Justøy Chapel

Justøya or Justøy is an island in Lillesand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The 7.9-square-kilometre (3.1 sq mi) island lies just south of the town of Lillesand with the Skaggerak to the east and the Blindleia strait and the mainland to the west. The name comes from Old Norse word Jóstr. At 7.9 square kilometres (3.1 sq mi), Justøy is one of Agder county's largest islands. Justøya is connected to the mainland by the narrow 116-metre (381 ft) long Justøybrua bridge, built in 1949. There are about 360 residents on the island located in scattered settlements across the island. The old outport, Brekkestø, lies on the south side of the island. The outport is one of the remains from the time of sailing ships in the Skagerrak coast. The island is largely characterized by summer tourism. There are Montessori school, Justøy Chapel, cemetery, pension boarding house, campsite, and the summer shop in Brekkestø.In Nyberg, just north of Brekkestø, are the Festung Björkestraße ruins from World War II. The German fortifications and bunkers in Nyberg that were built by Norwegian prisoners of war.

Brekkestø is a small village on the southern coast of Norway. It is located on the island of Justøya within the municipality of Lillesand in Agder county, in the region known as Sørlandet. The village is mainly on Justøya, but there are houses and docks spread over several adjacent rocky islands. Many of the homes built around its compact harbor are white, wooden cottages with red tiled roofs, typical of the area. Brekkestø has a small general store, a filling station that provides fuel for boats only, and an ice cream kiosk open during the summer season. The village post office, located near the waterfront, was closed in 2002. Justøy Chapel is located just north of the village. The small village of Åkerøyhamn lies about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) to the southwest on the small, nearby island of Ågerøya. The nearest town is Lillesand, accessible by road via a network of bridges, and the closest international airport is Kjevik Airport near Kristiansand. Brekkestø is also reached by boat via the Blindleia strait, which passes nearby. Brekkestø has a reputation for being both rustic yet exclusive, and as such, it is a popular destination for summer vacationing. Brekkestø is often cited as an “idyllic pearl” of Southern Norway. Due to its popularity however, the small village is often overcrowded with Norwegian and German tourists during the peak summer months, while during the winter months, the village is virtually deserted.

Lillesand is the administrative centre of Lillesand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The town is located along the Skagerak coast, about 18 kilometres (11 mi) southwest of the town of Grimstad and about 25 kilometres (16 mi) northeast of the city of Kristiansand. The 5.08-square-kilometre (1,260-acre) town has a population (2019) of 7,966 and a population density of 1,567 inhabitants per square kilometre (4,060/sq mi). In Norway, Lillesand is considered a by which can be translated as either a "town" or "city" in English. Lillesand Church is located in the town and it is the seat of the Vest-Nedenes prosti (deanery). The European route E18 passes by the town, one of the main roads along southeastern Norway. The Blindleia strait is an inland waterway that leads from the Høvåg area northwards to the town of Lillesand.

Lillesand Town- and Maritime Museum (Norwegian: Lillesand by- og sjøfartsmuseum) is a museum of the cultural history of Lillesand. The museum is located in the town of Lillesand in the municipality of Lillesand in Agder county, Norway. The museum, established in 1970, was formerly a part of the AAKS (the Aust-Agder historical center), but starting in 2012 it was back under the control of Lillesand municipality. Anne Sophie Hoegh-Omdal has been employed as the museum director since 1 May 2010.The museum includes The farm in the town which is often called Carl Knudsen-gården (Carl Knudsen's farm) after the last owner's father. The last owner was Thyra Mercedes Knudsen, who died childless in 1963. She let Lillesand municipality have right of first refusal to the buildings on the property and it was converted into a museum. A separate department of the museum is a customs museum in the old customs house, located in the harbor nearby.

Lillesand Church (Norwegian: Lillesand kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Lillesand Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the town of Lillesand. It is one of the churches for the Lillesand parish which is part of the Vest-Nedenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden, Swiss chalet style church was built in a long church design in 1889 using plans drawn up by the architect Henrik Thrap-Meyer. The church seats about 490 people.

Åkerøyhamn is a village in Lillesand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located on the small island of Ågerøya, about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) southwest of the village of Brekkestø. Åkerøyhamn is only accessible by boat, with the Blindleia strait separating it from the mainland.

Saltholmen Lighthouse (Norwegian: Saltholmen fyrstasjon) is a lighthouse in Lillesand municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located on a small island off the coast about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) southeast of the town of Lillesand. There has been a lighthouse here since 1882. The island (and lighthouse) are named Saltholmen (lit. "Salty Islet"). This name comes from the salt extraction industry established by Hans Nielsen Hauge that once was located there. The lighthouse is only accessible by boat and the site is open, but the building is not open to the public.

Vestre Moland is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Møglestu where the Vestre Moland Church is located. The 103-square-kilometre (40 sq mi) municipality existed from 1838 until 1962 when it was merged into the municipality of Lillesand. Today, the area of Vestre Moland covers the northern part of the present-day municipality of Lillesand in Agder county.Vestre Moland included the island of Justøy and the area surrounding the ladested of Lillesand. The lake Østre Grimevann is in the northern part of Vestre Moland and the Blindleia inland waterway is located along the coast of Vestre Moland.

Vestre Moland Church (Norwegian: Vestre Moland kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Lillesand Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Møglestu, just outside the town of Lillesand. It is one of the churches for the Lillesand parish which is part of the Vest-Nedenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was built in a long church design around the year 1150 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect, but has since been converted into a cruciform design. The church seats about 350 people.

Moelva (old spelling: Maa Elv) is a river in the municipalities of Birkenes and Lillesand in Agder, Norway. It originates from a hill south of Tveide in Birkenes and empties into the Tingsakerfjord, east of the town of Lillesand. Large parts of the disused, former railway Lillesand-Flaksvand Line followed the river bank. An old stone bridge is still located by Helvetesfossen. It was restored by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration in 1993.

Lillesand (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈlɪ̂lːəsɑn] ) is municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Sørlandet. The administrative center of the municipality is the town of Lillesand. Some of the larger villages in Lillesand municipality include Åkerøyhamn, Brekkestø, Gamle Hellesund, Helldal, Høvåg, Ribe, Skottevik, Trøe, Ulvøysund, and Vesterhus. The 190-square-kilometre (73 sq mi) municipality is the 306th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Lillesand is the 100th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 11,419. The municipality's population density is 63.3 inhabitants per square kilometre (164/sq mi) and its population has increased by 13.8% over the previous 10-year period.

Blindleia is an 20-kilometre (12 mi) long inland waterway in the municipality of Lillesand in Agder county, Norway. The strait starts in the Gamle Hellesund or Ulvøysund areas in southern Høvåg in the southwest (near Kristiansand) and it continues northeast past the town of Lillesand. It is a salt water fjord passage that is protected from the open sea by an elongated archipelago of skerries and larger islands. There are several narrow gaps as part of the waterway, some of them only 10 metres (33 ft) wide. Navigation through the passage is detailed but supposedly not difficult—since there are no tides and very little current—with clearly marked buoys and a few lighthouses along the way.
