Haynes Mountain

The Catskill Park is in the Catskill Mountains in New York in the United States. It consists of 700,000 acres (280,000 ha; 2,800 km2) of land inside a Blue Line in four counties: Delaware, Greene, Sullivan, and Ulster. As of 2005, 287,500 acres (116,300 ha) or 41 percent of the land within, is owned by the state as part of the Forest Preserve; it is managed by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Another 5% is owned by New York City to protect four of the city's reservoirs in the region that lie partially within the park and their respective watersheds. There are bobcats, minks and fishers in the preserve, and coyotes are often heard. There are some 400 black bears living in the region. The state operates numerous campgrounds and there are over 300 miles (500 km) of multi-use trails. Hunting is permitted, in season, in much of the park. It has approximately 50,000 permanent residents, bolstered somewhat by second-home ownership on weekends and in the summer, and attracts about half a million visitors every year. The park is governed by Article 14 of the state constitution, which stipulates that all land owned or acquired by the state within cannot be sold or otherwise transferred (absent amending the constitution, which has been done on several occasions), may not be used for logging and must remain "forever wild."

Balsam Mountain is one of the High Peaks of the Catskill Mountains in the U.S. state of New York. Its exact height has not been determined, so the highest contour line, 3,600 feet (1,100 m), is usually given as its elevation. It is located in western Ulster County, on the divide between the Hudson and Delaware watersheds. The summit and western slopes of the peak are within the Town of Hardenburgh and its eastern slopes are in Shandaken. The small community of Oliverea is near its base on that side. Most of the mountain is publicly owned, managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as part of the state Forest Preserve, part of the Big Indian-Beaverkill Range Wilderness Area in the Catskill Park. The summit is on a small corner of private land. As one of the High Peaks it is a popular destination for hikers, especially peakbaggers seeking membership in the Catskill Mountain 3500 Club, since along with Slide, Panther and Blackhead it is one of four peaks that members must climb twice, at least once in winter. The Pine Hill-West Branch Trail (PHWB) crosses its summit; hikers usually approach from either side via the Oliverea-Mapledale Trail, which intersects the PHWB south of the summit, and make the ascent from there. The northwestern approach makes a loop route possible via the Mine Hollow Trail; the southeastern ascent, from McKenley Hollow, has the steepest stretch of trail on any ascent of a Catskill High Peak.

Belle Ayr Mountain is a mountain in the Catskill Mountains of New York southwest of Pine Hill. Fleischmann Mountain is to the west-northwest, Brush Ridge is north, Balsam Mountain and Haynes Mountain are south of Bell Ayr Mountain.

Hirams Knob is a mountain located in the Catskill Mountains of New York southeast of Mapledale. Balsam Lake Mountain is located southwest, and Haynes Mountain is located southeast of Hirams Knob.

Seager is a former village in Ulster County, New York, United States, within Catskill Park and the Catskill Mountains. It was a small village that vanished after tanning in the Catskills ended in the late 19th century. Today it consists of one house and a hiking trailhead for the Seager West Branch Trail.

Tappan Bridge, also known as Kittle Bridge is a wooden covered bridge in the town of Hardenburgh in Ulster County, New York.

Forge Bridge is a wooden covered bridge in the town of Hardenburgh in Ulster County, New York. It was originally built in 1906 and has a single span of 27 ft (8.2 m).

Graham Mountain is the seventh highest of the Catskill High Peaks and the highest privately owned mountain in the range. It is located in the town of Hardenburgh, New York, United States. Its summit is unique in the Catskills for its pygmy hardwood forest cover and absence of evergreen boreal species that normally dominate at that elevation in the range, despite the presence of balsam fir on the slopes below the summit. In the early 1960s a relay station was built there for Instructional Television, a predecessor to today's Public Broadcasting Service. The relay station was abandoned after a few years and its ruins can be seen from the slopes and summits of neighboring peaks. Graham is within the Catskill Park. Only part of it is in the state-owned Forest Preserve; the summit and the most common access route are owned by descendants of railroad magnate Jay Gould, a native of the region, who closed the peak to the public indefinitely in January 2021. Prior to then, a successful ascent was required for membership in the Catskill Mountain 3500 Club.

Pine Hill station, MP 39.7 on the Ulster and Delaware Railroad (U&D), served the village of Pine Hill, New York. It was constructed on the slope of Belle Ayr Mountain 100 feet above the village along the steep grade running from Big Indian to the summit at Grand Hotel station. The famous double horseshoe curves on the U&D were located just west of the station. Pine Hill has a large spring and for many years large quantities of bottled water were shipped from here. This station was abandoned after the end of passenger service on the U&D, which occurred on March 31, 1954, and was soon torn down because it was in such bad condition. It was on the same hill that now stands next to the artificial Pine Hill Lake. The railroad tracks next to the former station site were once leased to the Catskill Mountain Railroad, and were cleared of brush and vegetation in June, 2006. In July, 2006, the North American Railcar Operators Association sponsored a track-speeder meet on the Delaware and Ulster Railroad that was extended to Pine Hill: the first rail traffic to reach the station site in nearly 30 years. The former U&D/NYC tracks are now (2022) permanently out of service, with several major washouts along Esopus Creek, between the Ulster County line at Highmount and a point just east of West Hurley.

Pine Hill Historic District is a national historic district located at Pine Hill, Ulster County, New York. It encompasses 125 contributing buildings, 3 contributing sites, 2 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object in the hamlet of Pine Hill. It developed between about 1800 and 1962 and includes notable examples of Greek Revival, Carpenter Gothic (Gothic Revival), Italianate, Stick Style, Second Empire, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Classical Revival, and Bungalow / American Craftsman architecture. Located in the district are the separately listed District School No. 14, Elm Street Stone Arch Bridge, Mill Street Stone Arch Bridge, Morton Memorial Library, and Ulster House Hotel. Other notable contributing resources include the John C. Loomis House (c. 1855), Methodist Episcopal Church (c. 1860), Benjamin Franklin Cornish House (c. 1860), Elizabeth Smith House (1876), Orchard Park House (1882), and "The Zepher" (c. 1895).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

United States Lace Curtain Mills, also known as the Scranton Lace Company Kingston Mill, is a historic factory building located at Kingston, Ulster County, New York. It was completed about 1903, and is a complex of three parallel brick buildings connected by hyphens. It operated as a textile manufacturing facility until 1951.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The Ulster House Hotel, formerly the Wellington Hotel, is located on Main Street in Pine Hill, New York, United States. It is a large wooden Italianate-style building dating to the late 19th century, currently vacant and undergoing renovations. It is one of the few remaining hotel buildings from the peak era of Catskill resorts. In 2002 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
