Misilmeri (Sicilian: Musulumeli) is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, Sicily. It is approximately 15 kilometres (9 mi) from Palermo and its name means "the resting place or the messuage of the Emir", and dates from the Muslim emirate of Sicily. The village rose around a castle (today known as Castello dell'Emiro, or "Castle of the Emir") founded by emir Jafar II (998–1019). In 1068 the Battle of Misilmeri was fought between the Normans and Arabs Misilmeri is located in the Eleuterio Valley on the southern slopes of Montagna Grande. It is the birthplace of the magistrate Rocco Chinnici.

Villabate (Sicilian: Villabbati) is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Palermo in the Italian region Sicily, located about 8 kilometres (5 mi) southeast of Palermo. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 19,441 and an area of 3.8 square kilometres (1.5 sq mi).Villabate borders the following municipalities: Ficarazzi, Misilmeri, Palermo.

Ficarazzi is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Palermo in the Italian region of Sicily, located about 10 kilometres (6 mi) southeast of Palermo. Ficarazzi borders the following municipalities: Bagheria, Misilmeri, Palermo, Villabate.

The Maredolce Castle (Italian: Castello di Maredolce), also called Favara Palace (Italian: Palazzo della Favara), is a medieval building of Palermo. During the Siculo-Norman age it represented one of the "Solatii Regii" of the Kings of Sicily in the capital city. It is located within Favara Park, in the neighbourhood of Brancaccio.

Brancaccio is the 12th district of Palermo, in Sicily, Italy. It is located in the south-eastern outskirts of the city and is included in the 2nd municipal division. The area of the district appears today as densely urbanized, despite the fact that in the past it was a particularly flourishing countryside due to the numerous underground waterways. From the 13th century, the vast suburban area where the current district arose was generally called "Contrada Cassarorum". In the 17th century, the aristocracy chose this countryside area for the establishments of resorts. The residential settlements built after World War II have occupied a significant part of the countryside. Brancaccio became known in contemporary times for the murder of Father Pino Puglisi, local parish priest and Antimafia activist who spoke out against Cosa Nostra (the Sicilian Mafia) and attempted to save numerous young persons from being recruited by the clans. He was killed on September 15, 1993 on the order of the local Mafia bosses, the brothers Filippo and Giuseppe Graviano.

San Giovanni dei Lebbrosi is an ancient church in Palermo, Sicily. While built by the Norman rulers, the architecture has strong Arabic influences. The church in 1119 was attached to a leprosarium, hence the title. The church was dedicated to St John the Baptist. The adjacent hospital no longer exists. The church was initially commissioned in 1071 by Robert Guiscard and Roger I of Sicily. Tradition holds the besieging Norman Army had camped near this site, near an Arabic castle, and here erected a temporary shrine, which later became the site of the church. The leprosarium was putatively built because Roger II's brother died of Leprosy. Over the years, the hospital and church was under the control of various religious orders, including the Teutonic knights. The church, which had become a house, underwent dramatic restoration from 1920 to 1934. Centuries of accretions were removed. Some of the internal columns have capitals decorated with Kufic script.

The Oreto is a 22-kilometre (14 mi) river in Sicily. Its source is located between Altofonte and Monreale, a few kilometers from Palermo. It gives the name to the Oreto Valley and crosses the south-east portion of the city before flowing into the Tyrrhenian Sea. Called "Wādī al-ʿAbbās" during the Islamic period, the river has had an important role in the history of Palermo. In the 12th century, in order to cross it, the Ammiratus ammiratorum George of Antioch built the Admiral's Bridge.

The Admiral's Bridge (Italian: Ponte dell'Ammiraglio) is a medieval bridge of Palermo, located in Piazza Scaffa. It was built over the Oreto River during the era of the Norman Sicily by the ammiratus ammiratorum George of Antioch. In 2015, it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of a series of nine civil and religious structures inscribed as Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale.
