Mathafarn

The Afon Ceirig is a small river in Mid Wales. It flows from Esgair Llewelyn in the middle of the Dyfi Hills down to Mathafarn, north-west of Cemmaes Road, where it joins the Afon Dyfi. Between 1763 and around 1840 a water corn mill stood on the river at Bryn Melin, north of Mathafarn.

Cemmes Road was a railway station on the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway (N&MR) in Mid-Wales, serving the village of Cemmaes Road. The N&MR passed through the Cambrian Mountains in the deep Talerddig cutting, which formed the summit of the line. From there it descended towards the coast, reaching the Dyfi valley at the village of Cemmaes Road, where there was a junction with the Mawddwy Railway. The N&MR continued west to Machynlleth. The next station, north of Cemmes Road on the Mawddwy Railway, served the village of Cemmaes. To avoid confusion with that station, the N&MR's English backers named the junction station using an Anglicised version of the village's Welsh language name. Cemmes Road station closed as a result of the Beeching Axe in 1965, although the station building still exists as a private house. The signal box and passing loop closed in 1984 as part of rationalization.

Cemmaes Road (Welsh: Glantwymyn; Welsh pronunciation) is a village in Powys, Wales. It is in the community (civil parish) of Glantwymyn. The village was named in English after the now-closed Cemmes Road station on the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway, now part of the Cambrian Line. Cemmes Road was also the junction with the Mawddwy Railway. The Welsh name for the village, and for the community, is Glantwymyn (English: The Twymyn Riverside), as it lies on the River Twymyn. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, the population of the community is 1,072, increasing to 1,185 at the 2011 Census. The village of Cemmaes is 1+3⁄4 miles to the northeast. Cemmaes Road lies at the junction of the major A470 and A489 roads. The historic Mathafarn Hall is less than 1⁄2 mile north-west of Cemmaes Road. Ysgol Glantwymyn primary school is located in the village.

The Afon Twymyn (English: River Twymyn) is a river in Powys, Mid Wales. From its source at the 40-metre high Ffrwd Fawr waterfall and head of the Pennant Valley near Dylife the river flows through Llanbrynmair before joining the River Dyfi upstream of Cemmaes Road.

Glyndŵr's Way (Welsh: Llwybr Glyndŵr) is a long-distance footpath in mid Wales. It runs for 135 miles (217 km) in an extended loop through Powys between Knighton and Welshpool, and anchored on Machynlleth to the west.

Cemmaes railway station was an intermediate railway station on the Mawddwy Railway which ran from Cemmaes Road to Dinas Mawddy in the Welsh county of Merionethshire. The station was opened by the Mawddwy Railway in 1867 and closed to all goods traffic in 1908. The railway re-opened in 1911 with all services run by the Cambrian Railways. It was amalgamated into the Great Western Railway in 1923 as part of the grouping of British railways, and remained open to passenger traffic until 1931.

Cemmaes (Welsh: Cemaes) is a village in northern Powys, Wales, in Glantwymyn community. The population numbered 935 in 1841, this dropped sharply between 1881 and 1891 from 946 to 729.There was a railway station in the village on the Mawddwy Railway which connected to the main Cambrian Line at Cemmaes Road. This is the village in which the author, George Borrow, in his 'Wild Wales' book, of 1862, describes his amusing incident, in the local pub, whilst on a walking tour. The extract was included, also, in the book 'In the Country', in 1975.
