Winona Area Public Schools is the public school system in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It is also known as Independent School District 861. The superintendent is Dr. Annette Freiheit .The local public school system includes eight early learning programs, three elementary schools, the Winona Middle School, an alternative school, and the Winona Senior High School.The three elementary schools in the district are Goodview Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, and Washington-Kosciusko Elementary (W-K).

The Winona and St. Peter Engine House is a former engine house in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It was built around 1890 by the Winona and St. Peter Railroad, a subsidiary of the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 for having local significance in the theme of transportation. It was nominated for being the sole surviving structure of a railroad shop complex that was a major local employer and a component of the rail network that fueled Winona's economy.The building continued to serve as a locomotive shop until the Chicago and North Western removed its maintenance operations from Winona. Since 1965 the building has served as a warehouse, and is currently utilized by the Fastenal company of Winona.

Cotter Schools is located in Winona, Minnesota, and is the sole Roman Catholic school in the city. Educational opportunities begin in preschool for children 16 months or older and continue through Grade 12. Boarding is available for students in grades 7–12. The school opened its doors on September 5, 1911, as the "Cotter School for Boys" with 11 students. Cotter, named for the diocese’s first bishop, Bishop Joseph Bernard Cotter, was a boys school directed by the Christian Brothers of Saint John Baptist de La Salle. In 1952, the Brothers turned the operation of the school over to the diocese and Cotter became co-educational with the combining of the Cathedral Girls High School. In 1953 a new Cotter building was erected and in 1962 an addition was added. In 1992, with help from an endowment from the Hiawatha Education Foundation, the school moved to its current location on the campus of the former College of Saint Teresa, allowing it to add a boarding school component.

Winona Senior High School is a publicly funded high school in Winona, in Winona County, which is located in southeastern Minnesota in the United States. The high school has a population of over 1200 students in grades 9–12. The school's mascot is Herky the Winhawk. The school is part of the Winona Area Public Schools (Independent School District #861).

The Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM) is an art museum in Winona, Minnesota, United States, specializing in great art inspired by water. The building was constructed in 1932, the third of five new facilities built by Winona Public Schools in the early 20th century. It was nominated for representing the efforts of Winona Public Schools to implement progressive educational reforms such as separated grades, kindergartens, gymnasiums, art and music classrooms, and improved hygiene and fire safety.Due to budgetary shortfalls, the school building was sold to a private buyer in 2018.

The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 for its local significance in the themes of architecture and industry. It was nominated for being an outstanding example of a Queen Anne-style house and for being the home of a notable leader in the key industry behind Winona's early prominence.

The Huff–Lamberton House is a historic house in Winona, Minnesota, United States. It was built in 1857, and in 1873 it was given a Moorish Revival porch. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 for its state-level significance in the theme of architecture. It was nominated for being one of Minnesota's oldest and best preserved Italian Villa style houses. It is currently owned by Kappa Chi Fraternity.
