Landywood

Landywood railway station is situated in the village of Landywood in Staffordshire, England. As well as Landywood, the station also serves the adjacent villages of Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley (The former Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay railway station closed in the 1960s). The LNWR also operated an earlier halt at Landywood which closed on 1 January 1916. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Railway.

Great Wyrley is a village and civil parish in Staffordshire, England. It is coterminous with the villages of Landywood and Cheslyn Hay in the South Staffordshire district. It lies 5.5 miles north of Walsall, West Midlands. It had a population of 11,060 at the 2011 census.

Wolverhampton Sporting Community Football Club is a football club originally formed in Wolverhampton, but currently based in Great Wyrley, the club competes in the Midland League Division One. Originally formed as Chubb Sports F.C. they lost their home club and pitches due to the Chubb lock and safe factory closing down and being sold for housing. The club then changed its name to Heath Town Rangers, the name and badge was chosen by the players in 2001. The club changed its name from Heath Town Rangers to its present name midway through the 2010–11 season.

Great Wyrley Academy (formerly Great Wyrley High School) is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Great Wyrley in the English county of Staffordshire.Great Wyrley Academy is located at the extreme south of the Staffordshire border with the Metropolitan Borough of Walsall in the West Midlands, and therefore the school educates pupils from both areas. It has played a major role in the village for many years and are known for their music and performance events throughout the year. Previously a community school administered by Staffordshire County Council, Great Wyrley High School converted to academy status in September 2018 and was renamed Great Wyrley Academy. The school is now sponsored by the Windsor Academy Trust.

St Mark's is the parish church of Great Wyrley, South Staffordshire, England. It is known for having had the first South Asian vicar of any Church of England parish, Shapurji Edalji, and for its association with Edalji's son George, who was falsely convicted on a charge of injuring a pony, and cleared after the intervention of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Newtown is a small village in South Staffordshire, England. For population details as taken in the 2011 census see Essington. Newtown lies in between Great Wyrley (to the north) and Bloxwich (to the south), or more precisely, Landywood (to the north) and Bloxwich (to the south), forming part of the Staffordshire/West Midlands border. It lies on Walsall Road, the main route between Walsall and Cannock, which forms part of the A34.

Wednesbury Town F.C. was a football club based in Wednesbury, West Midlands, England. For the 2008–09 season, they were members of the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One, but resigned during the season. They were formed in 2002 and were admitted into the West Midlands (Regional) League Division One North.The team played at Long Lane Park, Long Lane, Essington, Wolverhampton where they shared a pitch with Riverway.

Cheslyn Hay is a former mining village and civil parish which is contiguous with Great Wyrley and Landywood in Staffordshire, England. It is situated within the South Staffordshire district some 3 miles south of Cannock, 7 miles north of Walsall, 8.5 miles northeast of Wolverhampton (the closest city) and 12.5 miles south of the county town of Stafford. The West Midlands county border lies 2 miles to the south. Station Street is the main street with some small shops. A major employer in the village is B.S. Eaton Ltd, a manufacturer of concrete products who operate a fleet of distinctive orange trucks. Another large employer is PP Control & Automation Ltd, a manufacturer of automation machinery. Landywood railway station, which opened in 1989, is the nearest station. Previously the village was served by Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay railway station which closed in 1965. Until 1 January 1916, the LNWR also operated a halt at nearby Landywood. Before World War II there was a cinema at the top of Rosemary Road, on the site much later occupied by Barts Motors. The housing stock has been grown significantly in each post-war decade, with suburban expansion into surrounding fields. The old Primary School was situated on the site bounded by Hatherton Street, Pinfold Lane, Hill Street and High Street. It was constructed circa 1883 and demolished in the 1990s and the land used for new housing. An additional modern building on the opposite side of Pinfold Lane was used for school meals and gym. The village is now served by two primary schools (Glenthorne Primary School and Cheslyn Hay Primary School) and by one secondary school, Cheslyn Hay Academy. The Hawkins family were a prominent family in the area in the 19th century. During the 19th century the area was known colloquially as the Wyrley Bank (in the local dialect Wyrley Bonk).

Churchbridge is a road junction situated between Churchbridge and Bridgtown in Staffordshire. It links the A5, A34, and A460 to the adjacent M6 Toll. The junction is a magic gyratory, which means that it is similar to a magic roundabout, except that the constituent roundabouts are connected by lengths of roadway. The current junction layout was created in 2002–2003, incorporating the M6 Toll.The junction is a source of congestion. The Highways Agency planned improvements in 2014, these were completed in early March 2015. The cost of the work is £2.9 million.

Rumer Hill Junction (grid reference SJ991090) was a canal junction on the Cannock Extension Canal where the Churchbridge Branch left to join the Hatherton Canal. The junction, along with the northern section of the canal was abandoned in 1963. The Churchbridge Branch and Rumer Hill Junction were subsequently obliterated by opencast mining.

Springhill is a hamlet about a mile from Essington village, in the civil parish of Essington, in the South Staffordshire district, in the county of Staffordshire, England. In 2019 it had an estimated population of 538.
