The Werse [German pronunciation: [ˈvɛʁzə]] (river no. 32) is a 67-kilometre-long (42 mi), left-hand tributary of the River Ems in Münsterland, North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany. The catchment area of the Werse is 762.47 km². Its name may be derived from a pre-Indo-European language, Vasconic, from which the Basque language developed. Its water quality is Class II-III and, in places, Class II. Contamination from communal sewage farms, fish ponds, but especially diffuse contamination from agriculture pollutes the mass balance of the Werse and leads to eutrophication along the entire river course, especially in the retention basin areas.

Kollenbach is a river in Beckum, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is a headwater of the Werse.

Beckum (German pronunciation: [ˈbɛkuːm]; Westphalian: Biäkem) is a town in the northern part of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is about 20 km (12 miles) north-east of Hamm and 35 km (22 miles) south-east of Münster. It gives its name to the nearby Beckum Hills.

Neubeckum station is a passenger station in the district of Neubeckum, part the Westphalian town of Beckum in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The station was established in 1847. The village of Neubeckum (literally "new Beckum") was established in 1847 at the railway station, six km from Beckum. It lies on the Hamm–Minden railway, one of the most heavily trafficked lines in Germany. It has an hourly Regional-Express service, the Rhein-Weser-Express (RE 6) on the Düsseldorf–Dortmund–Bielefeld–Minden route as well as an hourly Regionalbahn service, the Ems-Börde-Bahn (RB 69) on the Münster)–Hamm–Bielefeld route, so there is a service about every half an hour. Both lines were previously operated by DB Regio NRW. In December 2008, eurobahn, based in Hamm, took over the operation of RB 69. Neubeckum is still a railway junction. At Neubeckum station the Münster–Warstein railway of the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn (Westphalian State Railway) crosses the Hamm–Minden railway. Its purpose is mainly to bring high-purity limestone from the Warstein limestone quarries to the cement plants to the north at Ennigerloh. Neubeckum's former cement plants have closed. Until 1975, the Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn operated passenger services, including to Münster, Warendorf and Lippstadt. The line is still used for the operation of steam-hauled museum trains from Münster via Neubeckum to Lippstadt, Erwitte, Anröchte and Warstein.

The THTR-300 was a thorium cycle high-temperature nuclear reactor rated at 300 MW electric (THTR-300) in Hamm-Uentrop, Germany. It started operating in 1983, synchronized with the grid in 1985, operated at full power in February 1987 and was shut down September 1, 1989. The THTR-300 served as a prototype high-temperature reactor (HTR) to use the TRISO pebble fuel produced by the AVR, an experimental pebble bed operated by VEW (Vereinigte Elektrizitätswerke Westfalen). The THTR-300 cost €2.05 billion and was predicted to cost an additional €425 million through December 2009 in decommissioning and other associated costs. The German state of North Rhine Westphalia, Federal Republic of Germany, and Hochtemperatur-Kernkraftwerk GmbH (HKG) financed the THTR-300’s construction.

Oestinghausen has a primary school the St. Stephanus-Schule and a kindergarten. The sports club Schwarz-Gelb Oestinghausen, the Carnival-Club and the "Schuetzenverein" Sankt Hubertus regularly use the Community Hall and the sports field. Other local associations are the Oestinghausen marching band, the Scouts and a volunteer fire department.
