Valle del Cauca Department

Santiago de Cali (Spanish pronunciation: [sanˈtjaɣo ðe ˈkali]), or Cali, is the capital of the Valle del Cauca department, and the most populous city in southwest Colombia, with 2,227,642 residents according to the 2018 census. The city spans 560.3 km2 (216.3 sq mi) with 120.9 km2 (46.7 sq mi) of urban area, making Cali the second-largest city in the country by area and the third most populous after Bogotá and Medellín. As the only major Colombian city with access to the Pacific Coast, Cali is the main urban and economic center in the south of the country, and has one of Colombia's fastest-growing economies. The city was founded on 25 July 1536 by the Spanish explorer Sebastian Belalcazar. As a sporting center for Colombia, it was the host city for the 1971 Pan American Games. Cali also hosted the 1992 World Wrestling Championships, the 2013 edition of the World Games, the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2014, the World Youth Championships in Athletics in 2015 as well as the inaugural Junior Pan American Games in 2021 and the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships.

Colegio Tecnico Comercial Santa Maria Goretty is a technical school located in downtown Cali in Colombia. It started as a small primary school and has evolved into a technical high school with a specialisation in accounting. It takes its name from Maria Goretti (16 October 1890 – 6 July 1902), an Italian virgin-martyr of the Roman Catholic Church. Notable pupils have included athlete Valeria Cabezas.

The Iván Vassilev Todorov Arena (Spanish: Coliseo Mundialista Iván Vassilev Todorov) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The arena is part of the National Sports School campus. Construction began on 9 February 2013 and ended on 26 June. The arena was inaugurated ahead of the 2013 World Games, at which it hosted the korfball competition. At the 2021 Junior Pan American Games, the Iván Vassilev Todorov Arena was the site of the handball competition. It has also been used for basketball, volleyball and futsal matches.The Iván Vassilev Todorov Arena has a capacity of 1,600. It is named in honour of Bulgarian coach Iván Vassilev Todorov (d. 2019), grand master of the National Sports School and a key figure in the development of basketball in Colombia.

The Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero is a football stadium, also used for athletics, concerts, and rugby sevens, in Santiago de Cali, Colombia which is named to honor the poet Pascual Guerrero. The stadium and the sports complex that surrounds it are one of the finest and most modern sports complexes in Latin America, and led to references of Cali as the "Sports Capital of America". The "Pascual", as Cali's inhabitants usually call the stadium, replaced the now defunct Estadio Galilea which was located in the Versailles neighbourhood, where the first national athletics competition was held in 1928. The Pascual is still an important venue for domestic and international sporting events. With renovations made for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia and additional suits and sky boxes the stadium's capacity was reduced to 35,405 people. It is currently the home of América de Cali, Atlético, and Boca Juniors de Cali and was the home of Deportivo Cali until 2015 when they moved permanently into their new stadium.

Plaza de Toros de Cali or Arena Cañaveralejo (official name) is a bull ring in Cali, Colombia. It is used for bull fighting. Initial capacity was of 16,954 and it opened in 1957. Between 2019 and 2020 had update capacity of 14 368. It is located on Avenida Guadalupe, 3, Cali.

The Santiago de Cali University (USC) is a private university, subject to inspection and surveillance through the Ministry of National Education of Colombia. Located in southwestern Colombia, with a main office in the Pampalinda neighborhood, and another office in the Santa Rosa neighborhood in the center of the city, in Cali. In addition to its main headquarters, it has a branch in Palmira, Cauca Valley.

The Velódromo Alcides Nieto Patiño is a velodrome in Cali, Colombia. It was opened in 1971 and renovated in 2007. It is a regular location for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics and hosted the 2014 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. The venue hosts the 2023 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships on 23-27 August.

Coliseo El Pueblo (English: Coliseum of the People) is an indoor sporting arena located in Cali, Colombia. Opened in 1971 for the 1971 Pan American Games, the capacity of the arena was, before it became a 12,000-capacity all-seater, 18,000.It was designed by Colombian architect Pedro Enrique Richardson from the Richardson and Yusti studio (together with Libia Yusti). The calculation of structures was carried out by Harold Arzayuz.

Buenaventura Province was one of the provinces of Gran Colombia. It belonged to the Cauca Department which was created in 1824. In 1857 Cauca State was declared and the province was one of its provinces.

Hospital San Juan de Dios in Bogotá housed the National Institute of Immunology (Instituto Nacional de Inmunología) where important research on vaccines, notably the first synthetic vaccine against malaria, was conducted, The Instituto Meterno-infantil, Hospital La Hortúa (Psychiatric Wing) and the Santa Clara Clinic currently. It is one of the oldest serving hospitals in Latin America. It was founded in 1723 in times of the colony, yet its operation dates back the 1564 and was called Hospital de San Pedro and was established with the properties donated by Bishop Juan de los Barrios. It was later called Hospital de Jesús, José y María and finally Hospital San Juan de Dios. It initially consisted of three buildings of republican architectural style. The main building was modeled after the Pasteur Institute in France. and was finished in 1921. Later, a 1960 style high-rise building was constructed to house the hospital, and the original buildings were left abandoned.

The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Cali (Spanish: Catedral de San Pedro Apóstol) also called the Metropolitan Cathedral of Cali or simply the Cali Cathedral, is the mother church of the city of Cali, Colombia, and the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cali. It is recognized as Architectural Heritage of Cali, and was declared a National Monument of Colombia by resolution 002 of 12 March 1982.Its construction began the Baroque style, designed by the architect Antonio García. On 1 September 1772, parish priest José Rivera laid the first stone. Prisoners of local prisons were used for labor for construction. In 1802 the church was finished except for the tower. Due to political problems, construction was not completed until 1841, following neoclassical lines.

The Archdiocese of Cali (Latin: Archidioecesis Caliensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Colombia. Its episcopal see is located in the city of Cali.
