public School, St. Paul's Primary School, and Rutherford Technology High School. Anambah House is a heritage-listed residence at Anambah Road, Anambah, a suburb of Maitland in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia. It was designed by J. W. Pender and built from 1889 to 1906. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

Telarah railway station is located on the North Coast line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the western Maitland suburb of Telarah. It is served by NSW TrainLink Hunter Line services. The station opened on 14 August 1911 as West Maitland Marshalling Yard before being renamed Telarah on 15 April 1922. On 18 January 2018 a freight train derailed at the station on track 2; no one was injured.

It was established from 1860. It is also known as the Geological Survey collection of historic images. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.
