Bank of Slaughter

Slaughter is a town in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 997 at the 2010 U.S. census, down from 1,011 at the 2000 U.S. census. At the 2020 population estimates program, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated 882 people lived in the township. Slaughter is part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area.

Zachary is a city in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. It lies 16 miles (26 km) north of the city of Baton Rouge, and had a population of 14,960 at the 2010 census, up from 11,275 in 2000. At the 2020 census, Zachary's population increased to 19,316.

Zachary High School is a public high school located in Zachary, Louisiana, United States. It is a part of the Zachary Community School Board.

The Battle of Plains Store was fought on May 21, 1863, in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, during the campaign to capture Port Hudson in the American Civil War. Union troops advancing from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, clashed with 600 Confederates at a road junction. The initial Confederate force withdrew, but 400 more Confederates arrived from Port Hudson. Some of the Confederate reinforcement overran Union artillery and routed a Union regiment, but were unable to capture the guns. Union reinforcements advanced to the front, attacked part of the Confederate force and drove them from the field. The Confederates withdrew to Port Hudson, which was almost entirely surrounded by Union troops the next day. Port Hudson was under siege until the defenders surrendered on July 9.

Zachary Community School District (ZCSD), or Zachary Community School Board is a school district in Zachary, Louisiana, United States. In addition to Zachary it serves some unincorporated areas around it.The Zachary Community School System was founded in 2002 and was formed from schools that had been located in the East Baton Rouge Parish School District. The schools in this system are located within the City of Zachary; however, the school district boundaries include areas outside of the incorporated City of Zachary.Since 2005, the school system has been recognized by the Louisiana Department of Education as the top system in Louisiana.

KQXL-FM (106.5 MHz, "Q106.5") is an urban adult contemporary music formatted radio station serving the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, area. The Cumulus Media station operates with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 50 kW and is licensed to New Roads, Louisiana. Its studios are located downtown and the transmitter tower is located just north of Baton Rouge between the suburbs of Baker and Zachary.

Baton Rouge Raceway located in Baker, Louisiana is a 3/8 mile dirt oval race track. It is the home track of the O'Reilly SUPR racing series. In 2007 the hosted a combined race of World of Outlaws Late Model Series and O'Reilly SUPR Late Model Series, the event was won by Chris Madden.

Leland College was founded in 1870 as a college for blacks in New Orleans, Louisiana, but was open to all races. After its original buildings burned in 1923, it was relocated near Baker, Louisiana. Never accredited, the school closed in 1960 because of financial difficulties.The 20.9 acres (8.5 ha) area of the Baker campus, comprising four contributing properties and one non-contributing building, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 10, 1982.The college facilities had become derelict by the time of listing. In the early 21st century, only the ruins of the two dormitories can be seen faintly through trees. The frame classroom, the president's house, and the concrete classroom all disappeared at some time. Holbrook Chamberlain, a philanthropist from Brooklyn established the school. He bought the land and built the school buildings. John Elijah Ford served as the school’s president.

Baker Presbyterian Church is a historic church in Gothic Revival located at 3015 Groom Road in Baker, Louisiana. Built in 1905, the one-story clapboard church and the two-story crenelated bell tower are almost intact since the time of their construction.The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 1, 1990.

Baker High School is an accredited public high school in Baker, Louisiana. It is a part of the City of Baker School System.

The Baton Rouge Zoo is located 15 minutes north of downtown Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. The zoo is owned and operated by the Recreation and Park Commission of East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana (BREC), and is home to over 800 animals from around the world. The zoo was first accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) in 1977 — the first zoo in Louisiana to be accredited. However, the zoo lost its accreditation in March 2018 due to infrastructure issues and animal escapes.
