Scraptoft Nature Reserve

Scraptoft is a village in Leicestershire, England. It has a population of about 1,500, measured at the 2011 census as 1,804. It lies north of the A47 road east of Leicester, and runs directly into the built up area of Thurnby and Bushby to the south. For local government the village forms part of the district of Harborough, and constitutes a civil parish.

Scraptoft Hall is a former Georgian country house in the village of Scraptoft, Leicestershire, England. A Grade II* listed building, it has since been converted to apartments.The hall was built in 1723, based on a previous 17th-century house, for the widow of Sir Edward Wigley. A rear wing was added in 1896. The 5-window frontage is ashlar built in 3 storeys plus basement. The hall was inherited by Edward Wigley's son James, MP for Leicester, who laid out the ornamental lake and gardens. The front boundary wall and ornamental iron gates are separately Grade II* listed.After James Wigley's death, the estate passed to his great-nephew, Edward Hartopp, who then took the additional surname of Wigley. It descended in the Hartopp family until they disposed of it after the First World War. After passing through a number of different hands it was acquired by Leicester Corporation in 1954 as the site for a new teachers' training college, the City of Leicester College of Education in Scraptoft, the Hall itself acting as the college principal's residence. The college became Scraptoft Campus of De Montfort University until it was closed in 2003, after which the college buildings were demolished. The Hall has since been restored for use as an apartment building.

Orchard Mead Academy, previously known as Hamilton Community College, is a co-educational secondary school located in Leicester, England, taking children between the ages of eleven and sixteen.The college became an academy on 1 September 2017, joining The Mead Educational Trust /(TMET) as a sponsored academy. The main school building dating from the 50s and 60s was replaced in 2014 as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. As part of these works Nether Hall Special School co-located with Hamilton on the Keyham Lane West site. 2502 Squadron Air Training Corps also shares the school site.The school was awarded the status of a specialist Technology College in September 2001.

Thurnby and Scraptoft railway station was a railway station in Thurnby, Leicestershire on the Great Northern Railway Leicester branch. Thurnby & Scraptoft railway station was situated approximately four miles east of Leicester Belgrave Road station.

Leicester Nirvana Football Club is a football club based in the Hamilton area of Leicester in Leicestershire. Formed in 2008 by a merger of Thurnby Rangers and Leicester Nirvana, they are currently members of the United Counties League Premier Division South and play at Hamilton Park.

Thurnby is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Thurnby and Bushby, in the Harborough district, in the county of Leicestershire, England. It is just east of Leicester's city boundaries. Thurnby village proper is set to the south of the A47, just after it leaves the city. A sister village, Bushby lies just to the east and merges into it. To the west is Evington and Thurnby Lodge in Leicester proper, to the north is Scraptoft and to the south and east are open countryside – the next villages in these directions are Stoughton and Houghton on the Hill.

Bushby is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Thurnby and Bushby, in the Harborough district, in Leicestershire, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 336.It lies just south of the A47 Uppingham Road, which leads east from Leicester, and contiguous with the village of Thurnby. The principal thoroughfare is the east-west Main Street, off which lead half a dozen closes built since the 1950s. Its central point is the 'spinney', a clump of pine trees forming an island created when a dog's-leg in Main street was straightened out. Most of the settlement is made up of commuter housing, but it retains a handful of farms and shops. Though the local pub, the Rose and Crown, lies in Thurnby, its old skittle alley is on Bushby territory, with the consequence that it used to have later opening hours.

Thurnby Lodge is an estate in eastern Leicester, Leicestershire, England. Roughly, it consists of the area inside the city boundary which is north of the Uppingham Road, east of the A563 outer ringroad, and south of the Scraptoft Lane. Since the core area around Thurncourt Road is a council estate with a negative reputation, many, particular those around the western and southern fringe, would disassociate their area from Thurnby Lodge. It is near, however not part of Thurnby (to the south-east), after which it is named. Other nearby places are Humberstone (north and west), Scraptoft (east), Evington (south) and Goodwood (south).
