Walkergate is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving Walkergate, Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 14 November 1982, following the opening of the fourth phase of the network, between Tynemouth and St James via Wallsend.

Benfield School is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Walkergate, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. Its pupils come from a large area of Newcastle's east end including Byker, Heaton, Walker, Walkergate and Walkerville. Benfield was opened in 1967 as one of the first purpose-built comprehensive schools in England, and over the years has built up a reputation as a sports college. The school is also the North of England gymnastics centre and has all-weather floodlit football, rugby and basketball pitches, badminton courts along with ordinary pitches, tennis courts, a gym and a recently renovated swimming pool. Previously a foundation school administered by Newcastle City Council, in May 2017 Benfield School converted to academy status. The school is now sponsored by the NEAT Academy Trust.

Walkergate is an area and electoral ward in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is in the east of the city, north of Walker proper, east of the Heaton area and west of Wallsend. Areas within the Walkergate ward include Daisy Hill, Eastfield, Walkerdene and Walkerville. Walkergate Metro station which was opened in 1982 serves the area. This replaced the previous railway station on the same site which was originally known as Walker station from 1839 to 1889 when it was renamed Walker Gate station.Walkergate Hospital was built in 1888 originally as a hospital for Infectious Diseases - scarlet fever, diphtheria, typhoid, tuberculosis and later, polio. The architect was A.B. Gibson. The hospital was closed in 2011. In 2012 the Benfield Park Healthcare and Diagnostic Centre was opened on the site of the old Walkergate Hospital. The centre offers GP services, hospital clinics and a pharmacy.Schools within the Walkergate ward area include Walkergate Primary School, Benfield School and Walker Riverside Academy.At the 2001 census, there were 9,745 people in Walkergate, reducing to 9,463 at the 2011 Census, making up 3.8% of the city's population.

South Heaton was a ward of Newcastle City Council in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It covers the southern part of the Heaton district, and some north eastern parts of neighbouring Byker. It was abolished in 2018 and replaced by a new ward named Heaton. The population of the ward taken at the 2011 Census was 9,964.

Chillingham Road is a station on the Tyne and Wear Metro network, serving the suburbs of Byker and Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 14 November 1982, following the opening of the fourth phase of the network, between Tynemouth and St James via Wallsend. The station is located adjacent to Heaton Traction Maintenance Depot.

Newcastle Stadium is a greyhound racing and motorcycle speedway stadium, located on The Fossway, Byker, Newcastle. Racing at the stadium takes place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The circumference of the track is 415 metres. Speedway racing takes place from March to October. The stadium used to be known as Brough Park until it changed its name to Newcastle Stadium and is now owned by the Arena Racing Company.

Milecastle 2 (Walker) was a milecastle of the Roman Hadrian's Wall. No remains are currently visible, having been built over, but its probable location is at or near the junction of the A187 Fossway and Tunstall Avenue, in the parish of Wallsend.

The official website of The Wills BuildingThe Wills Building is a well-known landmark in Newcastle upon Tyne. It was built in the Art Deco style as a cigarette factory in the late 1940s for W. D. & H. O. Wills. It is situated on the New Coast Road from Newcastle upon Tyne to the Billy Mill roundabout in North Shields, and overlooks the Wallsend golf course. It was originally built with the office block facing onto the New Coast Road with the factory itself forming the wings and rear of the building, making the whole factory complex into a pair of quadrangles. The complex included a theatre and leisure facilities for the staff. After the factory closed in 1986 it stood empty for a number of years. During this period it was a sad sight with windows smashed by vandals, but the front section of the building could not be demolished, having gained Grade II listed status in November 1986. Many local people thought it should be redeveloped and various schemes were put forward, including conversion into a hotel, but none of these came to fruition. The rear sections of the factory complex were demolished at around this time as the buildings were too impregnated with nicotine to be cost-effectively restored. The main building was converted into luxury residential apartments by George Wimpey, with its exterior and stonework carefully restored. It was officially reopened as The Wills Building in November 1999. Modern housing was built on the brownfield land to the rear. The Wills Building is featured in "Newcastle + Gateshead Architecture And Heritage" by Faulkner, Beacock and Jones (page 286, ISBN 1-904438-29-6). One feature of the conversion from factory to apartments was the use of blue tinted glass, as can be seen in the photograph, for the windows facing south looking over the New Coast Road, helping to reduce the solar gain of the large windows. Another notable feature of the conversion was the excellence of the soundproofing between the flats.

Heaton is a district and suburb in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, 2 miles (3 km) east of the city centre. It is bordered by the neighbouring areas of Walkergate to the east, Jesmond to the north west, Byker to the south, and Sandyford to the west. The name Heaton means high town, referring to the area "being situated on hills above the Ouseburn, a tributary of the River Tyne." The area is divided into South Heaton, and High Heaton, representing the north, respectively. For city council elections, the area is split between three wards: Heaton, Manor Park and Ouseburn.

Cochrane Park, located at Newcastle upon Tyne, England, is the principal competitive venue for football, rugby and cricket at Newcastle University. It is named after Sir Cecil Cochrane who donated 20 acres of land to the university. It has three county standard football pitches, three county standard rugby pitches, a cricket square, a lacrosse pitch and five tennis courts. The site also offers a pavilion with team changing facilities, function suite and bar facilities. Newcastle University was an official Games-Time Training Venue for the London 2012 Olympic Games, and the University's Cochrane Park sports ground was a dedicated football training venue for the Games in July 2012.The area around the Cochrane Park sports ground is also widely known as Cochrane Park and is home to Newcastle University's residential facility called Henderson Hall and the Coach Lane Campus of Northumbria University and Roy Haygarth. It consists of many streets such as Felixstowe Drive, Cochrane Park Avenue, Bretton Gardens and Vancouver Drive, opposite the Lochside Public House. It is known as a middle class area. It borders High Heaton, and has local walkways which link it to Paddy Freemans Park and Victoria Glade Park.
