Thorney Interchange

On 3 January 2007, a National Express coach overturned at the Thorney Interchange near London, killing three passengers and causing life-changing injuries to four others. The service had left Victoria Coach Station 30 minutes late, and the coach driver was found to have been speeding on the journey before losing control and crashing on a motorway sliproad. In 2008, He was sentenced to five years' imprisonment for causing death by dangerous driving.

Lower Colne is a Local Wildlife Site (reference M059) designated by London as a Metropolitan Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC). It is located in the Borough of Hillingdon and follows the course of two rivers, the River Colne and the Wraysbury River. This Local Wildlife Site extends from grassland just north of the M4 motorway to grassland adjacent to the A3113 road and includes Harmondsworth Moor Country Park, Orchard Farm and Heathrow Colne Valley Biodiversity Sites. The River Colne and the Wraysbury River originate as chalk streams and support aquatic plants including river water-dropwort, great yellow-cress, and pennyroyal. The site includes wet meadows, flooded gravel pits, and ponds, that provide habitat for kingfisher and water vole, while the rivers support a diversity of fish, including dace, chub and barbel. This site is described in T. Farino and M. Game, Nature Conservation in Hillingdon, Ecology Handbook Number 7 (London Ecology Unit, 1988).

The Staines & West Drayton Railway (S&WDR) is a former railway on the western edge of London, England. It was about 5+1⁄2 miles (9 km) long and ran roughly north–south along the River Colne, parallel to the modern M25 motorway west of Heathrow Airport. It opened from West Drayton on the Great Western Main Line to Colnbrook in 1884 and reached Staines the next year.

The Waterside building in Harmondsworth, Greater London, is the international head office of British Airways; it also houses the operational head office of BA's parent company, International Airlines Group (IAG). The building and landscaping, which cost £200 million, is on Harmondsworth Moor, northwest of Heathrow Airport, between the M4 and the M25 motorways in the linear Colne Valley regional park. Waterside is on the western edge of Greater London, near West Drayton and Uxbridge, in the Borough of HillingdonThe building is likely to be demolished as part of the controversial construction of a third runway at Heathrow.

Colnbrook Estate Halt railway station was a station on the now closed railway line between West Drayton and Staines West, on the western edge of London, England. It was opened on 1 May 1961 by British Railways to serve the Colnbrook Industrial Estate.The station closed to passengers on 29 March 1965 following the Beeching Report and has been completely demolished although the line through its site serves an aggregate depot and a fuel depot.

The Lakeside EfW is located in Colnbrook, Slough, and is the largest facility of its kind in England. It incinerates residual waste, and since 2010 it has also been authorised to incinerate low-level radioactive waste.

Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre is an immigration detention facility in Harmondsworth, London Borough of Hillingdon, near London Heathrow Airport run by Mitie. Harmondsworth, which neighbours the Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre, holds around 620 men.

Harmondsworth Great Barn (also known as Manor Farm Barn) is a medieval barn on the former Manor Farm in the village of Harmondsworth, in the London Borough of Hillingdon, England. It is north-west of fields and the A4 next to Heathrow Airport. Built in the early 15th century by Winchester College, it is the largest timber-framed building in England and is regarded as an outstanding example of medieval carpentry. It was described by the English poet John Betjeman as the "Cathedral of Middlesex". A similar though smaller barn is part of the Manor Farm complex in Ruislip. The barn was briefly in royal ownership but passed into the hands of three families who continued to use it for agricultural purposes until as late as the 1970s. It was subsequently owned by a property development company which redeveloped the farm complex. After the company went bankrupt in 2006, the barn was bought by property speculators betting on its compensation value if the nearby Heathrow Airport was expanded. The barn fell into disrepair and was closed to the public for all but one day a year. English Heritage stepped in, using a rare legal procedure to carry out repairs without the owner's consent, and eventually purchased the barn in January 2012. It is now open to the public from April to October on the second and fourth Sunday of each month under the management of the Friends of the Great Barn group.

Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre is located in Harmondsworth, London Borough of Hillingdon. Colnbrook, adjacent to Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre and London Heathrow Airport, houses only males. Colnbrook, which opened in August 2004, is built to Class B prison standards, making it one of the highest security immigration removal centres in the United Kingdom alongside Brook House. Colnbrook has 308 bed spaces.The building was officially opened by Des Browne, who was then Immigration Minister, in September 2004. The design of the centre is modelled on a high security, Category B criminal prison with wings running into a central area. Each cell is designed to hold two detainees. There is a toilet built into the cell.The centre is operated by Mitie who also operate Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre . Colnbrook detains people who are due for removal from the UK due to inadequate right to enter or to remain in the United Kingdom and this may include foreign-national prisoners who have completed their sentences in UK prisons and who are detained pending removal from the country. The centre offers detainees a range of activities whilst they are waiting for deportation including a library, multi-faith worship facilities, education provision, gym and sports activities, and a shop.

Longford Meeting House is a Grade II listed building, formerly used by the Society of Friends for worship, that stands on a site at the south side of Bath Road, Longford, a short distance to the east of the Duke of Northumberland's River.

Longford is a suburban village in the London borough of Hillingdon, England. It is immediately northwest of London Heathrow Airport, which is in the same borough. It is the westernmost settlement in Greater London, very close to the borders of both Berkshire and Surrey. It was formerly part of Harmondsworth by tithes, land tax, vestry and still by Church of England parish. As it has never had a church it can also be considered a hamlet. Until 1965 it was in the historic county of Middlesex. Longford is 16 miles (25.5 km) west of Charing Cross and within the M25 motorway which marks its western boundary with Colnbrook, Berkshire.

Ultra (Urban Light Transit) is a personal rapid transit podcar system developed by the British engineering company Ultra Global PRT (formerly Advanced Transport Systems).The only public system opened at Heathrow Airport in London in May 2011. It consists of 21 vehicles operating on a 3.9-kilometre (2.4 mi) route connecting Terminal 5 to its business passenger car park, just north of the airport.To reduce construction costs, Ultra largely uses off-the-shelf technologies, such as rubber tyres running on an open guideway. The approach has resulted in a system that Ultra believes to be economical: the company reports that the total cost (vehicles, infrastructure, and control systems) is between £3 million and £5 million per kilometre (0.62 miles) of guideway. By contrast, the Heathrow deployment cost £30 million for 3.8 kilometres (2.4 mi) of guideway.
