Rock Creek Park Golf Course (also known as Rock Creek Golf Course) is a golf course located in Washington, D.C., in the United States. The entire course lies within Rock Creek Park, a national park owned and maintained by the National Park Service division of the United States Department of the Interior. The course is located at the intersection of 16th Street NW and Rittenhouse Street NW. The course is bordered by Military Road NW in the south, Rock Creek and Beach Drive NW on the west, Sherrill Drive NW on the north, and 16th Street NW in the east. Walter Reed Army Medical Center is immediately to the northwest. Rock Creek Park Golf Course is one of three golf courses in Washington, D.C., all of which are owned by the National Park Service. The other two are East Potomac Park Golf Course and Langston Golf Course.

The Joaquin Miller Cabin is an historic structure situated in Washington, DC's Rock Creek Park. Built by the American poet, essayist and fabulist Joaquin Miller, it represents the only known example of late 19th century Rustic-style log cabin in Washington, D.C. It is a Classified Structure within Rock Creek Park.

Building 40, Army Medical School is a Georgian revival structure in the Walter Reed Army Medical Center complex in northern Washington, D.C., United States. It was built between 1922 and 1932 to house the Army Medical School, which became the Army Medical Center in 1923 when it — under the name “Medical Department Professional Service School” (MDPSS) — combined with the Walter Reed General Hospital. The MDPSS ultimately became the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, which occupied Building 40 from 1953 to 1999. It comprises four wings, known as the Craig (1924), Sternberg and Vedder (1932), and Siler (1962) Pavilions and is situated at 14th and Dahlia Streets.

Rock Creek Park is a large urban park that bisects the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. The park was created by an Act of Congress in 1890 and today is administered by the National Park Service. In addition to the park proper, the Rock Creek administrative unit of the National Park Service administers various other federally owned properties in the District of Columbia located to the north and west of the National Mall, including Meridian Hill Park on 16th Street, N.W., the Old Stone House in Georgetown, and certain of the Fort Circle Parks, a series of batteries and forts encircling the District of Columbia for its defense during the U.S. Civil War.

Hawthorne is a neighborhood of 308 single family homes in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C. According to neighborhood lore, the subdivision was named for the hawthorn trees once abundant in the area. The neighborhood borders Montgomery County, Maryland, and is bounded by Pinehurst Tributary to the south, Western Avenue to the northwest, and Rock Creek Park to the east.This neighborhood was originally inhabited by wealthy African Americans, mostly doctors, lawyers, and professors. Most of these families were alumni and faculty of Howard University from 1969 to about 2005. Hawthorne is entirely residential, with no commercial zoning, and is occupied by 1940s-era large split-level and rambler houses on very large parcels. The neighborhood is suburban, separated from the roar of life in the nation's capital. The area is part of the Chevy Chase Citizens Association and residents consider themselves residents of Chevy Chase. The neighborhood is known for its abundance of mature trees and green space. Most of the neighborhood's housing stock was built in the 1940s. Ranch-style and split-level homes predominate, although there are some Colonial, Cape Cod, and modern-style homes.Hawthorne students are zoned to Lafayette Elementary School, Alice Deal Middle School, and Jackson-Reed High School.

St. John's College High School (SJC, SJCHS, or St. John's) is a Catholic high school in Washington, D.C.. Established in 1851, is the third oldest Christian Brothers school in the United States, and the oldest Army JROTC school. It was founded by Brother John of Mary, F.S.C., and two other Christian Brothers in St. Matthew's parish, at 15th and G Streets.

The 1973 Hanafi Muslim massacre took place on January 18, 1973. Two men and a boy were shot to death. Four other children ranging in age from nine days to ten years old were drowned. Two others were severely injured. The murders took place at 7700 16th Street NW, a Washington, D.C. house purchased for a group of Hanafi Muslims to use as the "Hanafi American Mussulman's Rifle and Pistol Club". The property was purchased and donated by then Milwaukee Bucks basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.The target of the attack was Hamaas Abdul Khaalis, the son-in-law of Reginald Hawkins. Khaalis had written and sent fifty letters calling Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad "guilty of 'fooling and deceiving people – robbing them of their money, and besides that dooming them to Hell.'" The letters were mailed to ministers of all fifty mosques of the Nation of Islam, a sect that Khaalis had infiltrated and in which he had been a leader in the 1950s. The letters were also critical of Wallace D. Fard and urged the ministers to leave the sect.

7700 16th Street NW, a private house in the Shepherd Park neighborhood of Washington, D.C., is the former home of the Hanafi Madh-Hab Center.In 1973 this house was the scene of the massacre of 7 Hanafi Muslims by members of the Nation of Islam. It was the largest murder that had ever been committed in Washington, D.C.The brick home continued to be the headquarters of the Hanafi group, and during the 1977 Washington, D.C. attack and hostage taking spokesman Abdul Azziz (35), son-in-law of the group's leader Hanafi Hamaas Abdul Khaalis, stood on the lawn and told journalists that, "Heads will be chopped off, a killing room will be set up at B'nai B'rith and heads will be thrown out of windows," unless all demands being made by armed hostage takers at a downtown office building were met.A plaque on the building in the 1970s read: Hanafi Madh-Hab Center.
