Walter Hurt Cargill House

The Bullard-Hart House in Columbus, Georgia was built during 1887-90 for Dr. William L. Bullard, Columbus physician and pioneer ear, eye, nose, and throat specialist. The house is a splendid example of Second Empire Victorian architecture. It was designed by architect L. E. Thornton of New York.The Bullard family lived here for 90 years. Their guests included President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Generals George Patton and George Marshall who dined on "Country Captain," a popular regional dish originated by the family cook, Arie Mullins. The house was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1977.It was painstakingly restored in 1978 by new owners, Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sampson.

The High Uptown Historic District, in Columbus, Georgia, is a 20 acres (8.1 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. The Garrett-Bullock House is a historic Queen Anne-style house in Columbus, Georgia. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It was owned by Joseph Garrett, owner of a Broad Street wholesale liquor-and tobacco business known as "Garrett & Sons", and became a boarding house.The Garrett-Bullock House may have been used as a special events center for weddings and parties. It is separately listed in the National Register and also included in the High Uptown Historic District.

Rankin House is a historic residence in Columbus, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 16, 1972. It is located at 1440 2nd Avenue. It is now home to a museum on the first floor and the Historic Columbus Foundation on the upper floor. The home was built for James Rankin, a planter and owner of The Rankin Hotel who came to Columbus from Ayrshire, Scotland. Construction of the home was interrupted by the American Civil War.The home includes iron grillwork, pine floors, marble mantels and a walnut double stairway. Period gaslight chandeliers are a highlight of the museum rooms. The music room boasts a rosewood piano of concert quality; a picture of Mr. Rankin, the home's original owner; and a Rankin family petticoat table and ornate gilt mirror. A piano forte is displayed in the south parlor. The home includes a utility staircase used by servants. It was an expensive home. The property's fencing is from the Broadway townhouse of General Henry Lewis Benning, the Confederate war hero for whom Fort Benning is named.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It is a two-story "large sprawling house with no distinguishable architectural style", with a two-story bay and a hipped roof with a dormer centered over its front entrance.It is located in what was once Columbus's elite "High Uptown" neighborhood, and was deemed "significant as it was the home of John Bleecker who was general manager of Columbus Railroad Company shortly after the turn of the century". It was later home of Robert E. Swift-Kyle House, also known as the Swift Mansion and Billings House, is a historic residence in Columbus, Georgia. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 11, 1973. It is located at 303 12th Street and 3rd Avenue. George Parker Swift and his daughter and son-in-law owned the mansion which dates from the antebellum period. It dates to 1857 and was remodeled after a roof fire in 1898 Adelaide and Hames P. Kyle also owned the home. It was a residence until 1956 and has also been used by the Columbus Travel Bureau.

The Thomas U. Butts House, at 1214 3rd Ave. in Columbus, Georgia, was built in 1896 and was extensively renovated into Prairie School style in 1928. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It is a two-story balloon frame house with a clay tile hipped roof and two exterior chimneys. Originally showing a weatherboarded exterior, the house's 1928 renovation covered the weatherboarding with brick laid in stretcher bond. It has a central entrance with a Classical Revival-styled porch.It was built for W. I. Struppa, a purser who lived there until 1904. It was sold in 1908 to Thomas Usher Butts, "a wizard of the lumber business", who raised his family there; descendants occupied the home until 1959.Its National Register listing was within a batch of numerous Columbus properties determined to be eligible consistent with a 1980 study of historic resources in Columbus.

The Building at 1619 Third Avenue in Columbus, Georgia is a Victorian shotgun cottage built around 1889 which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It was home to lower to middle income black workers in Columbus. By 1896 it was home to George W. Walls, a dyer for Eagle and Phenix Mills. By 1898 it was home for Mack Culver and his wife; Culver was a fireman for the Central of Georgia Railroad. By 1900 it was home of William Hines, another worker at Eagle and Phenix, and his wife Clara.Its front porch includes some gingerbreading attached to its chamfered columns as a nod by the builder to popular styles.Its National Register listing was within a batch of numerous Columbus properties determined to be eligible consistent with a 1980 study of historic resources in Columbus.

The Building at 1617 Third Avenue in Columbus, Georgia was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.Built around 1889, it is a Victorian shotgun cottage house, hence it is a one-story weatherboarded rectangular plan house upon a brick pier foundation. It has a hipped roof and a central chimney. Its porch, across the three-bay front facade, has chamfered columns with gingerbread brackets.Its National Register listing was within a batch of numerous Columbus properties determined to be eligible consistent with a 1980 study of historic resources in Columbus.

Broad Street Methodist Episcopal Church South ("Old" Broad Street Methodist Episcopal Church South) in Columbus, Georgia is a historic church built in 1873. It is one of the oldest buildings on Broadway (Columbus's main street) and is as the only Greek Revival church building surviving in Columbus. It has pilasters with corbelled brick capitals.It was added to the National Register in 1980.It was home of the Columbus Ledger newspaper from 1915 to 1931.It was listed on the National Register along with other historic properties identified in a large survey.

The Church of the Holy Family is a Catholic Church located in Downtown Columbus, Georgia that was built in 1880. The Catholic church in Columbus had outgrown its original church built in 1829. The church's architect/builder, Daniel Matthew Foley, had designed 16 other churches before coming to Columbus to design this church. It is the only Gothic Revival church in Columbus and "is an architectural as well as religious anchor point in the community."It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.It was listed on the National Register along with other historic properties identified in a large survey.
