Hadfield railway station

Hadfield is a town in the High Peak of Derbyshire, England, with a population at the 2021 Census of 6,763. It lies on the south side of the River Etherow, near to the border with Greater Manchester, at the western edge of the Peak District close to Glossop.

Peter Street and Brosscroft is an area in Derbyshire, England. It is part of Hadfield (where the population can be found), located on the north-east side. It is situated on the boundary of the Peak District National Park and as such is ideal for outdoor recreation activities including walking, cycling and watersports. It is within a stone's throw of the Park boundary, within two minutes walk (or cycle) of the Longdendale Trail and five minutes walk of the Trans Pennine Trail. The nearest of four linked reservoirs has been used for watersports in the summer, and the next reservoir has a resident sailing club. It is less than five minutes drive (ten minutes walk) to the railway station and a similar distance to the A628 trans-pennine trunk road. Residents thus enjoy a rural lifestyle but with the additional benefits of good east–west road links (to South Yorkshire/M1 and Manchester/M6) and a direct rail link to Manchester Piccadilly and thence to the Airport.

Glossop Castle (also known as Mouselow Castle) is a Norman earthwork north of Glossop, off Hilltop Road, 14 miles (23 km) east of Manchester, on the A57. The site is visible from the main road, standing atop a commanding ridge. Some 12 miles (19 km) southeast is Peveril Castle.

Bottoms Reservoir is a man-made lake in Longdendale in north Derbyshire, England. It was constructed between 1865 and 1877, by John Frederick Bateman as part of the Longdendale Chain of reservoirs to supply water from the River Etherow to the urban areas of Greater Manchester. The upper reservoirs supplied the drinking water, while Bottoms and Vale House reservoirs regulated the flow downstream for the benefit of local water-powered mills. The reservoir was obliged to release ten million gallons a day. To ensure this, a gauging basin 40 feet (12 m) in diameter was built. The drinking water flowed through the Mottram Tunnel to the Godley covered reservoir.The Peak District Boundary Walk runs along the south-western side of the reservoir and over the dam.

Padfield is a small village near Hadfield in High Peak, Derbyshire, England. The village is on the west side of the Peak District National Park, and the nearest town is Glossop, where many local amenities and services are based. It is in a conservation area. The population as of the 2011 census was 2,796.

Dinting is a village in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, England. It is situated near the towns of Glossop and Hadfield. There is a small primary school, Dinting C of E, located near the viaduct. The 1st Dinting Scout Group has been active since 1938.

Tintwistle Rural District was a local government district in north east Cheshire, England from 1894 to 1974.It was created a rural district by the Local Government Act 1894 from the part of the Ashton-under-Lyne rural sanitary district which was in Cheshire. It consisted of the civil parishes of: Tintwistle Hattersley (until 1936) Matley (until 1936)Hattersley and Matley formed an exclave of the district. They were abolished in 1936 and their area transferred to the Municipal Borough of Hyde, the Municipal Borough of Dukinfield, Longendale Urban District and the Municipal Borough of Stalybridge.In 1974 the district was abolished. At that time, much of north east Cheshire became part of Greater Manchester. Instead of becoming part of that county, or forming an exclave of Cheshire, Tintwistle became part of the High Peak district of Derbyshire.

Dinting railway station serves the village of Dinting in Derbyshire, England. The station is on the Glossop Line and prior to the Woodhead Line's closure in 1981, Dinting was a station on the Great Central Main Line between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield Victoria.

Tintwistle ( TIN-səl) is a village and civil parish in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, England, which had a population of 1,400 at the 2011 census. The village is just north of Glossop at the lower end of Longdendale Valley. Tintwistle, like nearby Crowden and Woodhead, lies within the historic county boundaries of Cheshire.

Higher Dinting is a village in Glossopdale, Derbyshire, England. The village is near Glossop, Dinting, and Dinting Vale; the village falls within the Simmondley ward of the High Peak Council. Higher Dinting was the site of the Dinting Railway Museum.Nicholas Garlick was born in Higher Dinting in 1555 and was executed at Derby in July 1588 for being a Catholic priest. The Padley Martyrs are still commemorated every July at Padley chapel. A memorial was placed in the vicarage garden in Higher Dinting.

Dinting Viaduct (also known as Dinting Arches) is a 19th-century railway viaduct in Glossopdale in Derbyshire, England, that carries the Glossop Line over a valley at the village of Dinting. It crosses the Glossop Brook and the A57 road between Manchester and Sheffield. First opened in 1844 as part of the original Woodhead Line by the Sheffield, Ashton-under-Lyne and Manchester Railway (later the MSLR and GCR), the viaduct has been modified a number of times, most notably by the addition of seven brick strengthening piers in 1918–20. The viaduct comprises three sections: starting from the south end, there is a series of seven stone arches, each 50 feet (15 m) wide. The central section consists of five openings (later divided by strengthening piers). A further four stone arches take the railway to the northerly junction with the branch to Hadfield and into Dinting station. It is of similar design to the shorter Broadbottom Viaduct about 1.5 mi (2.4 km) west down the same line, which crosses the River Etherow at Broadbottom.
