Wheaton–Glenmont was a census-designated place (CDP) in Montgomery County, Maryland, at the 2000 United States Census, at which time it had a population of 57,694. For the 2010 U.S. Census the area was split into the two census-designated places of Wheaton and Glenmont.

Wheaton is a census-designated place in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States, situated north of Washington, D.C., and northwest of downtown Silver Spring. Wheaton takes its name from Frank Wheaton (1833–1903), a career officer in the United States Army and volunteer from Rhode Island in the Union Army who rose to the rank of major-general while serving before, during and after the Civil War. Wheaton was found to have a population of 52,150 in the 2020 census. The United States Postal Service has assigned ZIP code 20902 to Wheaton, but the Wheaton Post Office is a part of the larger Silver Spring area. Downtown Wheaton is located around the triangle formed by Veirs Mill Road, University Boulevard, and Georgia Avenue.

The Wheaton Youth Center, also known as the Wheaton Community Recreation Center, was a building located on Georgia Avenue in Wheaton, Maryland. The space was operated by the Montgomery County Department of Recreation. The Wheaton Youth Center opened in December 1963 and for the following decade was one of the premiere locations for the emerging suburban Maryland concert scene. Concerts at the Wheaton Youth Center were held in the gymnasium, which was located across from the Wheaton Library.

Wheaton High School is a U.S. four-year public high school in Montgomery County, Maryland. It is located in the unincorporated Wheaton-Glenmont section of Montgomery County, near Silver Spring, about 5 miles north of Washington, D.C. The high school is a part of the Montgomery County Public School system and a member of its Downcounty Consortium. The school is named for the Wheaton area, which is in turn named for Frank Wheaton (1833–1903), a career officer in the Union Army who rose to the rank of major-general while serving before, during, and after the Civil War. The school used to be physically connected to the Thomas Edison High School of Technology, named in honor of the famous American inventor.

Thomas Edison High School of Technology (often referred to as Thomas Edison or Edison) is a public vocational/technical high school located in Wheaton, an unincorporated section of Montgomery County, Maryland. It is located next to Wheaton High School. Edison is a member of the Downcounty Consortium. All programs consist of an academic base, industry competency requirements, employability skill development and career/college planning components, as well as opportunities for leadership development. Thomas Edison registers all students who are enrolled in the career and technical student organization, SkillsUSA. Typically, students spend half of their day at Thomas Edison, and the other half at their home school. Thomas Edison offers two sessions: the morning session from 8:05 AM to 10:35 AM, and the afternoon session from 11:20 AM to 1:50 PM. Thomas Edison is also the headquarters for the Montgomery County Students Trades Foundations Office.

John F. Kennedy High School is a public high school located in Glenmont, Maryland.1,817 students were enrolled at Kennedy during the 2019–2020 school year. Kennedy is a member of the Downcounty Consortium along with nearby Montgomery Blair, Wheaton, Albert Einstein, and Northwood High Schools. Kennedy's feeder schools are Argyle Middle School, Eastern Middle School, A. Mario Loiederman Middle School, Newport Mill Middle School, Parkland Middle School, Sligo Middle School, Odessa Shannon Middle School, Silver Spring International Middle School, and Takoma Park Middle School. Students from any of those high schools' base areas can apply to attend Kennedy through a lottery process, after students from Kennedy's own base middle schools—Odessa Shannon and Argyle—are offered spots. The school mascot is the Cavalier.

Wheaton Regional Park is a public park and county-designated protected area, located in Wheaton, Maryland. It is operated and managed by Montgomery County Parks (Montgomery Parks), a division of a bi-county agency, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M–NCPPC), which serves both Montgomery and Prince George's counties in the Washington, D.C. suburbs of the state of Maryland. The park was established in 1960, incorporating several large parcels of land into one of the county's largest parks, at the size of 538.7 acres (218.0 hectares).

Barrie School is a progressive independent school for students age 12 months through Grade 12 located in an unincorporated area of Montgomery County, Maryland, outside of Washington, D.C. The school is within the Glenmont census designated place, has a Silver Spring postal address, and is in close proximity to Layhill. Barrie School is a nonprofit school with 501(c)(3) status.Barrie School has three divisions located on the same campus. The Lower School, which serves children from age 12 months through fifth grade, is Montessori-based. The Middle and Upper School uses a project-based curriculum. The campus has several buildings, a pool, and two ponds. Barrie School's equestrian program closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the horses and ponies were re-homed.

The Brookside Gardens are public gardens located within Wheaton Regional Park, at 1800 Glenallan Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland. The gardens are open daily without charge. However, certain annual events there are held that may charge a fee. The gardens hosts a "Garden of Lights" exhibit that features a light display during the holiday season.

The Avalon School is a private independent day school for boys currently in Wheaton, Maryland, United States. It is associated with the Brookewood School, a private school for girls in Kensington, Maryland, and the Thomas More Institute, an umbrella program for homeschoolers.

Matthew Henson State Park is a publicly owned greenway with recreational features that runs along Turkey Branch, a tributary of Rock Creek, in Montgomery County, Maryland. The state park is managed by Montgomery County under an agreement with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. It was named for Maryland native and arctic explorer Matthew Henson.Matthew Henson Trail, an 8-foot-wide (2.4 m) hard surface hiking/biking trail, was completed through the park in 2009. The trail runs 4.5 miles (7.2 km) from the Rock Creek Hiker-Biker Trail near Aspen Hill northeast to Alderton Road near Layhill. The trail features 0.6 miles (0.97 km) of wooden boardwalk through environmentally sensitive areas.
