Grimstad Church

Grimstad () is a town in Grimstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The town is also the administrative centre of the municipality. It is located on the Skaggerak coast in Southern Norway along the Groosefjorden, between the towns of Arendal (to the northeast) and Lillesand (to the southwest). The 10.02-square-kilometre (2,480-acre) town has a population (2019) of 13,543 and a population density of 1,352 inhabitants per square kilometre (3,500/sq mi). In Norway, Grimstad is considered a by which can be translated as either a "town" or "city" in English. Grimstad Church is located on a small hill overlooking the town's harbour. The University of Agder is located in the town as well.

J.J. Ugland Stadion – Levermyr, more commonly (and formerly) known as Levermyr stadion, is a multi-purpose stadium in Grimstad, Norway and home of the OBOS-ligaen team FK Jerv (men's football), the 1. Division team Amazon Grimstad (women's football), and Sørild FIK (athletics/track and field). The stadium itself is owned by the municipality, and it located just a few hundred meters from the town centre, in the Levermyr area. Though opening as a multi-purpose arena in 1983, football have been played here for much longer. The capacity of the stadium is currently 3,300. The record attendance is around 8,000, from a national B-team men's football match between Norway and Finland in 1963, while Jerv's record is around 7,000 from a cup match against Viking in 1976. Amazon Grimstad's record is 5,000 from a show match against BUL Oslo in the summer of 1970. The more recent record attendance is some 3,000 in a cup clash between Jerv and rivals Start in 2010.When Jerv was promoted to the OBOS-ligaen before the 2015 season, parts of the stadium had to be rebuilt to meet requirements from the Norwegian Football Association.The stadium ran into problems in 2005, after being evaluated as inadequate by the Norwegian Athletics Association. This led to the licence for track and field being withdrawn. The stadium eventually got its licence back, after upgrading the running track. On 28 November 2007, the municipality council decided that the stadium was to be renewed to meet the requirements of the Norwegian Football Association for Amazon's participation in Toppserien. Local shipowner and former Jerv player Johan Jørgen Ugland lent the municipality 20 million Norwegian kroner as an interest free loan to help the municipality upgrade the stadium. The building started in 2009, and Ugland later said he would cover any cost between 20 and 27 million kroner as the upgrade became more expensive than anticipated. On 3 May 2010, about a month after Ugland's death, the municipality council decided to rename the stadium 'J.J. Ugland Stadion – Levermyr', just before the re-opening later the same month. The before mentioned current upgrades for Jerv's participation in OBOS-ligaen are still ongoing, as floodlights are to be installed before the 2017 season and field heating before the 2018 season.

Sand District Court (Norwegian: Sand tingrett) was a district court in Aust-Agder county, Norway. The court was based in the town of Grimstad. The court existed from 1852 until 2004. It had jurisdiction over the municipalities of Grimstad, Birkenes, and Lillesand. Cases from this court could be appealed to Agder Court of Appeal. The court was a court of first instance. Its judicial duties were mainly to settle criminal cases and to resolve civil litigation as well as bankruptcy. The administration and registration tasks of the court included death registration, issuing certain certificates, performing duties of a notary public, and officiating civil wedding ceremonies. Cases from this court were heard by a combination of professional judges and lay judges.

Rønnes is a village in Grimstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern shore of the Vikkilen bay, directly across the bay from the harbour of the town of Grimstad. The village of Hesnes lies about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) to the northeast and the town of Grimstad lies only about 800 metres (2,600 ft) to the west (across the bay).

The Dømmesmo Oak (in Norwegian: Dømmesmoeika) is a large oak tree that stands at Dømmesmoen park in Grimstad, Norway. A heavy snowfall in March 1985 broke several of the largest branches, and a New Year fireworks rocket ignited the tree around the year 2000. Nevertheless, the tree is still one of the most distinctive of old Norwegian trees. The oak is hollow, but the foliage is still lush and vigorous. Estimated age is about 500 years. The tree is 21 meters (69 ft) high and the perimeter is at 1.3 m (4.27 ft) above the ground 7.2 m (23.62 ft).The Dømmesmo Oak is probably a hybrid of the oak tree species Quercus robur and Quercus petraea.The cavity is formed by Laetiporus sulphureus.

Fjære is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The 60.4-square-kilometre (23.3 sq mi) municipality existed from 1846 until 1971. It was located to the north of the town of Grimstad. The name is still used to refer to that area, which is now a part of Grimstad municipality in Agder county. The administrative centre of Fjære was the village of Vik, just east of the historic Fjære Church. Other villages in Fjære included Fevik, Dømmesmoen, Frivold, Kroken, and Rønnes.

Fjære Church (Norwegian: Fjære kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Grimstad Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Fjære. It is the main church for the Fjære parish which is part of the Vest-Nedenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was built in a long church design around the year 1150 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 300 people.

Fjæreheia is a former quarry in Norway where a characteristic red granite was mined. Since 1993 Fjæreheia has been a theatre for both the plays of Ibsen and modern rock musicals. Agder Theatre bought the quarry in 1995, and in summer 1999 built a new amphitheatre with 1000 seats. The quarry is a unique outdoors arena with good acoustics, and lies around 2 kilometers from Fjære church. Since opening in 1999 there have been many different types of arrangement at Fjæreheia. Diverse productions have been staged, including musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar, film presentations, readings of the poem "Terje Vigen" and rock concerts from acts such as A-ha, Vamp and Bjørn Eidsvåg.

Vik is a village in Grimstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located at the northern end of the Kilen bay that flows past the town of Grimstad. The village sits at the junction of Norwegian County Road 420 and Norwegian County Road 407 on the south side of the European route E18 highway. The village was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Fjære. The historic Fjære Church lies about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) west of the village.

Østerhus Church (Norwegian: Østerhus arbeidskirke) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Grimstad Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Østerhus. It is an annex chapel in the Landvik parish which is part of the Vest-Nedenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The small concrete and wood chapel was built in a long church style in 1980 using designs by the architect . The chapel seats about 150 people.

Grimstad Bible School (also known as Bibelskolen i Grimstad or BiG) is located in Grimstad, Norway and is owned by Normisjon. The school was founded by Det norske lutherske Indremisjonsforbundet (the Norwegian Lutheran Inner Mission Association). The Bible School is marketed with the slogan "A year to clarify and prepare" and it has a curriculum that supports its vision, focusing on Bible studies, personal growth and contemporary challenges. The school has room for about 85 students in addition to second-year students.

Hesnes is a village in Grimstad municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the Skaggerak coast about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) northeast of the village of Rønnes and about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) southeast of the village of Vik. The town of Grimstad lies about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) by car from Hesnes.
