Valle del Cauca, or Cauca Valley (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈbaʎe ðel ˈkawka]), is a department in western Colombia abutting the Pacific Ocean. Its capital is Santiago de Cali. Other cities such as Buenaventura, Buga, Cartago, Palmira and Tuluá have great economical, political, social and cultural influence on the department's life. Valle del Cauca has the largest number of independent (i.e., nonmetropolitan) towns with over 100,000 inhabitants in the country, counting six within its borders. Buenaventura has the largest and busiest seaport in Colombia, moving about 8,500,000 tons of merchandise annually.

Santiago de Cali (Spanish pronunciation: [sanˈtjaɣo ðe ˈkali]), or Cali, is the capital of the Valle del Cauca department, and the most populous city in southwest Colombia, with 2,227,642 residents according to the 2018 census. The city spans 560.3 km2 (216.3 sq mi) with 120.9 km2 (46.7 sq mi) of urban area, making Cali the second-largest city in the country by area and the third most populous after Bogotá and Medellín. As the only major Colombian city with access to the Pacific Coast, Cali is the main urban and economic center in the south of the country, and has one of Colombia's fastest-growing economies. The city was founded on 25 July 1536 by the Spanish explorer Sebastian Belalcazar. As a sporting center for Colombia, it was the host city for the 1971 Pan American Games. Cali also hosted the 1992 World Wrestling Championships, the 2013 edition of the World Games, the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in 2014, the World Youth Championships in Athletics in 2015 as well as the inaugural Junior Pan American Games in 2021 and the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships.

The Iván Vassilev Todorov Arena (Spanish: Coliseo Mundialista Iván Vassilev Todorov) is a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The arena is part of the National Sports School campus. Construction began on 9 February 2013 and ended on 26 June. The arena was inaugurated ahead of the 2013 World Games, at which it hosted the korfball competition. At the 2021 Junior Pan American Games, the Iván Vassilev Todorov Arena was the site of the handball competition. It has also been used for basketball, volleyball and futsal matches.The Iván Vassilev Todorov Arena has a capacity of 1,600. It is named in honour of Bulgarian coach Iván Vassilev Todorov (d. 2019), grand master of the National Sports School and a key figure in the development of basketball in Colombia.

The Cali Explosion occurred on August 7, 1956, in downtown Cali, Colombia. It was caused by the explosion of seven army ammunition trucks loaded with 1053 boxes of dynamite, which were parked in Cali overnight. In 1956, the city of Cali had around 400,000 inhabitants. More than 1,300 died from the explosion, and another 4,000 were wounded. Some estimate go as high as 4000 deaths and 12000 injured.

The Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Cali (Spanish: Catedral de San Pedro Apóstol) also called the Metropolitan Cathedral of Cali or simply the Cali Cathedral, is the mother church of the city of Cali, Colombia, and the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cali. It is recognized as Architectural Heritage of Cali, and was declared a National Monument of Colombia by resolution 002 of 12 March 1982.Its construction began the Baroque style, designed by the architect Antonio García. On 1 September 1772, parish priest José Rivera laid the first stone. Prisoners of local prisons were used for labor for construction. In 1802 the church was finished except for the tower. Due to political problems, construction was not completed until 1841, following neoclassical lines.

The Archdiocese of Cali (Latin: Archidioecesis Caliensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or archdiocese of the Catholic Church in Colombia. Its episcopal see is located in the city of Cali.

Buenaventura Province was one of the provinces of Gran Colombia. It belonged to the Cauca Department which was created in 1824. In 1857 Cauca State was declared and the province was one of its provinces.

Hospital San Juan de Dios in Bogotá housed the National Institute of Immunology (Instituto Nacional de Inmunología) where important research on vaccines, notably the first synthetic vaccine against malaria, was conducted, The Instituto Meterno-infantil, Hospital La Hortúa (Psychiatric Wing) and the Santa Clara Clinic currently. It is one of the oldest serving hospitals in Latin America. It was founded in 1723 in times of the colony, yet its operation dates back the 1564 and was called Hospital de San Pedro and was established with the properties donated by Bishop Juan de los Barrios. It was later called Hospital de Jesús, José y María and finally Hospital San Juan de Dios. It initially consisted of three buildings of republican architectural style. The main building was modeled after the Pasteur Institute in France. and was finished in 1921. Later, a 1960 style high-rise building was constructed to house the hospital, and the original buildings were left abandoned.

The Calima Gold Museum is an archaeological museum dedicated to the Calima culture located in the historic center of Santiago de Cali, Colombia. The Calima Gold Museum was the ninth museum created by the Bank of the Republic of Colombia in order to show the artistic and cultural expressions of the pre-Hispanic populations. It is also one of the Bank's six gold museums located throughout Colombia, their main one being the Gold Museum in Bogotá. The museum contains 615 pre-Hispanic objects of gold, ceramic, stone, wood, shell, and other materials created by the Llama, Yotoco and Sonso societies, which historically lived in the region. Archeological pieces created by a fourth society known as the Malagana can be found in the Gold Museum in Bogotá. These pieces were not included in this museum due to storage limitations. Admission to the one room museum is free for all visitors and it is open from Tuesday to Saturday. A guided tour option is available on request. The museum is located inside the Bank of the Republic building.

Torre de Cali ("Cali Tower") is a 44-story skyscraper in the northern part of Cali, Colombia. It lies with the Versalles district on the left bank of the Cali River. With 183 m it is the tallest building in Cali and among the tallest in Colombia. Due to its dominance of the Cali skyline it has become a landmark building of the city.

The Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerrero is a football stadium, also used for athletics, concerts, and rugby sevens, in Santiago de Cali, Colombia which is named to honor the poet Pascual Guerrero. The stadium and the sports complex that surrounds it are one of the finest and most modern sports complexes in Latin America, and led to references of Cali as the "Sports Capital of America". The "Pascual", as Cali's inhabitants usually call the stadium, replaced the now defunct Estadio Galilea which was located in the Versailles neighbourhood, where the first national athletics competition was held in 1928. The Pascual is still an important venue for domestic and international sporting events. With renovations made for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia and additional suits and sky boxes the stadium's capacity was reduced to 35,405 people. It is currently the home of América de Cali, Atlético, and Boca Juniors de Cali and was the home of Deportivo Cali until 2015 when they moved permanently into their new stadium.

La Tertulia Museum, formerly known as the Museum of Modern Art La Tertulia, is an art museum in Cali, Colombia. It has an important collection of American and especially Colombian art. The museum consists of three buildings: a main gallery with 300 works by national and international artists and an art workshop for children; an arthouse theater known as the Cinemateca; and a building for printing and restoration workshops.The Cinemateca frequently hosts passing film festivals, such as EuroCine.
