Barrington is a town in Strafford County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 9,326 at the 2020 census, up from 8,576 at the 2010 census. The town is a woodland, farm and commuter town.

The Canaan Chapel (also known as Canaan Free Will Baptist Church) is a historic chapel on Canaan Road in Barrington, New Hampshire. Built in 1881, it is a typical example of a rural Free Will Baptist church of the mid-19th century, exhibiting modest elements of Greek Revival design despite a late construction date for that style. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Strafford Union Academy is a historic school building at the junction of New Hampshire Routes 202A and 126 in Center Strafford, New Hampshire. Built in 1833, it is one of the best-preserved early 19th-century academy buildings in the state. The building, now maintained by the local historical society, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Center Strafford is an unincorporated community in the town of Strafford, New Hampshire. It is one of the two principal settlements in the town, along with Bow Lake Village. The village is located at the intersection of New Hampshire Route 126 and Route 202A. Route 126 connects Center Strafford with Barnstead to the northwest and Barrington to the southeast. Route 202A connects the village with Northwood to the southwest and Rochester to the northeast. Strafford School, serving kindergarten through eighth grade for the town of Strafford, is located in the village, as is the Hill Library. The former Austin Cate Academy (now garrisoned by the 195th Regiment (RTI), New Hampshire Army National Guard), plus the town offices, post office, and Austin Hall (Strafford Historical Society) are all in Center Strafford. The village has a separate ZIP code (03815) from the rest of the town of Strafford, including Bow Lake Village.

Swains Lake (also known as Union Lake) is a 341-acre (1.38 km2) water body located in Strafford County in eastern New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Barrington. Water from Swains Lake flows via the Bellamy River to the Piscataqua River estuary. A boat launch is available off Young Road. During the spring and summer it is a popular boating destination, while the ice of the colder months connects several snowmobile paths. The lake is classified as a warmwater fishery, with observed species including largemouth bass, chain pickerel, horned pout, and bluegill.

Bow Lake Village is a small unincorporated community in the town of Strafford, New Hampshire, located at the outlet of Bow Lake. The village is home to the Bow Lake Grange, Isinglass Country Store, 7C's Kitchen and Market (formerly the Blue Loon, Sheila's, and Uncle George's), the old Waldron Store (owned by the Strafford Historical Society) and the Independence Inn & Heartwood Restaurant (formerly the Bow Lake Inn). The village's main roads are New Hampshire Route 202A, which connects it to Northwood and Center Strafford; Province Road, which follows the north shore of the lake; and Water Street, which follows the south shore.

Strafford County is a county in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. As of the 2020 census, the population was 130,889. Its county seat is Dover. Strafford County was one of the five original counties identified for New Hampshire in 1769. It was named after William Wentworth, 2nd Earl of Strafford in the mistaken belief that he was the ancestor of governor John Wentworth – although they were distantly related, William had no descendants. The county was organized at Dover in 1771. In 1840, the size of the original county was reduced with the creation of Belknap County. Strafford County constitutes a portion of the Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as of the greater Boston-Worcester-Providence, MA-RI-NH-CT Combined Statistical Area. It is estimated to be New Hampshire's county with the highest percentage growth over the 2010–2019 period.

Mendums Pond (occasionally spelled Mendum's Pond) is a 253-acre (1.02 km2) reservoir located primarily in Strafford County in eastern New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Barrington. Its extreme southern end dips into the town of Nottingham in Rockingham County. The pond is located on the Little River, a tributary of the Lamprey River and part of the larger Piscataqua River watershed. Like nearby Pawtuckaway Lake, Mendums Pond was created to ensure a consistent water supply for the Newmarket Manufacturing Company, a water-powered cotton textile manufacturer founded in 1822. During drought, a regulated flow would be released from the dam to run mills downriver in Newmarket. The University of New Hampshire owns 187.6 acres (0.8 km2) of forestland on Mendums Pond. Arthur W. McDaniel donated a small parcel to the college in 1930, then the remainder in 1970. Located at the shoreline is the UNH Sailing Club, which holds intra-collegiate races, with the rest of the property divided into areas for recreation, wildlife and timber harvesting.The pond is classified as a warm water fishery, with observed species including smallmouth and largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and horned pout.

West Nottingham is an unincorporated community in the town of Nottingham in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, United States. It is located along New Hampshire Route 152, 1 mile (1.6 km) south of U.S. Route 4 and 5 miles (8 km) north of the town center of Nottingham. West Nottingham has a separate ZIP code (03291) from the rest of Nottingham.

Baxter Lake is a 302.1-acre (1.223 km2) water body located in Strafford County in eastern New Hampshire, United States, in the town of Farmington and the city of Rochester. It is part of the Cocheco River watershed, a tributary of the Piscataqua River. Lake access is from the state launching ramp off Four Rod Road. Once clear of the island, winds are very steady for small boat sailing. Much of the east shoreline is undeveloped. The lake is classified as a warmwater fishery, with observed species including smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, and horned pout.
