Billys Lake

Stephen C. Foster State Park is a 120-acre (49 ha) state park in the Okefenokee Swamp in Charlton County, Georgia. The park offers visitors several ways to explore the swamp's unique ecosystem. In November 2016, the park was recognized as a Dark Sky park by the International Dark Sky Association.The park was named after Stephen Foster (1826–1864), the American songwriter who immortalized Georgia's Suwannee River in song.

Okefenokee Wilderness is a 353,981 acre (1,432.5 km2) U.S. Wilderness Area located in southeastern Georgia in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. It was established and governed under the Wilderness Act of 1974 when 343,850 acres (1,391.5 km2) were designated as wilderness by Public Law 93-429. The wilderness area is located entirely within the state of Georgia, even though small parts of Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and Okefenokee Swamp both extend southward into the state of Florida. Located in the heart of the Okefenokee Swamp, this tract of land has been set aside for future generations to enjoy. No further uses such as timber harvesting, farming, or road building will be permitted. While the public is invited to engage in recreational opportunities such as fishing, hiking, canoeing, and wildlife observation, all uses are primitive and nondestructive and all access is by either foot traffic or boat. Boats having 10 hp or less are allowed and can be rented along with canoes at the two main entrance ways on either side (West or East) of the swamp.

Floyds Island Hammock is a historic site in the swamp of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Charlton County, Georgia. Also known as Hebard Cabin and Floyd's Cabin, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. The listing included a contributing building, a contributing structure (Railroad Piling & Bed), and four contributing sites (B. Spaulding Cabin Site (9Cr36), Cook's House Site, Guide's Hut Sites (3), and 9Cr2 (Floyds Island Mound)).

Charlton County is the southernmost county of the U.S. state of Georgia, located in the southeastern part of the state. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,518. The county seat is Folkston.

The John M. Hopkins Cabin, located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge south of Folkston, Georgia, off GA 121/23 in Charlton County, Georgia, is a log cabin built in 1927. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It is a 30 by 24 feet (9.1 m × 7.3 m) house built of end-notched heart pine logs, with a foundation of hexagonal heart pine blocks. It has also been known as Quarters #12 - Quest Cabin.

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge is a 402,000‑acre (1,627 km2) National Wildlife Refuge located in Charlton, Ware, and Clinch Counties of Georgia, and Baker County in Florida, United States. The refuge is administered from offices in Folkston, Georgia. The refuge was established in 1937 to protect a majority of the 438,000 acre (1,772 km2) Okefenokee Swamp. The name "Okefenokee" is a Native American word meaning "trembling earth."A wildfire which began with a lightning strike near the center of the Refuge on May 5, 2007 eventually merged with another wildfire which had begun near Waycross, Georgia on April 16 due to a tree falling on a power line. By May 28, more than 580,000 acres (2,300 km2) had burned in the region, or more than 900 square miles (2300 km2).Nearly 400,000 people visit the refuge each year, making it the 16th most visited refuge in the National Wildlife Refuge System. It is the largest in acreage of any that is not located in a western state. In 1999, the economic impact of tourism in Charlton, Ware, and Clinch Counties in Georgia exceeded $67 million. The refuge has a staff of 16 with a fiscal year 2005 budget of $1,451,000. The refuge also administers the Banks Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
