Newquay Bay

The Great Western Hotel is the oldest purpose-built hotel in Newquay, Cornwall. The hotel was originally designed by the Cornish architect Silvanus Trevail and first opened in April 1879. The hotel is built in a prominent position overlooking Great Western Beach. The hotel has 66 rooms, some with sea-views.

The station is situated in the heart of Newquay, close to the town centre itself and the beaches. The station is managed by Great Western Railway which operates local branch line services to and from Par. In the summer, there are also services to and from London.

The Penhallow Hotel fire was a suspected arson attack that occurred in Newquay, Cornwall on 18 August 2007. Three people were killed and it was reported as the worst hotel fire in the United Kingdom in nearly 40 years. The hotel was a well-known hotel for holiday makers ranging from families to older residents. It had been built in Island Crescent between 1912 and 1917, and had been altered more than once. The building had a wooden fire escape at the rear, and a central light shaft running from the ground floor up to the roof in the centre of the hotel. Both of these aspects of the building played a dramatic role in the outcome of the fire. Many of those that escaped the fire were elderly holiday makers.Police at the time concluded that the fire must have been started by an intentional act. However the inquest returned open verdicts as the coroner said there was insufficient evidence to rule the victims were unlawfully killed. A link has been suggested between the fire and Karen Pedley, a serial arsonist at large in Cornwall at the time.The remainder of the building was demolished, and the land has since been redeveloped as modern apartments.

Newquay ( NEW-kee; Standard Written Form: Tewynblustri) is a town on the north coast in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is a civil parish, seaside resort, regional centre for aerospace industries with a spaceport, and a fishing port on the North Atlantic coast of Cornwall, approximately 12 miles (19 km) north of Truro and 20 miles (32 km) west of Bodmin.The town is bounded to the south by the River Gannel and its associated salt marsh, and to the north-east by the Porth Valley. The western edge of the town meets the Atlantic at Fistral Bay. The town has been expanding inland (south) since the former fishing village of New Quay began to grow in the second half of the nineteenth century. In 2001, the census recorded a permanent population of 19,562, increasing to 20,342 at the 2011 census and 23,600 in 2021. Recent estimates suggest that the total population for the wider Newquay area (Newquay and St Columb Community Network Area) was 27,682 in 2017, projected to rise to 33,463 by 2025.

The Newquay Parish church of St Michael the Archangel, (also known as St Michael's Church) is located in Newquay, Cornwall, England, United Kingdom, and is dedicated to the St. Michael the Archangel. Since 1951 the church has been designated as a Grade II* listed building. It is an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Truro, the archdeaconry of Cornwall and the deanery of Pydar.The Benefice of Towan Blystra formed in 2022 which brings together the churches of St. Michael's Church, St Columb Minor & Colan, and St Newlyn East.

The Huer's Hut is a listed building in Newquay, Cornwall, England. It may date from the 14th century and have originally seen use as a hermitage and lighthouse. By the 16th century it was used as a lookout point for the seasonal arrival of pilchards in the bay. A man known as a huer would signal the arrival of the pilchards and direct fishermen towards them. The structure was in the ownership of Cornwall Council and was subject to restoration work in 2014. It is now on a lifelong lease to Newquay Town Council.

Lusty Glaze (Cornish: Lostyn Glas, meaning "a place to view blue boats") also known as Lusty Glaze Beach, is a beach in Newquay, Cornwall. Lusty Glaze is privately owned, notably to the low watermark. For much of the year, the beach is open, free of charge to the public. The only access to the beach is via 133 steps. For many years the current owner operated the UK's first dedicated Rescue Training Centre and Outdoor Activity Centre. Today, Lusty Glaze hosts a wide variety of weddings and events, offers accommodation in the original beach cottage, constructed in 1921 and a range of beach cabins or pods. The cove is naturally sheltered by high cliffs. The current owner, Tracey Griffiths, purchased the site in 1999.Lusty Glaze is home to a thriving Surf Lifesaving club. It was the southern terminus of the abortive St Columb Canal, parts of which were built in the 1770s, and although the southern section was probably never used, the remains of the inclined plane that connected the beach to the canal on the cliff top 100 feet (30 m) above are still clearly visible.

Newquay Zoo is a zoological garden located within Trenance Leisure Park in Newquay, England. The zoo was opened in Cornwall on Whit Monday, 26 May 1969 by the local council (Newquay Urban District Council, later Restormel District Council). It was privately owned by Mike Thomas and Roger Martin from 1993 until 2003. In August 2003 Stewart Muir became the new Director and the zoo became part of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, alongside Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts. The zoo is part of a registered charity, and was awarded various South West and Cornwall 'Visitor Attraction of The Year' and 'Sustainable Tourism' awards for excellence in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Newquay Zoo is now run as part of the Wild Planet Trust, the new name for the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust.

Newquay Association Football Club is a football club based in Newquay, Cornwall, England. Nicknamed "The Peppermints", they are currently members of the South West Peninsula League Premier Division West and play at Mount Wise Stadium.

Trevelgue Head, also known as Porth Island, is a headland north-east of Newquay, Cornwall, England, next to Porth at the eastern end of Newquay Bay. It is the site of an Iron Age promontory fort with defensive ramparts and two round barrows dating from the early Bronze Age.
