Great Marsh

The Rowley River is a small river between Ipswich and Rowley, Massachusetts. The river lies within the estuary of Plum Island Sound, and is formed by the confluence of the Egypt River and Muddy Run in Ipswich, with numerous tributaries in the estuary. The river and a few smaller coastal streams together drain about 15 square miles (39 km2) of watershed. Rowley River is navigable for small craft, and home to bass, shad and alewives. Its banks are lined with tidal salt marshes, and abound in clams. Today the river is popular for kayaking and lobstering.

Holy Island is a marshy island located off the northeast coast of Massachusetts, north of Cape Ann. The island is situated immediately west of Plum Island and is part of the Town of Ipswich in Essex County. The Rowley River runs by the island, which is the northernmost of four marshy islands.

The Roger Island River is a small tidal estuary between Ipswich and Rowley, Massachusetts. It is a southern branch of the larger Rowley River passing around Roger Island. Roger Island River is navigable for small craft, and home to bass, shad, and alewives. Its banks are lined with tidal salt marshes and abound in clams. Today the river is popular for kayaking.

Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife sanctuary encompassing the majority of Plum Island in northeastern Essex County, Massachusetts, 5 miles southeast of Newburyport. It was established in 1942 primarily to provide feeding, resting, and nesting habitats for migratory birds. Located along the Atlantic Flyway, the refuge is of vital stopover significance to waterfowl, shorebirds, and songbirds during migratory periods. In 1985, The Trust for Public Land added 12 acres to the refuge. Besides providing habitat for birds and wildlife, the pristine coastal habitat is enjoyed by visitors who come to swim, hike, surf, fish, and birdwatch.

Dole Island is an island located in the Parker River in Newbury, Massachusetts. The Parker River National Wildlife Refuge is located on it.

Grape Island, sometimes known as Grape Island, Ipswich, is a part of Plum Island, in Ipswich, Massachusetts, in the United States. For nearly two centuries, Grape Island was a small, but thriving community of fishermen, farmers, and clam diggers, until the land was purchased by the US Government and turned into a wildlife refuge in the middle of the 20th century. Its last resident was Lewis Kilborn, who lived his entire life on the island until his death in 1984.

Plum Island is a barrier island located off the northeast coast of Massachusetts, north of Cape Ann, in the United States. It is approximately 11 miles (18 km) in length. The island is named for the wild beach plum shrubs that grow on its dunes, but is also famous for the purple sands at high tide, which get their color from tiny crystals of pink pyrope garnet. It is located in parts of four municipalities in Essex County. From north to south they are the city of Newburyport, and the towns of Newbury, Rowley, and Ipswich.

The Ross Tavern is a historic building in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Now a private residence, the building was moved to its present site from central Ipswich (adjacent to the Choate Bridge) in 1940, and carefully restored to a First Period appearance. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.The building has a complicated history, in part because it includes parts of two different structures. A house was built c. 1680 in downtown Ipswich, and moved near the Choate Bridge in 1735. This house, known as the Ross Tavern, remained at that site until it was disassembled and moved to Jeffrey's Neck by Daniel Stone Wendel, an amateur architectural historian, in 1940. Wendel was the son of local American Impressionist Artist Theodore Wendel. Nothing is known of its original owners. Wendel joined the tavern to a second house, the c. 1675–1700 Lord-Collins House, that he also moved to the site. This house is one of a very few First Period homes to provide evidence of a transom window.

The Dole–Little House is a historic house at 289 High Road, Newbury, Massachusetts. It is now a non-profit museum operated by Historic New England and open to the public, for a fee, at rare intervals. Private tours can also be arranged. The original house was built around 1715 with materials salvaged from an earlier structure (perhaps c. 1670) for Richard Dole, a cattleman. It was built a two-room, central-chimney construction with a small kitchen shed at the rear. This shed has since been replaced with a larger lean-to. In 1954 the house was acquired by Florence Evans Bushee and restored to reflect its original period. During restoration, the lean-to was removed and reconstructed with new timbers, and a small-paned sash from the front of the house was moved to the lean-to. The paneling from one chamber was installed as an exhibition room at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C.; a copy replaces it in the original chamber. Historic New England received the title to the house after Mrs. Bushee's death in 1975.

Rowley station is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Rowley, Massachusetts. It is the penultimate station on the Newburyport branch of the Newburyport/Rockport Line.
