The Delphi School is a historic building in Delphi, Washington, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1990. The building is a one-story, rectangular structure on a concrete foundation containing a single classroom. It served as a principal public primary education facility in rural Thurston County between 1910 and 1942. It currently serves as a privately owned community meeting hall.

The Black River National Wildlife Refuge is an in-development wildlife refuge located between Black Lake and the community of Littlerock in Thurston County, Washington. Also known under several different names including the Black River Preserve or Black River Unit, the site is officially part of the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge was established in 1996 after ongoing efforts by local residents and organizations, such as The Nature Conservancy, were undertaken to preserve the rare and undisturbed wetland area. Privately-owned parcels have either been purchased through various groups and government agencies, or have been donated by landowners, to expand the preserve. As of 2026, the official size of the refuge is approximately 2,200 acres (890 ha) with a planned border encompassing 3,600 acres (1,500 ha). Attempts to build asphalt and cement plants, as well as the expansion of a gravel mine, on the border of the preserve during the 2000s were thwarted after years of legal filings. The Black River Unit is home to several waterways and a variety of environments, and includes a diverse habitat of amphibians, birds, native fish, and mammals.

Noski Creek is a stream in Thurston County in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a tributary to Waddell Creek.A variant name is "Noschka Creek". The creek was named after a pioneer who settled near it in the 1880s.

The Chehalis Gap is a gap in the Coast Range of Washington state between the southernmost foothills of the Olympic Mountains called the Satsop Hills, and the Willapa Hills.The gap is a major geographic feature of the northwestern United States. Other geographic features in the gap include Chehalis River, Grays Harbor, and Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge in its estuary. U.S. Route 12 runs through the gap from Elma near Capitol State Forest to Aberdeen on Grays Harbor near the coast, paralleled by the former U.S. Route 410 and Puget Sound and Pacific Railroad.

Waddell Creek is a stream in Thurston County in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a tributary to the Black River.Waddell Creek was named after the family of Robert Waddell, which settled near its course in the 1850s.

Mima mounds are low, flattened, circular to oval, domelike, natural mounds that are composed of loose, unstratified, often gravelly sediment that is an overthickened A horizon. These mounds range in diameter from 3 to more than 50 m; in height 30 cm to greater than 2 m; and in density from several to greater than 50 mounds per hectare, at times forming conspicuous natural patterns. Mima mounds can be seen at the Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve in Washington state. "Mima" is a name derived from a Chinook Jargon term meaning "a little further along" or "downstream".Theories for the origin of Mima mounds include burrowing by pocket gophers; accumulation of wind-blown (aeolian) sediments around vegetation to form coppice dunes or nebkhas; seismic ground shaking by major earthquakes, though none have been observed to form Mima mounds; and shrinking and swelling of clays in hog-wallow or gilgai landforms. Though the definitive Mima mounds are common in North America, it has not been shown that all North American mounds result from the same causes. Superficially similar phenomena occur on all continents, and the proposed causal factors do not occur in all regions that have been studied. Nor is it clear that all such mounds really are the same, either physically or functionally; for example, the so-called fairy circles of Southern Africa tend to be less mound-like and occur in different climatic and ecological conditions from Mima mounds. Furthermore, it has been argued that the possibly distinct heuweltjies of the South Western Cape region of South Africa are of an origin far different from either.

Littlerock is an unincorporated community in Thurston County, Washington, United States. Littlerock is 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Olympia. The town is west of Interstate 5 and Maytown. Littlerock is located near several protected lands, such as the Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve and Capitol State Forest.

Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve is a state-protected Natural Area in southwest Washington state, United States. The preserve includes some of the Washington mima mounds, the origin of which still is not fully understood. The site comprises 637 acres (258 ha) of Garry oak woodland, oak savanna, and prairie grasslands. Several state and federal endangered species of butterfly depending on the unique prairie conditions can be found in the preserve, including Mardon skipper, zerene fritillary, Puget blue and Taylor's checkerspot.In 1966, the mima mounds were designated a National Natural Landmark.

Black Lake is a lake located about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Olympia, Washington. It has two outflows; the Black River, which drains southwest into the Chehalis River and thence to Gray's Harbor and the Pacific Ocean, and Percival Creek, which drains northeast into Capitol Lake and thence into Puget Sound. Black Lake was so named on account of the dark character of its water. The nearby community of Belmore lies east of the lake.
