The historic Duluth Public Library is a former Carnegie library building at 101 West Second Street in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. It was constructed in 1902 as the first purpose-built facility of the Duluth Public Library. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 for its local significance in the themes of architecture and education. It was nominated for its Neoclassical architecture and association with early community education efforts.Library services relocated to a new downtown facility in 1980, after which the historic library was renovated and converted into an office building.

Sacred Heart Cathedral, Sacred Heart School and Christian Brothers Home comprise a former Roman Catholic diocesan complex in the Central Hillside neighborhood of Duluth, Minnesota, United States. Sacred Heart Cathedral was built from 1894 to 1896 and served as the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Duluth until 1957, after which it became a parish church. Sacred Heart School was built in 1904 and the Christian Brothers Home—a monastic residence for the school faculty—was built in 1907.In 1985 the diocese merged the parish into another and sold off the Sacred Heart buildings. The cathedral is now the Sacred Heart Music Center, a performance and event venue. The school has been repurposed as the Damiano Center, an ecumenical provider of social services. The monastery is now Alicia's Place, which offers Section 8 housing for homeless women.The cathedral and school were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. In 2005 the listing was expanded to include the Christian Brothers Home. The complex was listed for its state-level significance in the themes of architecture and religion. It was nominated for its exemplary Late Gothic Revival cathedral designed by local architect Gearhard A. Tenbusch and for representing the historical seat of authority of the Diocese of Duluth and its educational efforts.

The Duluth Masonic Center is a historic Masonic Temple in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1905 and continues to be Duluth's primary venue for Freemasonry. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015 under the name Duluth Masonic Temple for its significance in the themes of art and social history. It was nominated for being the longstanding focal point of Duluth's most influential fraternal organization. It was also nominated for the Egyptian-style frieze and 80 hand-painted stage backdrops (the largest operable collection still in Minnesota) contained in its Scottish Rite auditorium.

Harbor City International School, also known as Harbor City or HCIS, is a charter secondary school in Duluth, Minnesota, United States, that opened in fall 2002. It serves students in grades nine through twelve. The school is governed by an eight-member board of directors.

Duluth Transportation Center (DTC) is a bus station in Duluth, Minnesota, served by urban transit, rural transit, and intercity buses. Duluth Transportation Center is the downtown hub for the Duluth transit system. Urban transit routes at the center are operated by Duluth Transit Authority, the third-largest transit operator in Minnesota. Regional rural transit is provided from the station by Arrowhead Transit. Intercity services are operated by Jefferson Lines.

The Duluth News Tribune (known locally as The Tribune or DNT) is a newspaper based in Duluth, Minnesota. While circulation is heaviest in the Twin Ports metropolitan area, delivery extends into northeastern Minnesota, northwestern Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The paper has a limited distribution in Thunder Bay, Ontario. The News Tribune has been owned by Forum Communications since 2006.

The Wirth Building is a commercial building in downtown Duluth, Minnesota, United States. When it was constructed in 1886 it was the city's first example of Richardsonian Romanesque style, and it stands as an early work of architect Oliver G. Traphagen. The Wirth Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991 for its local significance in the theme of architecture. It was nominated for being a leading local example of its architectural style and a key turning point in the career of an important Duluth-based architect.The building was commissioned by Max Wirth to house his pharmacy business. Wirth's brother George happened to be one of Minnesota's best-known architects at the time, and had just forged a partnership with his star employee Traphagen. Evidence is lacking to say which of the two partners might have been more responsible for the building, which was a stylistic departure for both. Shortly after the building was completed, Wirth moved back to his native Bavaria while Traphagen remained in Duluth and became its premier architect.

The Historic Old Central High School of Duluth, Minnesota, United States, is a local landmark dating to 1892. One of Minnesota's leading examples of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture, it occupies an entire city block and sports a 210-foot (64 m) clock tower. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as Duluth Central High School in 1972 for its state-level significance in the theme of architecture.

Duluth Central High School, also known as Central High School, was a secondary school located in Duluth, Minnesota, which educated students in grades ten through twelve until seventh and eighth were added after the closing of Washington Junior High School in 1992. It first opened in 1893 in the original building at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Second Street. The building was officially named Historic Old Central High School on October 19, 2004.In 1971, the new Central High School building was built on top of the hill near the intersection of Central Entrance and Pecan Avenue. This Duluth Central High School closed at the end of the 2010–2011 school year.

The downtown area is easily accessible from Interstate Highway 35. Most of the downtown is within walking distance of the touristy Canal Park district. Five blocks along Superior Street and seven blocks along 1st Street West have been designated the Duluth Commercial Historic District, with 87 contributing properties built between 1872 and 1929. It was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006 for its state-level significance in the themes of architecture and commerce. It was nominated for representing Duluth's commercial development and popular architectural styles at the turn of the 20th century.

The Duluth Civic Center Historic District is a historic government complex in Duluth, Minnesota, United States. It includes the St. Louis County Courthouse, Duluth City Hall, and the Gerald W. Heaney Federal Building. The complex was designed by urban planning pioneer Daniel Burnham in 1909 and constructed over the next twenty years. It was listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986 for its state-level significance in the themes of architecture and community planning and development. It was nominated for its associations with Burnham and the City Beautiful movement.The Duluth Civic Center Historic District comprises five contributing properties. The Saint Louis County Courthouse, completed in 1909, was designed by Daniel Burnham & Co. as the focal point of the complex. In front of it stands a monument to Duluth veterans who died in service overseas. It was designed by Cass Gilbert and installed around 1921. The St. Louis County Jail, designed by Holstead & Sullivan, was added in 1923. Duluth City Hall was designed by the local architectural firm of Shefchik & Olsen and built in 1928. The Federal Building was constructed in 1929.A fountain was installed in front of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the late 1960s. An act of Congress officially named the Federal Building for former District Court judge Gerald Heaney in 2007.

The North Shore Scenic Railroad (reporting mark NSSR) is a heritage railroad that operates between Duluth and Two Harbors, Minnesota, United States, along 28 miles (45 km) of the Lakefront Line, once part of the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railroad. Owned by the Lake Superior Railroad Museum, the NSSR operates out of the former Duluth Union Depot, now the St. Louis County Depot. Ridership hit 110,000 in 2018, the railroad's record.
