West Street subway station

The Kilbirnie Street fire, on Friday 25 August 1972, was a warehouse fire in the Port Eglinton area, on the south side of Glasgow, Scotland, which killed seven Glasgow Fire Service firemen in a flashover while they were trying to rescue a trapped colleague. What started as a routine industrial premises fire resulted in one of the highest losses of life for the UK Fire Service at a single incident in peacetime.

Tradeston (Scots: Tredstoun) is a small district in the Scottish city of Glasgow adjacent to the city centre on the south bank of the River Clyde.

Buchanan Wharf (Scottish Gaelic: Cladh Bhochanain) is a complex of five mixed use buildings in the Tradeston area of Glasgow, Scotland. The complex comprises a total of five buildings, Clyde Place House, Tradescroft, Windmillcroft, Wellcroft and Grays Hill, with main usage being designated as office buildings. The complex houses the European headquarters of Barclays Bank, as well as the headquarters of the Student Loans Company, with other buildings in the complex ranging in usage from residential accommodation and a mix of local amenities.The complex comprises two 18 storey twin towers which consist of a total of 324 apartments with dining and gym facilities, a residents lounge, games room and 4,250 sq ft roof terrace.

Eglinton Street railway station was a railway station approximately one mile (1.5 kilometres) south of Glasgow Central, in the Port Eglinton district of Glasgow.

The New Bedford Cinema was a Scottish cinema on Eglinton Street in the Gorbals (Laurieston) area of Glasgow. The building now houses the O2 Academy Glasgow. It is a notable example of Art Deco architecture in the city.

The Tradeston Bridge (Scots: Tredstoun Brig, colloquially known as the squiggly bridge) is a pedestrian bridge across the River Clyde in Glasgow which opened on 14 May 2009. It links the districts of Anderston (on the north bank) to Tradeston and the neighbouring district of Kingston (on the south bank) – the aim of the bridge being to aid the regeneration of Tradeston by giving it a direct link to the city's financial district on the western side of the city centre. The design was prepared by Dissing+Weitling, a Danish architectural firm, with the UK engineers Halcrow Group. The bridge concrete works were built by BAM Nuttall whilst the steel bridge structure was fabricated and erected by RBG Ltd. The structure is a balanced cantilever design. The steel fins, which provide structural support, are placed above the bridge to add visual interest but also to reduce the overall bulk of the deck.It cost £7 million to construct and is used by pedestrians and cyclists with no motorised traffic being allowed upon it. The span is horizontally curved in an S shape with outward canting on both curves. The S shape gives the bridge the extra length it needs to allow enough clearance for boats without making the bridge too steep.

The O2 Academy Glasgow (formerly the Carling Academy Glasgow) is a music venue on Eglinton Street in the Gorbals (Laurieston) area of Glasgow. It holds 2,500 people. It was one of two Academy Music Group venues in Glasgow, until the O2 ABC Glasgow closed due to fire damage in 2018. It was one of a group of music venues in Britain branded Carling Academy, the best known including the Brixton Academy and the O2 Academy Birmingham. Since November 2008, the venue has been rebranded by network operator O2 to its new name, following a new sponsorship deal with Live Nation.

On 9 July 1872 the Tradeston Flour Mills, in Glasgow, Scotland, exploded. Eighteen people died, and at least sixteen were injured. An investigation suggested that the explosion was caused by the grain feed to a pair of millstones stopping, causing them to rub against each other, resulting in a spark or fire igniting the grain dust in the air. That fire was then drawn by a fan into an "exhaust box" designed to collect grain dust, which then ignited, causing a second explosion which destroyed the building. At the time, there were general concerns about similar incidents worldwide, so the incident and investigation were widely reported across the world.

Bridge Street railway station, now disused, was the original Glasgow terminus of the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway; jointly owned by the Glasgow, Paisley and Greenock Railway (GP&G), which later merged with the Caledonian Railway, and the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway (GPK&A), which became part of the Glasgow & South Western Railway.The station opened for traffic on the GPK&A in August 1840; and for traffic on the GP&G in March 1841. It was sited in Laurieston on the south side of the River Clyde, but was close to the centre of Glasgow.

Laurieston is a district in the Gorbals area of the Scottish city of Glasgow. It is situated south of the River Clyde. It derives its name from James Laurie who, along with his brother, developed a large part of the district in the early 19th century.

Bridge Street subway station serves Laurieston and Gorbals in Glasgow, Scotland. It is the main interchange between the Glasgow Subway and buses travelling to and from the south side. It is the nearest subway station for the Citizens Theatre, O2 Academy Glasgow, Glasgow Sheriff Court and Glasgow Central Mosque. It was opened in 1896 and comprehensively modernised in 1977–1980. The station retains its original island platform configuration.

Carrying the M8 motorway through the city centre, the Kingston Bridge is one of the busiest bridges in Europe, carrying around 150,000 vehicles every day.
