Darley railway station

Darley is a linear village in Nidderdale in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. The population as at the 2011 Census is 1,332 and is included in the civil parish of Darley and Menwith. The village extends for 1 mile east from a junction with the B6451 road. The western end of the village is known as Darley Head and the eastern end as The Holme. Darley has won many local and national 'Britain in Bloom' awards.

Dacre is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England, it is 5 miles south of Pateley Bridge. In the 2001 census the parish had a population of 658, increasing to 764 at the 2011 Census. The village is situated on the crest of a hill overlooking the River Nidd. Infrastructure of the village includes a small chapel and an old single-room schoolhouse which is currently used for community events. The largest settlement in the parish is Dacre Banks, on the River Nidd, where the church is located. The village of Dacre lies on higher ground a mile south of Dacre Banks.

Dacre railway station served the villages of Dacre and Summerbridge, North Yorkshire, England from 1862 to 1951 on the Nidd Valley Railway.

Summerbridge is a village in Nidderdale in Harrogate district, North Yorkshire, England. It is on the River Nidd, adjacent to Dacre Banks on the opposite bank of the river, and lies about 2.5 miles (4 km) south east of Pateley Bridge. The village is part of the historic West Riding of Yorkshire. The village has one public house, the Flying Dutchman, owned and operated by Samuel Smiths Old Brewery, tea rooms and several other shops (a post office, a general store, a large hardware store). Other businesses include a sawmill and a garage, and there are several more businesses on a small industrial estate at New York, sometimes considered part of Summerbridge. There is also a large Methodist church, a primary school and a retained fire station. Summerbridge is served by two-hourly buses of Harrogate Bus Company (route 24) between Harrogate and Pateley Bridge. The village is the largest settlement in the civil parish of Hartwith cum Winsley. It is the nearest village to Brimham Rocks, 2 miles (3 km) away.

Royal Air Force Menwith Hill or more simply RAF Menwith Hill is a Royal Air Force station near Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, which provides communications and intelligence support services to the United Kingdom and the United States. The site contains an extensive satellite ground station and is a communications intercept and missile warning site. It has been described as the largest electronic monitoring station in the world.RAF Menwith Hill is owned by the Ministry of Defence (MoD), but made available to the US Department of Defense (DoD) under the NATO Status of Forces Agreement 1951 and other, undisclosed agreements between the US and British governments. His Majesty's Government (HMG) is entitled to possession of the site and retains control over its use and its facilities, though the administration of the base is the responsibility of the US authorities, with support provided by around 400 staff from Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), in addition to United States Air Force (USAF) and US National Security Agency (NSA) personnel. In 2014, the number of American personnel was reduced as part of a streamlining of operations due to improvements in technology.The site acts as a ground station for a number of satellites operated by the US National Reconnaissance Office, on behalf of the NSA, with antennas contained in numerous distinctive white radomes, locally referred to as "the golf balls", and is alleged to be an element of the ECHELON system.The site is one of three main sites operated by the United States across the globe as a major satellite monitoring station and intelligence gathering location. The other two sites are located in America and Australia, having similar roles and working together with RAF Menwith Hill to develop knowledge around American, British and Australian interests. The Australian site is known as the Joint Defence Facility Pine Gap.

Hartwith cum Winsley is a civil parish in Harrogate district, North Yorkshire, England. Historically it was a township in the ancient parish of Kirkby Malzeard in the West Riding of Yorkshire, a detached part of that parish. It became a separate civil parish in 1866, and was transferred to North Yorkshire in 1974. The main settlement in the parish is the village of Summerbridge. The parish also includes the hamlets of Low Laithe, New York, Brimham, Hartwith and the eastern part of Smelthouses. Winsley consists of some scattered houses and farms in the east of the parish. In 2015 the population of the parish was estimated at 1,020.The parish occupies the north side of lower Nidderdale. In the north of the parish are Brimham Rocks. In the Middle Ages, Hartwith cum Winsley (then known as Brimham) formed part of the lands of Fountains Abbey, which established granges at Wise Ing (near Smelthouses), Braisty Woods, Brimham Grange and Brimham Park. At Brimham Grange there was a chapel, where local recusants kept a Catholic priest in the late 16th century. In the 18th century Brimham Hall was built on the site of Brimham Grange and is now a Grade II listed building. Brimham Park was used by the abbots as a hunting lodge. It was replaced in 1661 by a substantial house now known as Brimham Lodge, which is a Grade I listed building.

Felliscliffe is a civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, in Nidderdale, Harrogate borough. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 283. The principal settlement in the parish is the village of Kettlesing, and the parish also includes the hamlet of Swincliffe.

Swarcliffe Hall is a large hall that was constructed in 1800 in Birstwith, near Harrogate, England. The current house was built by John Greenwood in 1850, who engaged Major Rohde Hawkins as his architect, and is a Grade II listed building.

John O'Gaunt's Castle was a royal hunting lodge in the West Riding of Yorkshire in England.

Knabs Ridge Wind Farm is an electricity generating site just south of the A59 road near to Felliscliffe, Kettlesing, North Yorkshire, England. It was the first wind farm to be built in North Yorkshire in over 15 years, and was believed to be the first time that civilian air traffic was considered in the planning permission process.

Beaver Dyke Reservoirs were two water supply reservoirs (one of which is still extant), 5 miles (8 km) west of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England. The main reservoir, also known as Lower Beaver Dyke Reservoir, was constructed in 1890 and had a surface area of 9 ha. In 2008 the reservoir's owner, Yorkshire Water, decided that it was not economic to maintain its ageing structures. It was decommissioned between 2013 and 2015 by breaching its dam and channelling a stream in the bed of the former reservoir. A residual lake of 0.5 ha was retained. The water of the reservoir was relatively nutrient rich, but it was known to suffer from potentially toxic blooms of Blue green algae. The smaller reservoir (also called John O'Gaunts Reservoir due to the proximity of John O'Gaunt's Castle) is still filled with water.
