Schwabach station

Schwabach (German pronunciation: [ˈʃvaːbax] (listen)) is a German city of about 40,000 inhabitants near Nuremberg in the centre of the region of Franconia in the north of Bavaria. The city is an autonomous administrative district (kreisfreie Stadt). Schwabach is also the name of the river which runs through the city prior to joining the Rednitz. Schwabach is famous for its crafts made of gold, particularly gold foil. In 2004, Schwabach celebrated this tradition with an anniversary festival, marking "500 years gold foil in Schwabach". Around 1500, a local typesetter developed the "Schwabacher" font. This font was used for printing the first Bible in German, which had been worked out by Martin Luther.

Katzwang, formerly a separate municipality, has been a part of Nuremberg in Bavaria, Germany, since 1 July 1972. It is located on a ford across the Rednitz river, in the south of the city (approx. 8 km away from the center). The village was mentioned for the first time in the year 1152. It belonged at that point to Ellwangen Abbey, which sold it to Ebrach Abbey in 1296. The church of Saint Mary still contains medieval work, in particular the ossuary (German: "Karner") and the walls of the churchyard. The Rhine-Main-Danube canal, a navigable waterway linking the Main and Danube rivers, passes to the north of Katzwang. On 26 March 1979, while still under construction, the canal burst its banks close to Katzwang and flooded the village, killing a 12-year-old girl and causing widespread property damage.

Aurach (German pronunciation: [ˈaʊ̯ʁax] (listen)) is a river in the Bavarian Landkreise (districts) of Ansbach and Roth, Germany. The name means "river, where the Aurochs' graze" (Old High German ūr = Auerochs and aha = flowing water). The Aurach originates about 1 kilometre (0.6 mi) west of Petersaurach, Middle Franconia at an altitude of 452 metres (1,483 ft) above sea level. It flows almost 32 kilometres (20 mi) eastward until it flows into the Rednitz. On its way, it passes the villages of Aich (Neuendettelsau, Bertholdsdorf (Windsbach) Veitsaurach (Windsbach), Barthelmesaurach (Kammerstein), Gauchsdorf (Büchenbach and Rothaurach (Roth). Downwards of Götzenreuth (Büchenbach), it is the receiving water of the southern flank of the Heidenberg. It flows to the northern edge of Roth at 325 metres (1,066 ft) above sea level from the left into the Rednitz. Like most of the western tributaries of the Rednitz, the Aurach has a small slope and a small runoff as well as sand structures in the waterfront and in the waters of the river. In the past, the Aurach drove a mill about every two miles. These were for example the Hammerschmiede, Geichsenmühle, Mausenmühle, Steinmühle, Buckenmühle, Hasenmühle, Neumühle, and Hebresmühle as well as those at Gauchsdorf and Rothaurach and the Lohmühle near Roth. Today, the hydropower of Aurach has lost its importance. At Petersaurach, Mausendorf, Veitsaurach, Barthelmesaurach, Götzenreuth, Breitenlohe, Aurau, and Rothaurach, the Aurach takes up the purified sewage water from the respective purification plants. The majority of the course of the river Aurach in the district of Roth is located in the landscape protection area No. 00428.01.

Roth is a Landkreis (district) in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It is bounded by (from the northeast and clockwise) the districts of Nürnberger Land, Neumarkt, Eichstätt, Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen, Ansbach and Fürth, and the cities of Schwabach and Nürnberg. In medieval times the area was ruled by many lords. Brandenburg-Ansbach and Nuremberg owned possessions in the territory, and other parts were the property of clerical states. When these clerical states were dissolved in 1803, the territory fell to Bavaria. The district was established in 1972 through the merger of the former districts of Roth, Schwabach and Hilpoltstein.
