The Village, East Kilbride

East Kilbride (; Scottish Gaelic: Cille Bhrìghde an Ear [ˈkʲʰiʎə ˈvɾʲiːtʲə əɲ ˈɛɾ]) is the largest town in South Lanarkshire in Scotland, and the country's sixth-largest locality by population. It was also designated Scotland's first new town on 6 May 1947. The area lies on a raised plateau to the south of the Cathkin Braes, about eight miles (thirteen kilometres) southeast of Glasgow and close to the boundary with East Renfrewshire. The town ends close to the White Cart Water to the west and is bounded by the Rotten Calder Water to the east. Immediately to the north of the modern town centre is The Village, the part of East Kilbride that existed before its post-war development into a New Town. East Kilbride is twinned with the town of Ballerup, in Denmark.

East Kilbride Civic Centre is a municipal building in Cornwall Street, East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The structure was the headquarters of East Kilbride District Council.

East Kilbride Thistle Football Club are a Scottish football club, based in the town of East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire near Glasgow. Nicknamed The Jags, they were formed in 1968 and play at the Showpark, situated in the Village area of the town. Currently playing in the West of Scotland League Fourth Division. They wear all black; their change strips are all red, or white tops with red or black shorts.

EK, East Kilbride (previously East Kilbride Shopping Centre) is located in the town centre of East Kilbride and is Scotland's biggest undercover shopping centre.

East Mains is an area of the Scottish new town East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. It lies to the north of the town centre and the Village, between West Mains and Calderwood. East Mains is a large residential area, and also the site of the East Kilbride Arts Centre which holds local exhibitions, art classes and hosts showings of music, theatre and arthouse films. The majority of houses in East Mains were constructed for workers at Rolls-Royce, one of the town's main employers. East Mains is home to East Kilbride's oldest surviving house, Rose Mound. Believed to have been constructed in the early 1640s, the house is now owned by a private company who intend to renovate it and transform its grounds into Residential Flats for the Aged.

East Kilbride railway station serves the town of East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and it is a terminus on the former Busby Railway. The station is 11+1⁄2 miles (18.5 km) southeast of Glasgow Central.

West Mains is an area of East Kilbride in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. A residential area in the northwest of the town, West Mains borders College Milton (an industrial estate), the Village, Stewartfield and East Mains. The southern boundary is the Queensway (A726) bypass road, with the neighbourhoods of Westwood and The Murray on the opposite side connected via a pedestrian footbridge and an underpass respectively. East Kilbride railway station falls under the district, and some streets are within walking distance of the town centre. Prior to its development as part of East Kilbride new town in the 1950s, the area was farmland. The oldest houses in the neighbourhood are on Dryburgh Hill (previously associated with Kirkton Mains Holme farm) and Creighton Grove (once Brousterland Farm).There are two primary schools in the area - Kirktonholme and St Kenneth's; both were rebuilt between 2009 and 2010 as part of the local authority's programme. There is a specialised Additional Support Needs facility named West Mains School, but since 2017 its campus has been in East Mains. The local church (aligned with the Free Church of Scotland) is located on Blacklands Road.

St Bride's Roman Catholic Church is located in East Kilbride in Scotland. It was designed by the architects Gillespie, Kidd and Coia and built between 1957 and 1964.

St Andrew's and St Bride's High School is a Roman Catholic school in East Kilbride, Scotland. The current head teacher is Fiona Mullen. The school opened in 2007, and as of October 2020, had a roll of 1,523 pupils. The new buildings are adjacent to St Bride's Roman Catholic church, built in 1964 by Gillespie, Kidd & Coia. The school and church fall under the Diocese of Motherwell.

The Murray is a residential area in the new town of East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland; it lies immediately to the south-west of the town centre (access for pedestrians is mainly via underpasses beneath the A726 Queensway), and adjacent to the Westwood, Greenhills and Whitehills neighbourhoods to the west, south-west and south-east respectively. The Murray was the first new town development in the area and as such contains the oldest council housing in the town. However, much of this is currently undergoing renovation to improve its condition. Much of the original housing was paid for by Rolls-Royce, as it was intended as accommodation for the workers attracted to the town by the firm's factory. Among the first generation of children to live there was the actor John Hannah. Like the other original neighbourhoods in East Kilbride, it contains a mix of flats in cuboid-shaped buildings and more traditional tenements individual houses in terraces and semi-detached pairs and three tower blocks on the northern periperhy close to the town centre, with basic recreational facilities and a 'village square' of local shops and amenities.Most of the streets in the area are named for prominent Scots, such as: - Livingstone Drive (David Livingstone, Christian medical missionary 1813–1873) - Owen Avenue (Robert Dale Owen, Scottish-born U.S. social reformer and anti-slavery campaigner 1801–1877) - Bell Green (Alexander Graham Bell, 1847–1922) - Telford Road (Thomas Telford, engineer and noted bridge builder 1757–1834) - Liddell Grove (Eric Henry Liddell, record-breaking athlete who won Gold and bronze medals in the 1924 Paris Olympic Games 1902–1945) - Dale Avenue (David Dale, Businessman and Merchant famous for establishing the New Lanark Mills 1739–1806) - Slessor Drive (Mary Slessor, Missionary and advocate of woman's rights 1848 1915) - Simpson Drive (James Young Simpson, doctor and important figure in early anesthesia 1811–1870) Many people dispute whether to use the definite article in the name; however, it is labelled as 'The Murray' on most maps.

Calderwood is a neighbourhood of the Scottish new town of East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire. It lies on its north-east edge and is one of the largest areas of the town.
