The St. Petersburg Institute for Informatics and Automation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SPIIRAS) (Russian: Санкт-Петербургский институт информатики и автоматизации Российской академии наук) is a federal state budgetary institution of science located in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was founded on December 19, 1977 by a Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. The official foundation date is January 19, 1978, according to a Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences. The main research fields of the institute are computer science, intelligent automation systems and information technologies. The Institute is located in the building of the former gymnasium of K. May, built in 1909–1910 by G.D. Grimm. The current director of the institute is Rafael Midhatovich Yusupov.

Vasilyevsky Island (Russian: Васи́льевский о́стров, Vasilyevsky Ostrov, V.O.) is an island in St. Petersburg, Russia, bordered by the Bolshaya Neva and Malaya Neva Rivers (in the delta of the Neva River) in the south and northeast, and by Neva Bay of the Gulf of Finland in the west. Vasilyevsky Island is separated from Dekabristov Island by the Smolenka River. Together they form the territory of Vasileostrovsky District, an administrative division of Saint Petersburg. Situated just across the river from the Winter Palace, it constitutes a large portion of the city's historic center. Two of the most famous St. Petersburg bridges, Palace Bridge and Blagoveshchensky Bridge, connect it with the mainland to the south. The Exchange Bridge and Tuchkov Bridge across the Malaya Neva connect it with Petrogradsky Island. Vasilyevsky Island is served by Vasileostrovskaya and Primorskaya stations of Saint Petersburg Metro (Line 3 ). There are plans to build new Metro stations on Vasilyevsky Island by extending Line 4 (the Orange Line) to the Island. In addition, the island is serviced by bus routes and tramway lines.

Deutsche Schule Sankt Petersburg (DSP) is a German international school in St. Petersburg, Russia. As of 2010 it serves levels Vorschule (preschool) through grade 10, with plans to expand to grade 12 and the Abitur. The German government and the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad support the school, which was founded in September 2009.

The Museum of Electrical Transport is located on Vasilyevsky Island in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The Bestuzhev Courses (Russian: Бестужевские курсы) in Saint Petersburg were the largest and most prominent women's higher education institution in Imperial Russia. The institute opened its doors in 1878. It was named after Konstantin Bestuzhev-Ryumin, the first director. However, the lead organizing force was provided by Nadezhda Stasova, Anna Filosofova, and several other women. Other professors included Baudouin de Courtenay, Alexander Borodin, Faddei Zielinski, Dmitry Mendeleyev, Ivan Sechenov, and Sergey Platonov. An assistant professor there was Vera Bogdanovskaya, the first female chemist to die as a result of her own research. Nadezhda Krupskaya and Maria Piłsudska were among the graduates. The courses occupied a purpose-built edifice on Vasilievsky Island. After the Russian Revolution, they were reorganized as the Third University of Petrograd, which was merged into the Petrograd University in September 1919.

Vasilyevsky Municipal Okrug (Russian: муниципа́льный о́круг Васи́льевский) is a municipal okrug in Vasileostrovsky District, one of the eighty-one low-level municipal divisions of the federal city of St. Petersburg, Russia. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 32,236, down from 32,793 recorded during the 2002 Census.Until May 2008 it was known as Municipal Okrug #8 (муниципальный округ №8). In 2020 this district was one of the locations (along with Ostankino Tower, RKA Mission Control Center, Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, and at least one Aeroflot flight) that were the subject of a bioterrorism threat posted by group of hackers including those with names of "Thomas Little Evil Utoyo", "Calton", "David Law", "Thanthom", "Hendy", "Gideon W", "Audentis", "Mister Eriee O", "Khengwin", "T-Zehang", "曾家顺", "Mr Castaigne", "kkkwan", "ronxi", "KC LING", "Le3p0ryuen", "Jayrulo", "S Teoh", "Ian Chew", "Mr Yiliang", "W. somboonsuk", "S Patcharaphon", "Victor pang", "jiangxin", "文_祥!", "Freddyisf0xy", "Masami", "Greg Galloway", "EncoreOngKai", "Alteredd State", "Dig Dejected", Elmo Chong" and "Krully" onto various websites and Twitter feeds.

Vasileostrovsky tram depot is the oldest tram depot in Saint Petersburg. It was built in 1906 - 1908 by Westinghouse Electric. Vasileostrovsky trampark is a shrine for citizens, because it is associated with the unprecedented feat of Leningrad during World War II against Nazi Germany. Today the Museum of electrical transport is located there.

The Faculty of Law at Saint Petersburg State University is the oldest law school and one of the biggest research centers in Russia.

Betancourt Bridge (Russian: Мост Бетанку́ра, Most Betankura) is a non-bascule 6-lane bridge with a cycle path in Saint Petersburg that opened in 2018. The bridge crosses the Little Neva and the Zhdanovka rivers, passing Petrovsky and Sernyy island, and connects the Vasilyevsky and Petrogradsky islands. The bridge is part of the Centre Transport Bypass (CTB), it allows non-stop traffic from Pulkovo Airport to the Krestovsky Stadium. First ideas to construct a bridge across appeared as early as in the 1980s. Since that time the design was changed significantly, instead of the straight lay the bridge became S-shaped in order to avoid the ‘Almaz’ military shipyard that was located on the bank of the Little Neva. However, the production was closed before the actual construction of the bridge even started. It is named in honor of Agustín de Betancourt, a prominent engineer of Spanish origin, who worked on many architectural structures in Saint Petersburg.The construction of the Betancourt bridge was followed by a series of city-planning scandals; several historical residential buildings were demolished under forged documents and fraudulent commissions. The bridge was opened to traffic on May 13, 2018, however the works were still in process. The official commissioning permit of Rostechnadzor was issued only on March 26, 2019. The project of the Betancourt bridge received several architectural awards for innovative design and technologies. However, critics point out its winding S-shaped route fails to comply with city roads safety regulations, the turns to road interchanges are very sharp. 6 lanes of the bridge stuck into 3-4 laned city streets provoking bottleneck traffic jams.

The Smolenskoye Cemetery (in German Smolensker Friedhof) is a Lutheran cemetery on Dekabristov Island in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It is one of the largest and oldest non-orthodox cemeteries in the city. Until the early 20th century it was one of the main burial grounds for ethnic Germans.

St. Petersburg State Institute of Psychology and Social Work (SPbGIPSR, Russian: Санкт-Петербургский государственный институт психологии и социальной работы, СПбГИПСР) is the only Russian state higher education institution of psychological and social profile in the Northwestern Federal District.
