The Carrswold Historic District is a historic district in Clayton, Missouri. The district comprises a subdivision patterned after the garden city movement containing 23 single-family homes built between 1922 and 1924, which are located on Carrswold Drive on the north side of Wydown Boulevard. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.Carrswold was designed by Danish-born landscape architect Jens Jensen and was built on the former estate of St. Louis businessman Robert E. Carr, for which the subdivision was named. Jensen originally landscaped the community with native greenery and plant species, including hawthorn, sumac, and crabapple trees. Jensen also enacted several covenants, including prohibiting fences, front-facing garages, and any house or structure built in the California bungalow style.The entrance to the neighborhood is marked by stone pillars topped with lights, as well as a stone pavilion which served as a waiting area for the streetcar that formerly ran down Wydown Boulevard. The neighborhood's street is laid out in a large oval shape that contains common areas jointly owned by the residents. Of the 23 homes in the neighborhood, 15 were designed by the architecture firm Maritz & Young in styles including Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, and Tudor Revival.

Clayton is a city in and the seat of St. Louis County, Missouri. It borders the independent city of St. Louis. The population was 17,355 at the 2020 census. Organized in 1877, the city was named after Ralph Clayton, who donated the land for the St. Louis County courthouse.

The Metropolitan Zoological Park and Museum District or ZMD is a cultural tax district in St. Louis City and St. Louis County, Missouri. The district has five subdistricts: the St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Science Center, Missouri History Museum, and Missouri Botanical Garden. Of these, all but the Botanical Gardens are located in or near Forest Park. The district collects property taxes from residents of the City of St. Louis (St. Louis City) and St. Louis County and distributes the funds to each subdistrict. Institutions within the subdistrict are public non-profits. Only the Missouri Botanical Gardens charges an admission fee. The other institutions are free to the public, whether or not they live in St. Louis City or County.

The Brentmoor Park, Brentmoor and Forest Ridge District is a historic district comprising three private subdivisions in the city of Clayton, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, that were platted in 1910, 1911, and 1913, respectively by Henry Wright. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The St. Louis County Jail is located inside the Buzz Westfall Justice Center in Clayton, Missouri at 100 South Central Avenue, about eight miles (13 km) from downtown St. Louis. The holding capacity of the facility is 1,400 male and female inmates. The St. Louis County Jail is a direct-supervision facility that detains adults and juveniles being tried as adults who are awaiting trial or serving county sentences and is the only jail in Missouri that holds an accreditation known as the ALDF from the American Correctional Association (ACA). Opened in March 1998, the center replaced both the jail in the 1949 St. Louis County Courthouse building and the Adult Correctional Building in Chesterfield, Missouri. The center was rededicated the "Buzz Westfall Justice Center" in 2004.

The St. Louis County Police Department (SLCPD) is the primary and largest law enforcement agency serving St. Louis County in the U.S. state of Missouri. The current Chief of Police is Colonel Kenneth Gregory. According to the Charter of St. Louis County, the county police chief has all of the criminal law enforcement duties of the sheriff of St. Louis County, except for the operation of the St. Louis County Jail, which is handled by the St. Louis County Department of Justice Services (civilian), court bailiff and service of civil process. Court bailiff/civil process duties are provided by a court-appointed sheriff and his employees, none of whom have law enforcement powers. The St. Louis County Police Department is the Largest County police agency in Missouri, based on number of employees, county population, and geographic area served. This change in law enforcement services occurred in 1955, when the St. Louis County Charter was amended by the voters to restrict the duties of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. The position of elected sheriff was eliminated. St. Louis County is one of two counties in Missouri that does not have an elected sheriff. With the charter amendment, all law enforcement services were assigned to a new police agency, the St. Louis County Police Department. The department is primarily responsible for law enforcement and investigations within unincorporated St. Louis County and contract municipalities, however, it has full police authority throughout the county, including its 88 municipalities which are also served by 58 local police departments, some of them very small. Additionally, St. Louis County police officers are authorized to enforce Missouri law in all counties in the state having a government of the first classification, which includes the independent City of St. Louis. Deputy Chief Kenneth Gregory was appointed to the position of Chief of Police on January 28, 2022 by the St. Louis County Board of Police Commissioners.

The St. Louis County Law Library in Missouri was established in 1941 as a public law library under Missouri Statute. [1] It is located on the sixth floor of the Courts building in the St. Louis County Courthouse at 105 South Central in Clayton, Missouri. It operates as a public agency, independent of St. Louis County government. It is funded from a portion of the surcharge paid by parties to civil lawsuits in the 21st Judicial Circuit of the Missouri Circuit Courts. [2]

Clayton station is a St. Louis MetroLink station. This at-grade station is located in the median of Forest Park Parkway between South Central Avenue and South Meramec Avenue, and serves the Clayton Central Business District, the St. Louis County Government Complex and area residents. Public parking is available in the attached county garage. However, this parking is not supplied by Metro, therefore charges may apply.

University City–Big Bend station is a St. Louis MetroLink subway station. It serves the western portion of Washington University's main campus and the southern portion of University City, Missouri. Located at the intersection of Big Bend Boulevard and Forest Park Parkway, this station primarily serves passengers arriving on foot from the nearby university and surrounding neighborhoods. The station's entrances are clad in brick that matches neighboring buildings on Washington University's campus.

Francis Gymnasium is a building at Washington University in St. Louis, currently used by the university's athletics department. Built in 1903, it is located in St. Louis County, Missouri, on the far western edge of the university's Danforth Campus. It is part of the Washington University Hilltop Campus Historic District. Completed in time for 1904's Louisiana Purchase Exposition, the gymnasium was used as the main indoor venue for the 1904 Summer Olympics, hosting the boxing and fencing events.After the Olympics, the building was turned over to the Washington University Athletics Department. In the early 1920s, a field house and a swimming pool were built next to Francis Gym. In 1985, a major renovation connected Francis Gym and the renovated field house with additional facilities and recreation space, and replaced the pool with the Olympic-sized Millstone Pool.

Fontbonne University is a private Roman Catholic university in Clayton, Missouri. It enrolled 955 students in 2021. Fontbonne is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and it offers undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degree programs. Its athletic teams compete in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Francis Olympic Field is a stadium at Washington University in St. Louis that was used as the main venue for the 1904 Summer Olympics. It is currently used by the university's track and field, cross country, football, and soccer teams. It is located in St. Louis County, Missouri on the far western edge of the university's Danforth Campus. Built in time for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (1904 St. Louis World's Fair), the stadium once had a 19,000-person seating capacity, but stadium renovations in 1984 reduced the capacity to 3,300 people. It is one of the oldest sports venues west of the Mississippi River that is still in use. Francis Olympic Field now uses artificial turf that can be configured for both soccer and football. Known at its opening as World's Fair Stadium and then as Washington University Stadium or simply "the Stadium", the venue was renamed as Francis Field in October 1907 for David R. Francis, a former Missouri governor and president of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The word "Olympic" was added in 2019 to reflect its role in the 1904 Summer Olympics.
